20 minutes walk fro Pisa station as well as the leaning tower. Good service, old time set up. Nice location for shopping, restaurants and river.

Overall, I had a very positive experience in this hotel. For the inexpensive price, I couldn't ask for better.

If you like your hotels to have a bit of character in preference to a standard modern hotel 'box', then you'll like this. We were travelling by train doing a Pisa-Florence-Siena-Pisa circuit and were pleased to find hotels in all three cities within 10-15 mins walk of the train station. This hotel is pretty much equidistant between the station in one […] direction and the leaning tower (etc.) in the other. Excellent location therefore, and reputedly the best ice cream place in Pisa just round the corner! The room was a little tatty/in need of decoration as others have noted, with a nighttime choice of noisy air-con or stifling heat. Communal areas characterful and grand, and the roof terrace was lovely. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, and the staff both at reception and at breakfast were wonderfully helpful in all instances. It's not the lap of luxury, but we would certainly recommend and would stay again if visiting Pisa. Les mer

This place is nice and quirky.

This was our first night in Italy and it was one of our favorites. The hotel was right on the Arno, in a very historic section. The building dates to the 1400's and has been run by the same family since the 1800's.

This hotel is furnished in the most delightful way with many pieces of beautiful period furniture and walls decorated with pictures and photographs from the late 19th and early 20th century .The lounges are so inviting, as are the bedrooms, all portraying a feeling of bygone times and old world elegance. It was a great location on the river. We had coffees on the terrace on the top floor and it was a really nice. The room felt small and dingy compared with the rest of the hotel. This was probably partly due to how nice the rest of the hotel was. Staff were very friendly and it was a nice stay.

Conveniently located only minutes away from both Pisa airport and the Leaning tower. Customer service was also a plus and as others have said this hotel has a strong character and is really good value for money (breakfast was a delight). Be aware though that noise can be a problem, particularly if you're staying during a weekend.

Bring your Tylenol PM if you stay here. It was very noisy, at least on the side of the hotel we stayed on. I think there must be a bar next door. This hotel was walking distance to everything we wanted to do in the city. About a 15 - 20 minute walk to train station. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was very nice. The most charming hotel stay in our whole trip. The atmosphere and history of the hotel was fantastic, as was the breakfast menu. The staff were more than helpful with any queries we had and we enjoyed our time there and wish we could have stayed longer.

A beautiful, elegant old hotel reminiscent of the era of 'Grand Tours', i began to wish i packed a trunk!

The staff were at all times very helpful and this hotel provides a form of breakfast for early fliers at 4:30 am - more than most. The hotel was once a Grand Tour hotel but now has faded. The standard rooms lack double glazing, comfortable seats, the doors are thin and the decor sparse. The common areas are pleasant - the lobby and the roof terrace. The […] central position of the hotel does make it prone to noise - it's very close to the university and the social hub of Pisa, but the breakfast was fine (except they did once serve instant coffee which was disgusting) and the faded elegance is pleasing. Do take earplugs! You can hire bikes at a reasonable rate although the itineraries promised on the leaflet in the room were non-existent. A kind word for the night porter: the taxi company were having problems and he drove us to the airport himself. Thank you. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again. Les mer

The Royal Victoria Hotel in Pisa is a delightful hotel to stay for a mini break. Don't expect 21st century mod cons just lovely old worlde Victorian charm with plenty of interesting photographs and furniture and a fantastic service from all helpful and polite staff. Brilliant location, right on the river and close to bars, restaurants, tower...etc

Good breakfast .Lots of types of food are provided Nice staffs.But the beds are easily to collaspe.

What a great hotel - elegant and cool at the same time. Perfect location, good for watching noisy italians out for their evening walk and ice-cream guzzling! The staff were really helpful and it was great to take a glass of wine and plate of delicious nibbles up onto the roof terrace. Will be back!

