Vi hadde et flott opphold på HHMI&S! vi var på familieferie med barn fra 12-22 - de elsket stedet. Flott med et lite treningssenter, nydelig bassengområde med bordtennisbord og boblebad! Vi hadde både frokost og middag i restauranten - fantastisk god mat!De i resepsjonen var utrolig hyggelige og imøtekommende. Området rundt var stille og rolig, med flere koselige restauranter så man slapp kjøre inn i byen. Kort vei til Sea World. Eneste minus var at noen av hotellgjestene var svært høylytte nattestid, og det var lytt fra utsiden av rommet. Det var også ganske lytt mellom rommene, så vi kunne høre svært godt krangelen på naborommet fra badet vårt. Men alt i alt et supert opphold! Kommer gjerne tilbake!!

"Good, BUT...."
The Sofia is a good boutique hotel, but it has some problems. First, they were tearing out a building attached to the back of the hotel and had jackhammers and heavy equipment going from 7am. Annoying!!! The wireless was less than strong, making it iffy in the room at times. The TV reception on local over the air chanels was very bad with lines and […] interference. We have noticed this on previous visits and have asked about it and they say it is just that way and they can't do anything about it. Not a good answer. The maid did not replenish our toiletries one day and left only regular coffee (though we had used only the decaf. They charge a $7.50 a day charge for the water bottle in the room, coffee, wireless, etc. The charge is manditory and not included in the Hotels.com charge for the room. Les mer
"Lovely stay"
Enjoyed our stay their, this hotel is close to everything you can walk to where you need to go. Staff was great, rooms were small but nice and clean. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The only down turn is the parking it's only valet so you can't just get in your car and go, but don't let that stop you they get your car right away.

Really enjoyed our stay! This is a cozy hotel with extremely friendly staff and service! Right near the Gaslamp district and tons of great dining and bars. Can't wait to stay there again!

"The Sofia Hotel-easy access to the San Diego Opera"
What a great location for your stay in San Diego! Only blocks from the vibrant Gaslamp District, near shopping, and steps away from the San Diego Opera. The staff was welcoming, and our room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed drinks and a snack at Currant before the opera. There's a coffee and tea shop right next door.

Very nice hotel with an amazing location in downtown. From this location, everything in the downtown is walkable. Would recommend it again!

I stayed for 3 nights and can't fault anything about the hotel or staff. The location is great, especially if you want to be able to walk to all the must-see sights - The Gas Lamp area, the USS Midway & Harbor etc.

Very nice place however, there is a MAJOR RENOVATION GOING ON to the parking structure. All day long the building is loud and rumbling. The workers let up around 4pm and pick up again in the morning. If your out all day then it shouldn't matter but if your looking for some daytime Zzzzz after a long flight call ahead and check the the construction status. "Nice place"
I enjoyed my brief stay at the Sofia. The hotel is charming, the staff very helpful, and the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant, Currant, was quite good and reasonably priced for a quick dinner.

We stayed here the rooms were nice but a bit small kinda cramed when we stayd here there was construction goin on that they didn't tell about so it was noise in the morning couldn't even sleep in. The bar is nice and fair prices. When we booked taught we were gettin a smoken deal but when you arive there is a 30 dollar parkin charge witch you have no […] choice to pay sense there is no parkin around the hotel. Even tho the hotel was nice sure if I would stay here again cuz they should of been up front about the construction and that you will able to here the noise in your room not cool on there part Les mer

The hotel was great - love Boutique hotels and our little suite was cute and comfortable. However, on Monday morning, the jackhammers started - they are doing construction on one side of the building and the construction noise echoes through the whole place. Everytime I come to San Diego I stay here. The staff is always great, and the rooms are too. The street noise is a little much, but what downtown area hotel doesn't have that noise?

We had an odor in our room and the front desk was very accommodating about switching to another room. Only problem would be there are no windows that open for fresh air. Great getaway!

The rooms are small, but if you are looking to stay for a couple of nights or needing a place to stay for a business trip. The Sofia Hotel is a good location. It's walking distance to the mall and bunch of good restaurants.

Nice comfortable beds. Good location close to restaurants and shopping, however a bit noisy from the traffic. The only drawback is that it is not possible to get breakfast at the hotel but there are several cafes serving breakfast nearby.
"Be cautious"
My wife developed issues during the second day of our stay after we turned the AC on in the room. We had wanted to open windows but they were not able to be opened, so we used the AC to cool down the room. Turns out the AC had a severe dust problem, and her allergies made the next 10-12 hours terrible until we had figured out that turning on the AC […] was the cause of her sudden coughing and headaches. Other than that, the staff was very helpful, the facilities were well maintained, and the location is hard to beat in San Diego. Overall very happy with my stay. Only comment would be the extra resort fee charged. I know many hotels do this but is is like a forced extra charge for services they say they provide whether you want them or not. If I don't want to read the paper, use the bottled water or ride your bikes why should I have to pay for the daily fee.

