Bra hotell til en billig penge. God buffet og relativt kort vei til sentrum av Edinburgh. Er fornøyd!

Dette er ikke ett hotell men studenthybler som leier ut rom til turister i sommersesongen. Hyblene ligger fordelt på en rekke bygg, alle minst et par minutters gange fra resepsjonen. Hyblene er beregnet på en person slik at når de møbleres som et dobbeltrom blir meget trange. Det er meget lytt og litt «festligheter» kan fort forstyrre nattesøvnen. «Hotellet» […] er ikke sentralt. Det tar ca 20 minutter med buss til Edinburgh . Å gå til nærmeste bussholdeplassen tar ca 6 -10 minutter. Studentkafeteriaen hvor en kan få kjøpt mat og drikke stenger klokken 20.00. Rundt «hotellet» finnes ingen ting så for å få mat etter dette er den nærmeste restauranten , en liten utmerket China restaurant, tyve minutters spasertur borte . Ønsker en større utvalg må en til sentrum. Frokosten som serveres i kafeteriaen , inkludert i prisen , er noe av det beste og innholdsrikeste som kan serveres. Der er ikke noe hotell som kan konkurrere med den. Det som trekker ned er den må inntas i kø med vanskeligheten med å finne et sted å sitte etter man har forsynt seg. Bargain rooms with ok facilities. (Univiersity campus) The service was extremely good. No deposit safe on the rooms. Only limited numbers in the reception. It's an ok place to stay if you're not going to spend a whole lot of time in the room.

I've stayed here several times during Festival season. The only problem I've encountered is of my own making -- I tend to go to bed pretty early, so that when half the guests decide to say goodnight under my window it can be a problem. We stayed there for two days, it is a bit far from Royal Mile, however it is a very short bus ride to City Centre. The accomodations where very clean, however the price is a bit expensive for staying in a dorm. The Breakfast is great, cannot ask for more. Good location for the money if you don't mind walking about 20 minutes. Very close to Arthur's Peak which is gorgeous and one of the highlights of my visit :). Negatives: Quite uncomfortable mattress. A bit noisy (not a big deal for me, I brought earplugs), no TV in room if you care about that (I didn't, I wasn't in Edinburgh to watch TV), shared bathroom […] and toilet, in hall. 5 euros per day for internet. Positives: BREAKFAST - fantastic. Comfortable bathtub/shower. Clean room/bathroom. I enjoyed the college atmosphere, brought back good memories of my own college dorm days. I had a single standard at Baird´s and it was well worth money. Room was clean and nice but wasn´t sound-proof at all, so remember to take earplugs with you. Breakfast was excellent and location was great next to Holyrood Park, not too far from downtown either. Most off all I appreciated the friendly atmosphere on campus. Honestly we didnt expect to find such a nice place. Close to the center, not expensive, clean, nice breakfast, nice surroundings.... the perfect stay

The staff was pleasant, the free breakfast great and filling and the rooms and shared baths always neat and tidy. The rooms were a bit cold, and the mattresses thin, but it is a typical university accomodation with amazing proximity to Holyrood park. Great for walks and runs and safe, tucked away from the noise and crowds of downtown. The walk was […] 10-15 minutes to downtown and the buses 2 minutes walk from the facility. This is no hotel, but nicer, cleaner and safer than B&Bs and a wonderful cost effective bet for longer stays. Les mer

As a regular visitor to Edinburgh and faced with the usual struggle for a hotel during the Festival, I was was very pleasantly suprised at my stay at Pollock Halls. Simple clean rooms, fantastic breakfast and considerably cheaper than my usual 4* Hotels. I would not hesiatet to stay again!

A very clean and comfortable hotel with a good breakfast buffet. Not far from city center. A good deal fo the price.

Best deal for your money and great breakfast. A bit far from the action of the Edinburgh Festival and mattresses could be updated, but overall a very good place to stay.

