Hotellet framstår som nyoppusset, noe av fengselspreget med gitter i gangvinduer er bevart - sjarmerende! Vi brukte restauranten bare til frokost, et greit utvalg av mat med vekt på frukt. Bra! Eneste lille minus vi fabt var at betjeningen i restauranten var for snau i helgen, gjestene måtte selv rydde bord for å få et sted å spise. Vi hadde bestilt […] enkeltrom med queensize seng. Romslig nok for to.Grei gangavstand til sentrum, men vi benyttet tredagers kort på trikken. Den stopper rett utenfor hotellet og med krysningspunkt for all annen off. kom. ved jernbanestasjonen var dette kortet meget nyttig. Hotellet anbefales! Les mer

Et hyggelig hotell med historisk sus. Deilig frokost og beliggenhet i et rolig og trivelig område. 10 - 15 min gange til sentrum.

Kjempefint hotell med veldig hyggelig personell, en spesiell atmosfære ettersom det er et ombygd fengsel. Høyt under taket, og veldig pene og koselige rom. Generelt sett meget høy standard, og ingen ting å utsette på noe. Trikkestopp rett utenfor hotellet(kjekt i -20C), som går tvers igjennom sentrum, og til andre siden av byen.

Great concept hotel ! Being in Marimekko Country you should provide guests with black&white t-shirts to wear as well - it would make more people stay in the hotel bar and restaurant and a possible new Jailhouse Rock Disco Bar concept where everybody has the same costume ( cap&T-shirt) with jail caps and Black&White striped T-shirts.. Et flott hotell med fine rom og hyggelig betjening. Trivelig uterestaurant og parkeringsmuligheter innenfor eget område. Grei spasseravstand til indre sentrum.

Sentral beliggenhet, nytt og fresht, spennende design, dette er et gammelt fengsel! Kommer gjerne tilbake neste gang vi skal til Helsinki.

Svært sevice innstilt i resepsjon. Hyggelig rom, stort nok for 1 person, lite for 2 personer. herlig seng, men for harde puter.

Byggets tidligere funksjon ga en helt spesiell atmosfære til hotell og være. Bygget tidligere funksjon var videreført på sin spesielle måte, alt fra rommene, rammen rundt bespisning og betjeningens bekledning. En meget positiv erfaring til komfortabel pris. Gunstig beliggenhent i forhold til byens sentrum - gangavstand. Ellers var trikk nr. 4 et godt […] alternativ. Den gikk like utenfor, om man ønsket raskere transport til/fra sentrum. Les mer

Ett veldig koselig hotell. Er nettopp gjort om fra fengsel til hotell. Noe de har omfavnet til det fulle. Fangeuniformer på servitørene. Stålkrus til vann. Ett morsomt hotell med det lille eksta som får det til å skille seg ut i mengden. Vedig imøtekommende personale som kom med gode mat ambefalinger og bestilte bord for oss. Mye sjarm på dette nylige oppussede hotellet. Vi nøt hotellomgivelsene og livet som fengselfugler. Kan anbefales på det sterkeste. Det som trekker ned er at det ikke var tråløst internett på rommet, men ellers bra service, rent, og topp kvalitet.

Hotellet er et nedlagt fengsel fra 1870-åra. Det har høy standard, jeg hadde fint stort dobbelrom, men badene var kalde.. dette trakk veldig ned synes jeg.. hyggelig betjening. Restauranten var hyggelig og fin, men ikke særlig god service og mat...

The hotel is really nice, it is located in a quiet area, but still only 10 minutes walk to the city center. And there is a tram station just outside the gate. Interesting building, it was used as a prison just a few years ago, and it has been renovated to good hotel standard with the prison features still intact. hotellet lå i gangavstan (ca. 15 minutter) fra sentrum og rommene var stille. Dette er virkelig et at de beste hotellene jeg har bodd på, veldig bra service og frokosten var stor og innholdsrik.

Dette var en meget bra erfaring. Likte rommene og interiøret. En fin plassering i Helsinki. Sentralt, men samtidig litt skjermet. Fin trikkeforbindelse til sentrum.

Peaceful and quiet hotel in the heart of Helsinki. Easy access with bike (for rent at hotel) and tram to anywhere in the city. This old prison has thick walls and you will not hear anybody while sleeping here. We really enjoyed our stay here. If you come by boat from Stockholm, the Viking terminal is walking distance. Hotellet som helhet kan anbefales. Beliggenhet i forhold til sentrum av byen er ca. 5 min. gange og trikkeholdeplassen ligger rett utenfor inngangen. Vennlig og serviceminded reseptionist, innbydende værelse og bad med særegen innrdening, da hotellet tildligere har vært et fengsel. Fristende meny på hotellets restaurant og imøtekommende personale.

Stayed at the hotel 4 days with my wife and 3 years old son and had a really nice time there! The hotel is located very central and in nice surroundings. The staff is very much serviceminded. We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel - it is a short tram ride away from the railway station. The room was nicely decorated - I really loved the heated tiles in the bathroom! Breakfast was a good selection, don't forget to visit the jail cell located at the end of the jailbreak restaurant!

the hotel has a really nice theme, tram 4 is easy for city centre, great breakfast. it's a bit cold since it's a old building tho. and cleaning persons didn't do their jobs in some days... Overall a nice place to stay.