The location is perfect, overlooking the Arno River, steps away from the main street, and within walking distance of the Pisa Centrale train station. The hotel has an old style grandeur and the room was the largest of any European hotel that we've stayed in. It is a fairly old building which adds to the experience however it is not completely sound […] proofed and you can hear muffled noise from other guests. After checking in, we spent time exploring the different areas on each floor, as well as the roof top terrace. Each day drinks were available in the main foyer for a nominal price and you could have them sent up to the terrace to watch the sunset. Breakfast was included with our room and it was excellent - breads, cheeses, cold meats, fruit, yoghurt, cookies, juices, and tea or coffee. We will definitely return to this hotel for our next trip to Pisa. Les mer

This Hotel has an older feel to it, with decor which is quite rustic, however i dont mind staying somewhere like this because of the experience which comes with a more traditional type hotel as opposed to a chain. 5 minutes walk to the leaning tower and situated right on the river its location was very handy too. staff were more than happy to assist […] and spoke english fluently. A well located hotel close to all amneties and the leaning tower etc. The worst hotel we've stayed in during our travels through Europe. One dirty bathroom shared between 2 floors! Definitely did not fulfill the star grading accredited to it. Extremely basic and noisy room dt the proximity to the student piazza

This is a decent quality tourist hotel conveniently situated halfway between the train station and the cathedral / leaning tower, on the north bank of the Arno. We booked a standard room so did not have a view of the river but felt we got fair value for money. There was no noise problem - helped perhaps because we were at the rear of the hotel. There […] is a pleasant roof terrace on the 4th floor. The public rooms and staircases are quite grand. The breakfast was fine - not a vast choice but adequate - and the serving staff were excellent, particularly bearing in mind that the hotel seemed to be quite full. The hotel is close to Pisa University so there were lots of students around, leading to a lively atmosphere and plenty of cheap eating places. Les mer

We were greeted by exceptionally helpful staff - their command of English was excellent. The hotel is an elegant celebration of Italian Art Deco - if perhaps a little spooky too with portraits adorning the wall of management long since gone. You expect Bette Davis to grace their staircase at at moment. The twin room was clean, with a large bathroom […] overlooking the river Arno. The shower was very powerful. Breakfast was self service and had probably the best selection of food I'd seen available for a hotel in this price range. In the evening there's a rooftop garden - I imagine during the height of summer this is a lovely place to relax with a glass of wine. Overall, I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel as my experience was extremely pleasant - I would certainly reconsider booking should I return to Pisa. Les mer

The hotel is located on a very busy street. At night we had roving gangs of youth talking and partying under our window. It's very noisy. One of the hotel receptionists clearly did not go out of her way to be welcoming or helpful, while another hotel receptionist was very considerate. An experience with a difference - rather noisy room and in need of redecorating but perfectly adequate for a brief stay. Very convenient to walk to and from train station for link to airport, and can walk to main tourist sites. Breakfast fine and general decor and atmosphere great. This is such a truly charming hotel. Yes, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles (which I have stayed in also), and is basic but comfortable. However it's authentic features shine through even in the basic rooms which had terracotta tiles and frescoed ceiling, shutters,etc I hope you get the picture. It's central and convenient for all the main […] sights. The downside...well it was rather noisy outside at night. The hotel is unable to do much about that without sound proofing the windows... but then the charm is lost. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights.. If you're a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. Maybe rooms in different locations within the hotel could have been better. I can't say though. Breakfast was lovely. Beautiful hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Good service was provided. This hotel is not just a run of the mill 4 star city hotel. It will only be appreciated by people who value old heritage and architecture

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for a one night stay in Pisa. Two things about the hotel really stand out. First, the service is great, especially for Italy (no offence, Italian readers). Staff were genuinely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The option of late check-out, which we used, was also a nice touch. Secondly, […] the hotel building itself is charming and unusual. As other reviewers have noted, it's not the most modern or best maintained hotel - expect to find some broken tiles and solid but dated furniture. Don't expect a fridge, mini-bar, safety deposit box or wifi in the room. But - and for me it was a big but - the rooms and the hotel had real character. They were filled with period decor and finishing; there were lots of pictures documenting the history of the hotel and it was interesting to explore. For such a short stay, I had no problem forgoing the modern amenities for a memorable hotel. Equipped but characterless hotels are ten-a-penny; this type isn't. Also, our room was spacious and cool and overlooked the river. A final plus is the location. It's moments away from Garibaldi Plaza, where people hang out with a beer and people watch, as well as the main shopping and eating street. ATM, post office etc. It's also a pleasant 15 minute walk to the Tower. To conclude, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to those on a similar visit, with the caveat on amenities above. Les mer