If you want a hotel, you're in the wrong place. What you get for the money is quite good - breakfast is fantastic, very close to the city by bus, rooms clean and secure, view of Arthur's Seat is very nice.

For the price, especially during the fringe festival, I couldn't be happier. Room was very clean, front desk staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, and it was a short walk (less than 1 mile) to the city centre, and right on a major bus route. Grounds were pleasantly landscaped, although you did get noise from students wandering around talking. Nearby […] was a pool (closed for renovation; not sure when it will be open), a few pubs, and Engine Shed, a cafe that helps people with learning disabilities. Les mer

Great! Clean, tidy, good location, great breakfast.

This place is quite a gigantic operation, and efficiently run too. The room was quite modern and comfortable, and while it was a 20 min walk to the Royal Mile, it was convenient for hiking up Arthur's Seat. Breakfast is quite a spread. Overall a very affordable and comfortable (if slightly antiseptic) stay. I'd go back there again if I'm in town.

+ pollock was neatly maintained., really helpfull reception for tourist info...(but beware it could b a long queue) - if u have a car its better to travel to railway station or other tourist places... i didnt knw the room type when i booked, its me,my husband and my kid who is just 2.4yrs... they gave us two single beds.. which was really difficult […] for us.. when asked @recption they asked us to come in the mornin.. but im a tourist i cant wait @reception and shift my things and stay @hotel for a day.... it was sad... i wrote to them 2 times while i left from hotel but no one was responsible to answer my request. room was small. Stayed two nights in July 11, staff, food, room all great, easy walking distance to city centre and to main tourist sites. Nights very noisy! Being University Halls of Residency utilising their amenities in the form of Hotel accommodation to attract the general general public for financial reasons a greater control should be exerted on the younger element […] who have no consideration for other o/night guests, I had to recourse to request the security staff to intervene at 3:00 AM !! Exceptionally well priced room option in the City of Edinburgh. Room clean, warm and basic but very good value. 30 minute walk back to Princess street but very straightforward. I will use this venue again. Support staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast included in room rate offered was exceptional.

I was pretty satisfied with my stay at Pollock Halls. The rooms are spartan (they are old dormitories) but very clean and not ramshackle. Unless you book a room with an ensuite bathroom, you have to share toilet/shower facilities with other rooms in the hall, but I did not find this to be a problem at all. The bathrooms are very clean and well-stocked […] and I never had to wait in a line to use one. The location of Pollock Halls is ideal for those looking to explore Holyroode Park and climb Arthur's Seat, but a bit out-of-the-way to be walking distance other attractions. However, there are several convenient bus stops nearby, including at least 3 bus lines that will take you to Waverley Station or Haymarket, where you can catch the Airlink bus to the airport, should you need to. My only gripe is that the beds are quite uncomfortable - the old dorm-style, 6-inch-thick mattress on metal springs. I was able to endure this, being on a budget, but if you're looking for more comfort or have a bad back, you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, Pollock Halls was a great bargain, offering nearly the price of a hostel but with the privacy and quiet of a hotel AND a free breakfast! Les mer

Pollock Halls is quite a wonderful budget stay. The rooms are very affordable, clean and tidy. One improvement would be the mattress-- it was somewhat thin and hard. The kitchenettes are clean and contain microwaves and small fridges. There are no cookers and no cutlery but this if manageable If you bring your own and buy accordingly. The breakfast […] was outstanding and helped save money. Everything was delicious and they offered veggie, halal, non dairy and glutenfree options to help those with nutritional needs. The neighbourhood is quiet with a phenomenal view/gardens but might be a bit quiet for those seeking the nightlife. However, Buses run to downtown/back frequently. Les mer