"Updated Historic Hotel with great service"
I stayed here for a conference that was taking place a few blocks away. I chose it for the price, historic charm, and proximity to my conference site. It was a great choice! The building itself was really pleasant. The lobby was clean and stylishly decorated, with a very nice attached restaurant that rose above the usual contrived hotel bar. Rooms […] were cute but small, although the space was used well. The only feature that I didn't love was the bathroom door- a modern sliding door that felt less than private. The service was excellent! My friend needed to do a lot of faxing and printing, and the hotel was happy to accommodate her without extra cost. I think I liked the location. It was on the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter. This was good and bad. It was quiet and a little cheaper, but was a 2-3 block walk to get to restaurants. The area was pretty deserted at night, but did feel safe. I walked 4-5 blocks to and from the conference center in the evening, and never felt concerned for my safety. Overall, the sofia is a lovely hotel with historic charm but lots of modern renovations, in a central location but quiet neighborhood! I'd definitely stay there again if return to San Diego! Les mer

Great value. Helpful staff. Clean and cozy hotel with historic allure. 10-15 min walk to convention center. Shopping mall with Macys, Nordstrom 2 blocks away. Several eating options within 15 min walking radius

The hotel staff was very friendly. The resturant was fabulous and the walk to downtown was safe and relatively short. The room was small but extremely clean and quiet! Would stay here again!!

Very helpful and pleasant staff. No pool. Windows don't open. No balconies. Daily room service charge of $8/day?? For what? Very easy access to public transit. Superb location.
"Nice Boutique Hotel"
The Sofia is a great little hotel.... the only thing I wish it had was room service. It does have a GREAT restaurant/bar downstairs called Currant but again, was craving some breakfast and room service would have been ideal. Everyone that worked there was very nice and helpful. Also.... it is about 1/2 block from a jail. My friend went down to smoke […] a cigarette and was approached by a guy still wearing his jumpsuit asking for a light.... not so great! That may sound like a total deal breaker, but actually, we had NO idea it was even near the hotel. Les mer

"Very nice-Rooms are small"
The Westgate across the street has rooms that are 5x bigger!! The Sofia was a great place for our anniversary. Only BIG problem is that the valets were very rude. They were 5'7 and 5'3 boys that needed a good spanking for their attitude and comments. I called and complained. Other than that--very nice. Business center was free too. =)

The hotel is wonderfully situated near the main part of the Gaslamp Quarter. It was also in walking distance of the trolley stop (and the bus stop was across the street) so it was easy to go out and explore San Diego. Highly recommended! One thing though - because this is an historic hotel, the rooms are a little smaller than a traditional one. Take […] is as part of the quaintness and not as a setback. Great place. Some complain of the rooms and TV's being too small. I personally think that if you are in San Diego and want to just stay in your room and watch tv, you should probably reconsider your trip. Excellent hotel!

"Charming hotel"
The Sofia Hotel was very charming, it had a historic feel to it which was displayed nicely thru old pictures on the wall. The lobby service was ok but I will say the maid did a great job in cleaning our room (tipping a few bucks always helps) . Our 3rd floor room had a view of the street the traffic could be heard but it didn't bother us one bit ( would […] not recommend if your a light sleeper) the size of the room was a bit small and the bathroom / sink area was way too small . All in all our stay was great the hotel had a good location and we enjoyed the historic feel . If you can get a good deal on the room I would recommend it ,its Probly the only way I'd stay there again. Les mer

"Very Small room!"
I recently booked a 2 double bed room at the sofia hotel & it was pretty small!! Our restroom was tiny & the shower didnt even have a full door!! just half a glass covering it which i guess looks cool & modern but when we showered it got water all over the restroom!!! & also The T.v. in our room was TINY! not Cute At all! & the worse part is that there […] is NO FREE PARKING for Hotel Guest which is Absolutely freaking ridiculous!!!!!!!!! We had to pay an Extra $30.00 charged to our room for Hotel Valet!! YUP!! $30.00!!!!! The hotel itself is Nice & right next to The gaslamp district which is very convenient when parting down there but was not happy w how small the rooms actually are! Les mer

Very nice hotel - rooms were small, yes, however ample...and what one should expect from a boutique hotel. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had four rooms here while attending a conference. The only downside was the 'noises' coming from other rooms on the weekend nights only. During the week, it was quiet. I enjoyed this hotel, and would stay […] there again. Les mer

"queen city view: contentment"
Our experience was very positive at this hotel. It is in an excellent location a stone's throw from several different neighbourhoods: Gaslamp, the waterfront/Maritime Museum area, Little Italy, not to mention Horton Plaza two blocks away. Bus to the zoo is across the street. Our corner room was a 'city view' queen, which was a few dollars more in off-season […] but incredible bright and well-appointed, and very quiet. The wired+wireless internet and in-room safe were incredibly convenient, and we liked the availability of bicycles, thought finally didn't take advantage of these. All this and the daily replacement of the in-room bottled water made the $8 supplemental daily guest services charge an excellent value. I had packages sent to the hotel and these, as well as check in/out, were handled professionally. Though this hotel is definitely in an urban setting and on a busy street, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Les mer

Loved it! The bikes available were great too! The location was great for us. It was really fun to take the ferry to Coronado too. Super easy with the bikes. The hotel service was great. I"d stay there again!

refurbished and traditional, a wonderful change from the mundane chain hotels. Rooms are smallish, in keeping with the age (1926) but everything else is up to date- business center, excellent cafe-restaurant, great value