The Best Western Katajanokka was a great hotel and a very cool concept being transformed from a jail. The breakfast and surrounding location was great as well and a very short tram ride to anything else you want to see. Would highly recommend a stay here if you are in the Helsinki area.

Yes it was a jail and therefore is kind of unique. Reasonable rates and efficient staff. Breakfast is very good. Nice little gym. Trolley line right outside the door in case you don't rent a car - get the daily or multiple day pass if you are going to use it more than once. Only negatives are that the rooms are on the smaller side (it was a jail cell […] after all) and the in-house restaurant was little pricey. Overall I would definitely recommend this as a fine place to stay! Les mer

Everything was great but there is one thing i couldn't get along with. I could hear a sound for the whole time and i assume it's the alarm of the hotel. it's a very light one, but continuously intermittent...at first i thought i had a problem to my ears, but then i slowly realized that it was everywhere in the hotel. An extraordinary ensemble on a peninsula in a quiet environment - yes, this should be sufficient for the description of an ideal caribbean holiday resort. However, forget about the Caribbean Sea - I am talking about a very good hotel location in the Baltic Sea. Or to be more detailed, the place is Helsinki, the peninsula is Katajanokka, and the resort […] is a former prison built in 1837. It is located within walking distance to the city centre, downtown harbour basins, and several ferry terminals. There is tramway line 4 in front, and a very good beer pub "Poseidoon" is not far away down the road. The hotel is to be recommended without any restriction, to say the least, so are also its restaurant and bar. There is free WLAN and LAN available. Les mer

I have nothing bad to say about this Hotel, everything was just fine. Breakfast was very good. Near to the see and near the city of Helsinki. We were there in February and it was a lot of snow and it was great but i can imagine this place is really nice in summer. It was a experience to live in a old prison :)

This hotel is converted from an old prison which gives it some character. Good location, good breakfast, quiet comfortable rooms. Would book again.

Very comfortable, close to city center, short trip on the tram or a 10-15 min walk. Calm environment. Good breakfast. Former jail which gave it a special athmosphere.

This former prison has been cleverly converted into a nice hotel, in a quiet part of Helsinki. It is easy to get to, right next to the number 4 tram stop. The reception was welcoming and friendly. The rooms are of a good size and the shower is excellent. The Jailbird Restaurant in the basement is also really nice. How often are you in a hotel that really sets itself apart by being something very... spectacularly different! Katajanokka hotel is unique; you are in an old jail that used to be in that use still few years ago. Everything looks and feels like a 1900 Century jail; the aisles, the doors, the cellar, you name it. And then you enter your cell (room) and […] it is very modern, stylish and comfortable. Wow! The personnell was very friendly and professional, as well. Highly recommend both for tourists and business people. Stayed for two nights in October, 2011. Hotel is in the old town, great location and looks amazing from the outside. Only down side was the very small double room we had and the bathroom being basically a shower, WC and tiny sink in the same wet room. The beds were very small too. Everything was great except that out room was not in the 'jail' area - it was was more ordinary tan I expected. Be sure to ask for a jail room if that is important for you.

Very nice property, comfortable, great bathroom. Interesting concept - converted prison. Restaurant and bar were good. Breakfast excellent. Good location, easy to catch tram just in front, very close to walk to central downtown. Only downside - not many restaurants in immediate neighborhood. Highly recommend this property.

Nice job of converting a prison into a hotel...standard room was equivalent of two cells with nicely done bAthroom facilities added. Jailhouse restaurant was very good. We usually search outside the hotel for a restaurant but reviews were good so we tried it and were not at all disappointed. breakfast had lots of choices including a chef waiting to […] make your egg order if you so chose. Would highly recommend it, especially if you are arriving by ferry as you can easily walk to hotel. Even train station was only about 25 minute walk. Les mer

One of the best boutique hotel i have stayed in. Cant believe its Best Western. I am not a fan of BW chain. Its modern, comfy, friendly & way above my expectation. Not much of a Jail feel since its been completely remodeled but no disapptment at all. Not much atmosphere at the bar but convenient location.. tram stop right infront of the hotel. The fact that this was a prison until 2003 was the attraction for me. The room had free internet and the hotel provided a very long ethernet cord so you could use your lap top anywhere in the room. The bathroom was large. You also had an in room safe to use at no charge. The free hot breakfast was great. I didn't find any eating places close by, but […] there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel that could take you anywhere. I can't say enough about how helpful and cheerful the staff was during our stay. The hotel was often very busy yet the staff maintained their cool as they helped visitor after visitor with problems, inquiries, restaurant recommendations, etc. We had several situations that they were particularly helpful with, and always asked the next day how things […] had gone. The hotel was very good and only about 3 years old. It is a converted county jail that they use to thier advantage keeping the halls and stairs in prison style. Some doorways have bars on both sides for image. They have the jailhouse newletter, the Jailbreak bar and resturant, and the Jailyard terrace. The rooms are bright and new with modern lighting […] and a nice wall to wall shower. They have a desk with free internet cable hookup. They are located 3 blocks and 10 minutes from the Viking line ferry to Tallin and Stockholm I think. The number 4 tram line will get you to the center of the city in about 5 minutes. A truly wonderful hotel; unusual but great setting, large rooms and bathrooms, relaxed but still efficient service, easy enough distance from centre of city. Great value for a 4 star hotel.
