The hotel was reasonable and clean. Happy to see it had been recently renovated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. 24 hour coffee was also a bonus.

good place to crash near the airport. Lots of great food is nearby, not near any tourist attractions, but thats ok. Probably not the cheapest in the area, but its ok. Bring your own quarters if you plan on doing laundry.

Melissa from the front was just so helpful and welcoming. She' salways on the ball doing something, always with a smile on her face. We travel a lot and this was so nice to see. Other man, who I later learned was the owner, was glaringly not interested in anyone and every time for the 6 days we stayed there, was on the computer and made no eye contact. […] Suggestion is do his work in the back so he doesn't appear so disinterested in people. This was a safe hotel in a safe area, which is one of the first things I always look for in a hotel. It was clean and I felt comfortable enough in the room. However, my room on the third floor smelled very musty. I had to open the window each time I entered the room to air it out. I don't know if there was a recent bathroom flood, or if that floor had […] a mildew/mold problem or something, but it was definitely noticeable. This was my worst hotel stay ever. I requested a non-smoking room; so I was placed on a floor that was "half-smoking and half-non-smoking." The smoke permeated throughout the floor and while my room was smoke-free, the smell was awful. When I asked for another room on a non-smoking floor, I was told that they could not accomodate us. The location of the hotel is great...it's withing walking distance of "The Melting Pot", "Applebees" as well as the mall, however overall, the hotel quality is fair. I do have to say for the price it is "ok" overall. Would I stay there again? Probably not.

I went through EXPEDIA to book two rooms (non-smoking) for the weekend. When we arrived at the hotel, we found that some unknown person cancelled the second room. The lady on duty tried to find a second room and all she could come up with was a smoking room. We declined the second room. I contacted EXPEDIA and they showed two rooms booked under my name, […] I was given a refund for the second room. Traveled to Newport News to attend "Family Weekend" event at CNU and celebrate kids birthdays with friends 10/6 - 10/8. Hotel suite was very accommodating and easy to locate. Short drive to Busch Gardens where we enjoyed Howl - O -Scream and roller coaster rides for birthday celebration. The only complaint is that the room (Rm 314) had a very unpleasant odor, very much like stale tobacco, although it was supposed to be a non-smoking room. Other than that, all was fine.

The hotel where I usually stay in Newport News was sold out so I used Expedia to find a comparable rate at a hotel in a safe location within a reasonable distance from my daughter's university. While the location was just off of a major thoroughfare, it was stuck behind a trucking company and across from a strip mall that is partially being torn down. […] Check in was accomplished in less than 2 minutes and I was given a room on the 3rd floor. I was also given instructions on how to operate the air conditioning system. The hallway was quiet, however there was an odor of stale cigarette smoke the entire length of the hallway even though the rooms were designated non-smoking. I opened the door to my room and was overpowered by a stale cigarette odor. There were long black hairs on the floor of the bathroom beside the tub which also evidence of mildew in the corners of the tub wall enclosure. The towels were dingy and also smelled musty. The commode was clean. The door to my room did not lock well as the strike plate on the door frame was damaged as if there had been forced entry. This did not allow for the dead bolt to be deployed. I was traveling alone and wanted to secure my door completely. The front desk representative came to the room and said that the door was secure and that there were no other rooms where I could be moved. I spent the weekend with a chair in front of the door for safety. Television was broken. POSITIVES: Quiet, great bed, sitting area in room excellent. Les mer

We were there for a family reunion, and while most of our relatives stayed at the Marriot at City Center we found that the Best Western Plus offered us all the amenities of a nice hotel and breakfast. The breakfast was huge plus because we were traveling with small children.

I thought that the stay could have been better. We were told breakfast was until 10 am and the food was packed away by 9:30 am. In addition, our toilet didn't work all that well, housekeeping kept busting in and our late check-out wasn't late.

We came in for a nights stay and for the price we were satisfied. The bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows , which I like. The room was Cumfy and the staff was nice. Didn't hear a bunch of noise and was not bothered by anyone. If I had to choose this hotel in the future for a night stay I would.

The location is excellent! We were there to detliver our soldier to Ft Eustis and they gave us an extra day with him. the hotel accomadated our need for an extra night and different size room than originally booked - Jerry at the front desk was amazing! Plan to stay there again when we visit our soldier.

The only major complaint I had about the hotel was he smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways. Very overwhelming, but the odor never made it inside my room. Overall a good place to stay for a few nights.

Hotel was near airport but not so close that I heard any airplanes. Area seemed safe and was very near shopping and food. Breakfast was continental, but included bacon and eggs (not the best eggs, but the bacon was a pleasant surpirse for a continental). Also juices, cereal, etc. Room was a good size and everything worked fine. Bed maybe slightly hard. No […] significant sounds from neighboring rooms, during my stay - but they were not crowded and I only saw business folks checking in/out. Wireless internet worked fine. And price was very good. We had a king mini-suite. It was clean, odor=-free and quiet, even though it was just off the lobby. The help was nice. I will be coming back in January and will need 3 rooms for 4 nights each, and will definitely be staying here. I had previously stayed across the street at the Microtel and would not go there again.

I had a horrible time sleeping because the people next to us had their music too high, I mean I could hear it loud and clear in my room. I tried to call the front desk a few times not no one answered. It was about 1am when all this started and I was with my husband and daughter and did not want to leave the room to go up front to talk to the staff when […] they should have answered the phone. Hotell was fine, our room was clean, and the night clerk was helpful and informative. She answered all my questions. The checkout process on the next day was okay though the clerk was cool and distant due in some measure to his having to do many things at once. He wasn't interested in my Best Rewards card so I suspect this is something I have to do […] online. He refused to handle it. Good place, though, and a good breakfast. Les mer

I was a little skeptical of staying here, after reading some so-so reviews. I have to say, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The location is great, my husband and I stayed overnight for a family function we went to, so we had plenty of time to waste before the even happened. I loved that the hotel was right across the street from the mall […] and so many restaurants, we never had a hard time finding something to do. Our room, and the rest of the hotel, was very clean. The room was pretty big, too. The staff that we dealt with, were very nice and helpful. Sure, the free breakfast wasn't gourmet, but I was surprised with the choices they offered. I was happy that they served hot foots like bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausage gravy & biscuits. They also had all of the basic cold foods (cereal, muffins, etc.). Basically, I felt that the hotel was a really good value for what we paid. I would definitely recommend it, and I would definitely stay there again. Les mer
