I love this hotel. The views are out of this world, the staff are helpful and very friendly and the rooms are very spacious for Italy. We stayed in the sea view rooms and I couldn't recommend this room type more! The little village is only a 10 minute walk and has lovely restaurants and bars. If you want traditional Italian village this is the hotel […] for you. The only downside I had was being so far from sorrento itself but the hotel put on a shuttle service. This small hotel up in the mountains above Sorrento was an amazing find. It is traditionally furnished with tiled floors which made our room near the main staircase noisy at times. However, this is a minor point given the beautiful location and extremely helpful and friendly staff. The hotel benefits from a lovely swimming pool, which though not as […] large as the photographs suggest, is deep and well maintained. The included buffet breakfast was generous and tasty with fruit clearly picked fresh that morning. This and all other meals could be enjoyed on the extensive patio areas around the pool. A five minute walk took you to the local town offering plenty of eating options, We were glad we had a hire car as it is a 15 minute or so drive into Sorrento down narrow winding roads but other people were using buses to get around. This is a hotel to stay at and unwind rather than explore anything other than the Amalfi peninsula as travel on the busy winding roads is slow going (or at least it is in August). Les mer

We had a wonderful honeymoon at this hotel, It has gorgeous views, and lovely food but the most enjoyable thing about the hotel was the staff, they were simply amazing and made our week equally amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will definatly return in the future.

Hotel Hermitage is approx 15 mins drive from Sorrento, the shuttle service from the hotel runs frequently and if booked in advance, then no problems getting on it. The views are to die for and it is just a short walk away from the nearest village for several excellent restaurants. We ate at Don Alfonso's, look it up on the web, what a culinary experience! […] The Italians are passionate about their food, and every meal was a delight. The Hotel is lovely, the staff are exceptionally helpful. You didn't need a car, we caught a bus from the airport and back, shuttle took us to the bus station in Sorrento. Just ask! There are also regular trains to Naples, Pompeii etc. Ferries also run from Sorrento to Naples, wonderful tours around the Almalfie Coast. Everything is there, so accessible just ask the staff in the Hotel. One tip - organise your own trips, cheaper and more enjoyable, in our opinion. Also, make sure that you have booked the Hotel and not the Villa Roma. It's ok, rooms are clean and acceptable, but it is a bit of a walk from the hotel, not too far, but it has to be done several times a day! Only critisism, the beds are a little on the hard side, we would stay there again and certainly recommend it to fellow travellers. Les mer

A fantastic find! Location staff & hotel were all excellent! You have to get the bus into Sorrento but the hotel does a regular free shuttle so it's not a problem. We will definitely go back....

Staff very friendly. Good shuttle service into sorrento but quite far out so glad the town of st agatha was nearby in walking distance. Slightly old fashioned but staff made up for that with their fun friendly attitude. By standards in sorrento area hotel very good. Slightly annoying having to pay a tab and not pay for things up front as you could loose […] track of what you were buying and the tourist tax but guess it can't be avoided. Breakfast and snacks not great. Didn't try dinner so can't comment. Avoid getting taxis..they are very expensive. No need with the free shuttle although you must book it but there is also a bus stop outside. Advise a sea view room amazing views!! Les mer

very nice great breakfast buffet,but on its map it shows it as being 2.2 KMS from sorrento in reality it is 8 KMS from sorrento you are kind stuck in the middle of nowhere the little town of San Agate is nice though. they really should not say they are that close to sorrento when they are not

