While you can tell the building is old and could using some refurbishing - they have done a wonderful job of working with what they have - for lack of better words. The way they have decorated the hotel is really neat and a nice change from the typical ugly patterns you see in a majority of hotels. I love the modern/club feel. This was a great place to stay, great staff, convenient location. There is a Coffee Bean downstairs, a great pizza place & an amazing Mexican restaurant up the block. Great Staff, every thing is simple. no dog deposit and they give toys and treats for your pouch each time you walk by the front desk.

As any Boutique Hotels, Custom Hotel is no different. Clean lines, contemporary, with just enough amenities to accommodate a customer. The hotel suited my needs for the one night stay for a great rate. The complimentary airport service was prompt and the staff were polite and diligent. The check-in was swift and the Food and Bar had excellent menu. […] Free wifi! Printed my boarding pass for free. The bedroom was a tad dark due to the gray paint at the entrance. But the bed and linens were very clean and comfortable and the bathroom clean. It was quiet which was wonderful after 12 hour flight from overseas. Stayed here years ago. What a great improvement. I stayed on the third floor facing Lincoln blvd. I recommend a higher floor for a view. Loved the flat screen, ac. was great. Low floor king bed was perfect! Looking for a reason to go back.

The service was excellent and friendly. However, the rooms left much to be desired. The beds were low to the ground, the bedding was lumpy looking (was that on purpose? is that new hotel fashion?), the room seemed small, didn't have any chairs or tables. Nothing to watch on tv but the menu for pay only tv. The bathroom was small, one sink, no where […] to put your stuff. But it was clean and price was good. So I guess it depends on what you want. But if you're looking for comfort and luxury this is not the hotel for you. The breakfast buffet was mediocre at best. Les mer

We found Santiago to be a very walkable. The hotel was ~10 minutes walking to the plaza de armas, but also centrally located to a couple other neighborhoods and sights. It was clean, nicely decorated, and the staff was EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. All english speaking as well if that is a requirement. Sweet sleek impressive design, loved it

We stayed at the custom hotel for one night. Our room and service was okay but somebody broke into our car. The car was parked on the street per the front counter. We didn't want to pay the $20 for valet parking. Long story short, crooks shattered the passenger side window and leaving a big dent on the door frame. They also took our iPod which I purchased […] for my wife for Christmas gift along with the iPod and GPS chargers. I think the hotel should monitor the block since most of the visitors park on the street. Security guards or cameras should help prevent this problem. I don't think I will stay at this hotel again because of this incident. Les mer

Nice, trendy-ish hotel. Comfy beds. No desk in the room. Nice, big, wall-mounted LCD TVs with plenty of channels. Bathroom products were nice (a combination of every trendy scent and ingredient out there -- eg yuzu lemongrass soap, bergamot bamboo shampoo, etc). Nice staff nice atmosphere

This hotel has a 3.5 stars rating, I have no ideas where it is from. From the condition I have seen, 2 star is the most. Over night valet parking is $20, the rooms are old and basic.

CustomHOtel was located in the most convenient area where we could get to anywhere we want. Few things to complain - no coffee maker, no fridge and no cups. Few basic things were missing. Wish they would complete the room with few of those basic hotel necessities. Overall loved the room, especially the ipod dock :) Will def. recommend to my friends

I love this hotel. Even though we were right next to the airport, you couldn't hear the planes. It's modern and stylish; the pool is heated and has a great lounge area poolside. Quality - Good, new and clean looking hotel near San Francisco Airport. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room.

