Nothing fancy, just a regular budget hotel a bit out of city center. We found it good value for money and when it wasn't raining, we could walk to city center or bay area.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay after seeing a show at Motorpoint. It is convienately situated to town and Cardiff bay. It is a short walik to the town . It was great to be able to leave our car the following day after we checked out to go shopping for a few hours. The hotel staff were friendly and our room was lovely, especially the Ensuite.

Comfortable hotel, more than ample parking. Hotel is further than the city centre than expected or described. if you drive to the city centre, be aware that parking in Cardiff is tight and at a premium.

recent overnight stay. staff very helpful, hotel very clean, bit of TLC needed - broken lights overbed, + beds noisy, location not good if no car. stayed here with my 2 daughters, + encountered no probs.

Great hotel, staff were polite and helpful, cleanliness and presentation excellent! Five minute walk to the shopping centre, £5 taxi back from town! All round great hotel, will definitely be using again!

MCC Hotel is not a bad hotel in itself but advertised with memory foam beds was a big plus and a deciding factor in staying there.We do like our comfort so we were shocked to find we had an old fashioned (but clean) spring mattress with the old fashioned buttons which press into your back! There was only one mug on the tray and we had to ask for another […] which were not washed after we used them. I don't we would stay there again. Les mer

Not on the SatNav. Had I known I would have done the necessary research on geography but instead I educated myself for 40 minutes on the back streets of Cardiff! No restaurant...please make this more clear when making reservations. The Papa Jo's Pizza organised by the hotel was awful! Bedlight switch not working which meant I had to undo light bulbs […] in order to have darkness but maintain power for the air conditioning in the room ( as door key is used to turn on the electricity for the room) Les mer

Excellent from start to finish. Great service and pleasant staff. Nice big rooms and beds. Yhe only downside was no freeview on T.V.
"Breakfast"
A very comfortable room with adequate facilities. Just a shame about the following comments. Breakfast was atrocious so much so that we had a refund for the following reasons. 1. No clean tables 2.No clean cups for tea and coffee 3. No glasses for fruit juice 3.Even though breakfast was 7.30 - 10.30 at 10am no bacon, beans or eggs. We asked for more […] to be cooked but they were only willing to cook bacon, when we asked if more scrambled eggs were available we were told in no uncertain terms "FINISHED COOKING". Les mer

this hotel is good value for money , location is a little hard for those without transportation as is out of the cit centre and hard to walk to from city centre as main highway does not hve foot paths all the way, however rooms are clean and comfortable staff are friendly and the breakfast is great.For those with a car it would be fantastic.

"Good value"
A nice hotel and good value. A little bit far out from the city centre, but walkable. We walked in the evening but got a taxi back as the surrounding area quite isolated.
"Mercure Cardiff Centre Hotel - comfy and quiet"
Despite the name, this hotel isn't really in the centre of Cardiff, although it only took me ten minutes to walk from the hotel into the centre of town. That said, walking to/from the hotel does mean having to cross a number of busy roads at a roundabout just outside the hotel, so a certain amount of care is needed in getting around. The room I stayed […] in was clean and tidy, although with various marks on the walls and skirting and a broken socket in the wall. The bed was comfortable, though, and the bathroom was very impressive, with a lovely powerful shower. The room was well away from the bar area, so was quiet even though there was quite loud music playing in the bar when I walked into the hotel. I stayed on a Friday and Saturday night, so had the weekend breakfast that doesn't include bacon or eggs - but the combination of cereal, toast, croissants and various other items made for a perfectly filling start to the day. Truly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Whilst the rooms themselves are a fair size and the facilitates in them adequate, the maintenance of the rooms is terrible, lost remotes for tv's not replaced (despite asking them on two separate occasions), shower heads cracked so that they spray water everywhere causing mould in the shower, only […] one of the buttons on the toilet flusher working etc. Add to this the lack of clarity on the hotels website about charging you extra for parking in the car park each night (there is no other option, it is just off a massive roundabout) or clear indication that they only supply any form of cooked breakfast during weekdays leaves you feeling gouged. There are cheaper hotels that will give a better service, one to avoid. Les mer
"Absolute rubbish"
What a catastrophe of events. Checked in and was given our first room, as myself and partner were working away, I left her in the bar/resuratnt to order a coffee and jacket potato while I went on up to the room to unpack. On getting in I flound the Internet connection hanging out of the wall and was suspect of it working at all. Popped down and told […] reception who said fine well move rooms. 2nd room and all was exactly the same!! Tried to plug in and nothing worked. Called down and explained to be told they would move again. While waiting, the food turned up with a normal coffee instead of the latte we had ordered, we could have made this ourselves with the facilities in the room and not been charged for this. Called reception and said that this wasn't good enough and wanted a refund for at least the coffee. Within about 5 mins we had a knock on the door and a gentleman who introduced himself as the manager came in and went on to explain all of the problems with the coffe suppliers and maintenance of the Internet etc. What's that to do with me? I just want what I paid for! He was very abrupt and he kept on calling me by my first name which really annoyed me, I didnt know his and when does a customer stop becoming a Mr or Sir and overfamilularity begin? Especially as I had a complaint. So then to room number 3, after a young girl knocked on the door and thrust £1.50 into my hand declaring "that's for the coffee". This room did have Internet access but the room heating was on full blast of 30 degrees and could not be turned down, the spare pillows had no covers and we found toenail clippings at the side of the bed. On connecting to the Internet, found it needed a password which no one told us about, even though this had been the problem with the first 2 rooms! On calling down to reception was given on begrudgingly by the same "manager" as before as a favour and so I wouldn't need to come down to reception? And there was a usual charge of £9 for 24 hours, ridiculous. De Les mer

