Just stayed 1 night. Very comfortable rooms. Really close to nice restaurants and a few shops and a beautiful church as well as Bicester villiage for some retail therapy.

lovely building and well placed in town near all facilities new and old;attentive staff at all times,good service and great food and great portions.Would Jdefinately stay again and recomend to others.

We booked two nights at this hotel on a room only basis for a weekend break. We could not fault the hotel feeling it offered excellent value for the rate we obtained it at. Our room was clean, well stocked with tea, coffee, toiletries and well presented. We had a few drinks in the bar, prices much the same as other hotels we have stayed in and the bar […] staff were very helpful. There are lots of bars, pubs and restaurants offering varied cuisine nearby, some lierally less than 50 metres. The hotel carpark at the rear is small but free, an added bonus. There is ample car parking at the front, council owned and moderately priced. The only criticism is that we followed a family booking in who had not pre booked and with only one receptionist had to wait longer than we thought necessary without apologies. We decided to visit the bar and tried later with more success. The hotel is ideally situated to visit lots of sites and places in this part of the Cotswolds and we would deinitely return here if we are in the area again. Les mer

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Its cheap but for a reason! There was a cockroach in my room, when i told the repectionist about this she was very rube and told me that the cleaner had showed her the cockroack and that i was mistaken it for a wood insect! The cleaner throw it out the window so how could she of shown it to her. She lied to […] my face. I will never use this Hotel again and will tell everyone else i know not to use it. My room was so cold, I had to wear my hat to sleep. There was no hot water in the sink. The shower was no weak it just dribbled out. This hotel was not cheap and I expected more.

The hotel itself was past its prime. The furniture in the room had seen better days. The outlets were malfunctioning and the bathroom was moldy. The bed itself was comfortable but situated over the parking lot it was very noisy. At check-in we ran into problems with the staff and never quite got past them. We had to repeatedly ask for ice. And twice […] was told to get it ourselves. In quote "We had a bucket in our room didn't we? Just go into the bar and help yourself!" Hardly our type of hotel. A big disappointment. We had at one time lived in Banbury and frequented the bar in the hotel. What a difference 20 years make. Les mer

we enjoyed our stay at Mercure Whately Hall as the location was excellent for the town, pubs, restaurants, cinema were all within 5mins walk and as it was close to main roads it was easy to get around in the car too. The only issue we had was the church bells which were just across the road started to ring at 8.45am when we would have liked a lie in […] especially as check out is not until 12!! Les mer

Very good hotel. Good value. Excellent meals. Easy for access to Oxford, fast train service, without paying Oxford prices. Highly recommended.

Our break was for one night only but wouldn't hesitate to stay for longer at this hotel. Hotel frontage is beautiful and the hotel entrance is definately 'old school' and in the winter would guess its very welcoming indeed with the fire. We stopped in the old part of the hotel which is definately recommended - original beams, large rooms, bed extremely […] comfy which was a pleasent surprise and the bathroom clean & modern. The reviews i read regarding the heat within the rooms is correct so i opened all the windows on arrival and the problem disappeared (temp was approx. 30c). Overall the hotel was clean, reasonably priced and great location for the town centre. Must recommend the indian restaurant approx 200yds from hotel - one of the best i've had. Les mer

I needed a place to break a journey from Aylesbury to the north. I was looking for something good value and reasonably comfortable. I booked the Whately Hall and was very satisfied. The hotel stands proudly, dominating horse fair (the main drag). The car park is entered thorugh a very narrow entrance, easily missed. Look for the gap between the odeon […] cinema and the hotel. Reception area is wood panelled and opulent. The grand facade is backed by a rather ugly 60s extention where most of the rooms are located. Mine looked out over the gable wall of the adjacent cinema. The room was fine, a little tight for the large bed. Bathroom and room were very clean and neat. generally no issues and very good value of course as you would expect booking with hotels.com Les mer

There was a long check in, no air con in the rooms, one set of towels for a double room, and limited parking, apart from that it is centrally located but be warned unless you want to be blasted with church bells at 9am on Sunday mornings don't stay at the front of the hotel!!

Banbury was a lot better than we thought it would be! The Hotel was good, free covered carpark, large garden and even our room at the front was quiet - which was good because the lack of air-conditioning meant we had to keep the window open all night!!

My husband and I returned to the Whately Hall for the second time this year. This time we were lucky to be put into the the old original building. The room was very big and had lots of original features including a fireplace. Being in the old building did mean a little more noise from the town, especially as we needed to have the windows open to keep […] the room cool.The hotel had also provided a fan. Les mer

We have stayed at this hotel on quite a few occasions as we have relatives in Banbury but have always had a room in the new annex, on this occasion we were given a room in the old & original part of the hotel. Whilst the room was large, clean and comfortable the floor boards creaked with every step taken. Our room, number 23 was near the service door […] so this meant that on both Saturday & Sunday morning the staff were using the door quite a lot from 6:30 onwards. They seem to make no attempt to keep voices low so as not to disturb the guests. Quite a lot of noise coming from the service area itself when the door was propped open permanently. Had to just leave the key at reception upon check out as there was a queue of four guests and only one person manning the desk. Les mer