The people at the front counter were so helpful and nice! Every employee I encountered was courteous, greeted me, and had a smile on their face. I believe the attitude of the workers can tell you a lot about how much pride the workers have in their hotel and consequently how well a hotel is maintained. I thought it was strange that the hotel had a […] restaurant attached to it but did not offer room service. This seems like a management oversight; it doesn't seem like it should be so difficult to have some of the valet drivers cross-trained to deliver food and offer customers the additional service. The hotel is best situated if you're going to Loyola Marymount University. It's further from the airport than much of its competition and there isn't much else around there that I know of. Location is kind of hit or miss. The walls drove me crazy! The decor tried to be minimal, modern, chic and for the most part I thought it went along well. The curtains for walls, however, is one of the worst ideas ever concocted. Large curtains (for lack of a better word, I want to refrain from calling them draperies which is too nice of a word) should not cover walls (in my opinion) because: 1) They are creepy and look like they're concealing something; 2) They make the room feel claustrophobic and a little bit like an insane asylum from some second-rate movie; and 3) They serve absolutely no purpose. I understand that decor doesn't always have to be functional, but these wall-covering curtains are so shamelessly pretentious. So to recap: I don't like the wall coverings. The people are friendly. There's a restaurant, but no room service. I alluded to mandatory valet parking. Location was great for me, but may not be if you're not heading to LMU. Hotel was clean enough. Les mer

Dark room. Could not see closet to hang anything. Platform bed which means a few inches off the floor and very difficult to get up and down from. Spartan furnishings...one small plastic chair. no where comfortable to sit and read with decent light Weird flashing lights around window that were impossible to ignore. No tea or coffee in room. Restaurant […] was closed. Shuttle to airport late. Hot and cold water taps reversed. Had to walk next door to open wine and got some attitude. I was pleasantly surprised by the Custom Hotel. I was in LA for business and stayed at the Custom Hotel near LAX. My room was clean and comfortable and my bathroom was large and well equipped. I will definitely stay at the Custom again!

We were on a layover so it was a short stay and there had been a power outage so the restaurant was closed, but we liked the friendliness and helpfull attitude of the staff very much. Bed was extremely comfortable, but no choice of pillows, and the two we had were hard as foam can be. That funny light stick in the window drove us nuts until we figured […] out how to turn it off. Since then I spoke with a friendnwhonhad stayed there on LA business and had a similar experience with that light. The water was hot and strong until we tried to use the shower and the diverter didnt work properly so the shower had very little water coming out and it was difficult to wash my long hair. Suggest bigger, better towels, some washcloths and bar of soap in the bath. We will certainly give it another try when stoping over in LA next time. And the Latte in the morning at the bar downstairs was excellent! Les mer

Loved our brief stay here! We were only in LA for a layover and chose the Custom Hotel because of its uniqueness. This charming hotel wowed us with fabulous service and we felt really welcome with our dogs--not always the case at other pet-friendly hotels we have stayed at. There was even a large park across the street for exercising our furry friends. […] We really enjoyed the ambience and the little touches that make this hotel unique--from the outdoor pool area and fab restaurant right down to the eco-friendly toiletries. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay at any hotel that isn't a Hilton or a Holiday Inn! Ooh--and did I mention the free wifi?! Les mer

I have absolutely no complaints at all. By far one of my favorite places to stay ever. An incredibly wonderful hotel. I would recommend it in a heart beat. All employees: front desk, maintenance, housekeeping, valet ... were amazing!!! Thank you for making my stay perfect!

Everything about Custom Hotel makes me happy. I love that they are pet friendly, I love the adjacent restaurant, I love the style of the place. There is a Ralphs nearby and plenty of other food choices in the surrounding area. I have stayed here more than once and I would totally recommend it.

The service I received at this hotel was absolutely the best service I have ever received! The staff was super attentive, and every request I made was cheerfully met and fulfilled quickly. We were difficult to accommodate, having 2 service animals, another dog, and two lovebirds as we relocated from Hawaii to Georgia. This hotel is close to LAX, which is why we selected it. There's a shuttle to the airport, and there are plenty of non-chain restaurants very close by in the mostly residential neighborhood. It obviously caters to the artsy set, or at least wants to. Being an older straight couple we were sneered at by some of the younger gay crowd, and the hotel staff […] seemed less than comfortable dealing with people who (I think) believed should be at the Hilton Express down the street. The halls and rooms are stark - the halls very dark charcoal grey, with black carpeting. The hotel is older (mid-1950s - like us!) and while clean, is showing its age. The room furniture is modern and sparse - only one chair in our basic queen-bed room. And lighting is low - impossible to read a book, but perhaps that's not why most people stay here. I'd recommend this to younger couples who want to be near the beach at Venice, or who need to get to the airport. There's a nice park across the street, and a bowling alley next door if you want a true mid-century modern experience in LA. Les mer