A good choice on a budget but at least 15 minute walk to town or bus routes around. Ok for a family stay but in an industrial neighbourhood which I wouldn't want to walk in after dark. Staff are very friendly and helpful and a little updating and a new stair carpet would make the hotel more appealing. I would return there again for a Cardiff city break […] if I was on a budget. Although my hotel room was fine and the location fine for getting into Cardiff the buffet breakfast at the weekend is very poor, it is not even up to a continental breakfast standard.

My wife and I and two friends were on a vacation around the UK and stopped at this hotel for one night. We asked the afternoon/evening shift front desk for restaurant and pub recommendations; they gave us good advice and directions for both. When we returned that evening from the pub, the afternoon/evening shift was just wrapping up and switching to […] the night shift. The afternoon shift was very helpful and even ordered a pizza for us because he knew a local place. So we ordered a couple more drinks at the bar and waited for the pizza to arrive. After the night shift took over, we were immediately looked down upon, ignored at the bar (we were the only 4 people in the bar), charged differently for drinks, and overall treated rudely. Moral of the story, this hotel is excellent until midnight, then make sure you're in your room, because the front desk night shift is very inconsiderate. One more note - the hotel was advertised as free wireless internet, but that was not the case. If you need internet, be prepared to pay for it. Les mer

"Cardiff's version of Faulty Towers 4am fire alarm"
We arrived and were warmly greeted on the Friday night. The room was clean. Unfortunately we were woken up at 4am on the Sunday morning by a fire alarm. It was chaotic and uninformative. We did not feel calm as they staff did not appear to be calm.

I've stayed here several times before on business and till now have always had a comfortable stay, I checked in very late on a Monday evening/Tues morning so was reluctant to quibble over minor issues, the big issue I had was that the bed in the room (ironically, Room 101!) was dreadful! I sunk half way towards the floor on sitting on the bed, The TV […] remote was missing and in the morning when I went to take a shower, there was a showerhead present in the bath, however... no riser rail or curtain/screen! so I had to shower holding the head up with one arm switching over from time to time, not to mention flooding the bathroom! lucky it was a ground floor room! I reported these issues on Tuesday, none had been actioned when I returned that evening, all in all, the hotel is cheap as chips but I feel these are basic requirments above and on this occasion I didn't feel like I got value for money, quite a disappointing and sleepless stay with a 6 hour drive home on the Wednesday morning, Home is where the heart is I suppose though! "Great staff, basic rooms, hard to walk"
Not bad if you are in Cardiff for a couple of days. The location is the biggest minus - my windows looked out to a huge warehousing site with an industrial railway, the hotel faces a VW dealership, and you need to cross a very busy road with no traffic lights to get out of the hotel (then it's a 15 min walk to city centre past other hotels and more […] construction sites). The rooms are also quite basic - for instance, there were no facial tissues, no ironing facilities, the shampoo/shower gel was not refilled in 4 days, etc. On the other hand, the rooms and corridors are very clean, and the staff is really great - everyone was really welcoming and helpful and got me what I needed. This hotel was very good value for money, (we got a winter deal with breakfast). It was well within walking distance to Cardiff City Centre. Mermaid Quay was slightly further away, would recommend getting a taxi and only cost about £4. The room was clean and comfortable, only problem ( but not a big deal) was it had a shower instead of a bath! The breakfast […] was sufficient, but I would have liked a cooked one, (this is only available week days). Over all a very nice hotel and would stay here again and recommend it to friends. The hotel room was large enough with a comfortable double bed. My problem was the breakfast on Saturday morning, they were obviously not prepared for the amount of guests.....constantly running out of Mugs, glasses bowls, fruit juice and more importantly food, stating to a guest that she had to wait bucause they were full, SURELY they new that when […] they arranged the staff for service that day, no tables were cleared & cutlery had to requested at reception, what a pity as all it takes is organisation and spending a bit more money on bringing in the required staff.....who on the whole were ok. Comfortable, clean hotel convenient for both Cardiff Bay and the City Centre. There did appear to be a lot of groups i.e. stags and hens although there wasnt any rowdiness or noise. It was fine for us as a couple but i wouldnt want to stay there with my children.

Room had an unpleasant smell but we were given another immediately. Unfortunately both were on the ground floor facing straight into the car park and had no blinds/nets so had to have the curtains closed all the time. Staff very helpful though. The room was very uncomfortable, with no proper facilities.Three people were booked in but they only provided towels, cup,s.. tea coffee only for two . No ventilation of any sorts, no cooling system. 20 mins walk from Mermaid Quay. Spacious rooms. Attentive & helpful staff. Just one problem, air-con didn't work. Was offered another room, but it didn't work in this room either. Otherwise, very pleasant.
Mercure hotel in Cardiff is great hotel withing working distance to the centre city, the Castle and to the bay. very clean the staff are friendly and helpful I will difinetly recommend it to friends and family.