What an absolute Gem. The efficiency of check in was first class as was the efficiency and quality of the Accomodation and food. All the Staff are so friendly and helpful from the Check in, Restuarant and Bar staff and the Security Guards. House keeping kept the room spotless and well stocked with Tea/Coffee etc. The evening Bar Snacks were first class […] if you did not wish to dine in the main restaurant, which we didn't as we were only around for one evening at meal time and just wanted a snack but had an excellent Haggis, Tatties and Neeps main course in the Bar. Even though there was 1200 Touch Rugby players staying at the same time, we did not wait even one minute to get breakfast. The security on site is reassuring with ample car parking in a secure environment. As an ex Hotellier I was well impresed, I attended with a colleague for the National Armed Forces weekend and we had two single ensuite rooms. No TV in the rooms but hey, that was not a problem as there is a communal TV room in each block. (It would be nice to have a TV in the room though). I have already earmarked Edinburgh First to return to with my wife to see the sights in and around Edinburgh next year. Les mer

Having stayed in uni halls of residence before, I felt quite confident this would be a great choice, and we weren't disappointed. Reception staff were friendly, the room was clean and had everything we wanted and the breakfast was phenomenal. The gardens were beautiful too. We caught the bus at the top of the street for Murrayfield (very convenient […] for concerts or rugby) and the next day enjoyed the walk down to Princes Street. Highly recommended. Les mer

It's a student dorm room so not luxurious, but clean & comfortable enough. Excellent breakfast. Within walking distance of the city center. Recommended.

The location is not as convenient as a lot of other choices in Edinburgh but the good price paid for a clean room with ensuite bath and two twin beds made it a great choice. Throw in the buffet style free breakfast and you have a winner. The only complaint I really have was the drilling and hammering that started around 9:00 a.m. on the Sunday morning […] we were there. This was an en suite room at Edinburgh University for students. Adequate for the price and have no complaints. Price included breakfast (in student canteen so you could eat as much as you wanted in theory). Poss bit overpriced but it was clean and I had a great sleep so no complaints overall

We enjoyed wlaking to the center as walking to the top of Arthurs heath. We appriziated more a quiet and peacful place after a day of walking in the maincity. But haggis for breakfast, is not suitable for beginners : )

I stayed a couple of nights in "Chancellors Court", Pollock Halls when collecting my son from University. My room was spacious and comfortable with stunning views of Arthur's Seat and the attractively landscaped grounds. The breakfast is absolutely brilliant, there is so much food, you probably won't be hungry for lunch, though it is a bit of a fight to wade your way through the hundreds of people. The housekeeping is high quality, maintenance of the building is perfect. The price was reasonable for Edinburgh Festival times. I stayed here during the Edinburgh Tattoo, location is excellent, Arthurs seat just behind uni, 20-30 min walk to Royal Mile or you could bus into the town. Exceptional quality of breakfast provided, buffet style, everything you could think of. Only downside is that the walls of the room are very thin, you can hear everything, and I mean everything! […] I only wanted somewhere to sleep so that I could explore Edinburgh so for me it was perfect, I would definately stay here again. This was a 2 star rating so don't have high expectations and then you won't be dissapointed just don't forget your earplugs. Les mer

Our stay at the First Edinburgh Hotel was very pleasant. We enjoyed the university location. The cafeteria buffet was plentiful, varied, and clean. We stayed in the Masson House Building. It was undergoing construction and the elevator was out of order. Our room was on the 3rd floor, which made it inconvenient getting the luggage up the stairs. This […] was the only negative point. This was the first time we stayed in a college dorm, and it was a wonderful experience. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The reception crew were knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and friendly. The buffet breakfast, which was included in the price, was not to be believed in its array of food choices. The only slightly negative comment I […] have is that is is about a mile and a half from the center of the city. We walked it several times, and it was probably a good thing with all the food we ate! This is the worst student accommodation you could get. I would definitely not recommend it. I paid well over the odds per night for my stay here. The toilet was dirty, the shower hardly worked, the beds are ucomfortable and have plastic sheets on, my room was dusty. Very poor standard.

We enjoyed our stay although it was the only place in our travels through Scotland and Ireland where we were changed a significant fee for wi fi and it didn't even work in the rooms. The location was very convenient but it is important to remember you are staying in dorm rooms which unfortunately smelled like smoke.