Location is excellent near LAX in a very nice neighborhood of Westchester near Loyola Marymount University. Customer Service was outstanding from all the Front desk clerks to the shuttle drivers. One of them even went out of her way to get information on some tourist spots we were planning to visit. Check-In and Check-Out was a breeze. For those of […] you who have dogs, they even have a water dish for them in the Lobby. Although it is an older property they have remodeled and have added some nice modern touches. There is a Super Market and Bowling Alley next to the Hotel along with many other eating places and small shops all located within a block. There is also a Large Public Park with Driving Range and Tennis Courts across the street. Once again what makes this Hotel great is their Customer Service and their Location. Les mer

It was very close to LAX and we used free pick-up and drop-off service. It was nice~ There are many restaurants near the hotel by 5~10 minutes walking.. The room was a little bit noisy due to something like fan or air conditioner... Except noisy all condition was fantastic!! Mordern Interior, clean room, kind staffs.. I will choose it again.

I arrived way before my check in time and the staff was very helpful in letting me get a room early. They were also very helpful in letting me get lunch even though the restaurant was closed. The hotel is quite old but has recently been renovated. However you can tell that the renovations were done on a very low budget. The hallways are very dark, the […] furniture is cheap Ikea furniture, the bed is very uncomfortable, only two cardio machines were working in the gym. The gym area is tiny! I was quite disgusted to find that the bed sheets had stains all over them. Good thing about this hotel is that there is a grocery store right next door and various places to eat near by. The pool area and restaurant / bar are about the only things I enjoyed during my stay. Les mer

Bathrooms need help,they sprayed over the old tile and now its all peeling off,the spouts on the tub and sink were almost falling off,beds were real low,futon style.

We´ve stayed at Custom both before and after Joie de Vivre ownership. It is a fantastic location to LAX. It is close to the beaches as well. Staff member Maile was a great help. She directed us to the Big Blue Bus to Santa Monica and suggested a great restaurant called Fraiche. She helped make our short stay in Los Angeles very memorable!

This hotel is very uniquely styled and quite pleasing to stay at. The staff was very nice and hospitable. The only thing I didn't like was the $20 fee for overnight parking. I was told the cost is due to limited parking; however, the parking garage was only half full that night I slept there.

I've been staying at the Custom quite often for a few years now. The value can't be beat, not even taking into account the quality. Dumpy places on the westside of LA are always way more money and the hotels east or south of the airport don't even compare. (Airport noise is pretty much unnoticeable, if you're worried about it). The Custom is cool, hip, […] comfortable and convenient to LAX and the westside. Fun bar/restaurant overlooking the pool, which has cabanas and a great fire pit. Modern rooms, flatscreen tvs, affordable movie selections, free wifi. A great hotel at a great value. Les mer

My only complaint was the shower tile grouting looked very dirty and the coverlets had stains. But it met my needs due to the blackout in my neighborhood.

This was a fantastic place to stay! I remember when this hotel was the Furama...and you couldn't have paid me to stay at that place...but the Custom Hotel is amazing! I stayed in a room with a king bed...and it was comfy...they have all the amenities you want and more. The concierge at the front desk was very helpful...even the valet parking guys were […] good. interesting.... old hotel where an effort was made to modernize it. The rooms are modernistic minimalist. The room echoes, very low bed, however is clean. With it's hip/modern/edgy rooms and vibe and incredible/friendly/happy to serve you staff... unlike most hotels, especially around the LAX area, there is actually a nightlife here.. whether you want it to be outside mingling by the cool bar/pool area outside... or... in the privacy of your own room... it's not BORING or "typical" of the 4 star hotels […] surrounding LAX (which, btw, I have stayed in almost ALL of them and would choose this hotel ANY DAY.. esp.considering the very very fair prices.. for business, my self alone, or "romance" (I LOVE how you can set the vibe for the room with the different color lighting as well as each light being a "dimmer"...( I always say, lol, its all about music and lighting) ... which they have an Ipod/Iphone dock and soundproof rooms as well.