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Royal Victoria. The staff were more than helpful with any queries or requests that I had. The hotel itself is charming, with a traditional quality that reflects the historic feel of Italy . Breakfasts were well presented, served by courteous staff . The location is on the river front, for a short walk in one direction […] to the tower, or cross the bridge for easy access to all of the shops, and some less touristy, more authentic restaurants. Central, affordable, historic - this hotel is a great place to stay in Pisa for the casual and discerning traveler. Our room was small but well appointed, with tiny en-suite shower and powerful AC. The mattresses were old, saggy, and desperately in need of replacement, but that was truly the only quibble. The "continental" breakfast the morning after […] was huge, fresh, and gorgeous - you could do a lot of sightseeing on a belly full of their fresh plums, cherries, yogurt, hot sweet rolls, nutella, fruit juices, cereal, salami, cheeses, and hot coffee. Although we have to take a bus from the airport to the train station and walk to the hotel but the tiredness was dismiss when entered the hotel. It so calm place. The room was so convenience, nice and clean. Having a nice small garden at the 4th floor where we can relax and taking a fresh air. This hotel served breakfast with a lot choice of food and […] with nice environment. Having a room where an old stuff like typewriter, telephone, table & chair, piano, plate and other thing were located near the room for breakfast. This hotel was a great stay! It's between the train station and the leaning tower both 5-10 minute walk. The only complaint we had was that it was a shared bathroom/showers. The breakfast we had in the morning was really good. Would definately recommend.

Lovely old building, very spacious, an experience in itself just to walk around the hotel. Beautiful, and full of history.

I found the staff very indifferent on arrival when others who arrived after me were able to go straight to their rooms but I was unale to go to my room until 2.30pm. The room was tiny, the bed uncomfortable and the noise outside all night unbearable. One of the gents upstairs opened his window and threw a bottle out at the kids in the alleyway below […] at 2.30am in the morning. Workmen began working at 7am the following morning in the same alleyway. The breakfast however was lovely. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Les mer

Though my room was quite small and faced an alley (for a few more euros I could have had a larger one and a better view), it was quite acceptable and good value for the price. The staff were very helpful and recommended a fabulous restaurant for dinner. One could buy wine and snacks for a very reasonable price and take them up to the beautiful roof […] garden in the evening. Hotel did not have the parking the advertised. We stayed at this hotel specifically because they had parking. When we arrived it was not available because of fashion show. Got our luggage and went to another hotel that had parking and a smile at the front desk. The money didn't matter at this point.

Reception desk very helpful and friendly. Nice location near shopping. Not across from RR station. A little far to walk with suitcases. They could give better directions for reaching the hotel. Lobby and breakfast room nicely furnished--looks like a first class hotel. Our room not up to our other hotel standards. Need better lighting by the beds. Furniture […] was like from a second hand store. We had to share a bathroom. I paid just as much at other hotels with nicer room and my own bath.I would recommend it, if the room was nicer. We were upgraded to a better room and there was a cot already in the room so we did not have to carry our own up to the room which was nice after a long day traveling.

Very spooky hotel with old pictures everywhere and old fashioned rooms. The rooms were basic but not small. Staff were friendly. Great location, walking distance to Leaning Tower.

We only stayed one night for the beginning of our travels through Tuscany. The staff were very helpful, the location excellent and the rooms very clean. The best thing about this hotel is that it oozes of history...from the quirky unique rooms, to the antique furnishings and art work on the walls and ceilings. I would surely stay there again.

This hotel was full of character and history, and was a lovely base for our holiday. It was like stepping back in time and very relaxing. The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful, the beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and you could have as much as you wanted. We sat on the pretty roof terrace […] in the evenings, where you could have drinks brought up to you. The price was quite cheap too for a major tourist city, so this was excellent value for money.