This hotel was almost perfect for my short stay in Sorrento. The staff where very friendly and eager to please. The location is not in Sorrento just outside but pay the extra and have a sea view ... WOW!!! The rooms were very well appointed just like the pictures however the bed was too hard for me but for others that might be good! The only negative […] I could give it that they run like many other hotels in and around Sorrento a free shuttle in and out of town but the last one is around 8pm so the other way back is by bus (this is ok but they have recently reduced there services so no late bus so I was told) or a taxi. However for what I paid I was extremely pleased and would be happy to stay again. One last thing, I only had breakfast so I can not comment on the evening meals but there was plenty of choice for breakfast and when anything ran low the topped it up so you didnt need to be at 7am when it opened to ensure you got something unlike mainly other hotels Ive been to in the past. The ocean view from our room was amazing, overlooking Sorrento and the surrounding towns. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful answering any questions we had. We thought this hotel was lovely. The staff were extremely helpful and always tried to go the extra to help us out. This hotel is up on the hill out of Sorrento. It is about a 20 min bus trip, but it is well worth it. We would definitely stay here again rather than in Sorrento. It is an easy short 5-10 min walk from St Agata, which is a lovely Italian […] village at the top of the hill. There were some great restaurants up there and we ate there every night. There is a lovely 30min walking path down to Sorrento that you must do at least once. This was one of the highlights for us after being in busy Rome. I wouldn't walk back up though. There is a SITA bus that stops right outside the hotel (although the first time you won't see the stop until it is too late - maybe ask the driver when you get on - we had to walk 1 stop back down the thin windy road). We found that the SITA busses were quite unreliable though and didn't run all services stated on the timetable. Ask the desk staff for recommendations on which services they think will run. Alternatively the hotel runs a free shuttle services quite a number of times a day. Overall - we would highly recommend staying here. Les mer

The room is old and needs some refurbishing. The elevator is really small. The location: Google maps showed that it's 2 km from Sorrento, when, in fact, there are about 7 kilometers. There is no free internet connection. If you decide to book this hotel, pay the extra price for a room with sea view and a terrace: it's really worth it. The set menu […] in the evening is OK if you're not too fussy: average quality at a price of EUR 20. Breakfast was good (also warm food, which is unusual for Italian hotels). Overall, we liked it, but it would be an unbeatable option if it were refurbished. Les mer

Overall very nice but 3 euros per night to use the room safe was a little steep. The traffic thru Sorrento was terrible. Took us an hour to get thru town( 2-3 km). There is a back way that avoids the town.

Once again, this hotel was top tier. My only recommendtation is that a more accurate description of the hotel's location, relative to Sorrento (train station) be more accurate. It's NOT .5 miles from the center of the City. It's 6 miles (20 minutes/50 Euros) from the center of the City. The hotel does however, (we found out afterwards) complementary […] shuttle service daily to the City Center. A bus line, with service to the City Center is just across the street and runs every 20 minutes (inexpensive). Again, very minor concerns, that can't detract from the quality of this hotel, its service and sheer beauty. I'd for sure recommend it! Les mer

Excellent, helpful and friendly customer service from all members of staff . Magnificent views across the bay from the pool and restaurant. The hotel is set high in the hills above Sorrento which means that you are reliant on the hotel bus service or the public bus. However, that worked very well for us. The hotel booked a taxi for us from and to Naples airport and we could also arrange a number of trips through the hotel. The staff were excellent and the food in the restaurant was wonderful […] - excellent quality with lots of choice. The pool area was very clean and we had amazing weather for the entire 2 week stay. we travelled with children and hadnt booked transfers,so finding the hotel gave us a few problems, but we took the bus from the airport to Sorrento tenEuros each, and then there is a bus via n. verde which is a couple of Euro which drops you right outside the hotel! had we known all that before it would have helped us. We were given a room in the villa […] romita behind the main hotel, which was fine although you hear everyone coming and going! the pool was alot smaller than we had expected but it was fine for the children, after 4pm the pool area is very shady though the views are stunning from hotel. the drinks in the hotel bar are expensive and you have to buy a bottle of water to get the cable to get the fridge on in your room! we ate in the restaurant only once for dinner, the food was ok, and breakfast is buffet style but nothing spectacular! the free transfer bus to and from the hotel to Sorento has to be booked the day before, and there is limited space on the minibus, so you need to book early, it runs around every hour, however there is also the local bus which runs every hour too.. the staff were friendly, the hotel is out of the way but all in all we enjoyed the trip, be prepared for lots of walking and take plenty of money and research the area Les mer

A bit far from everything - not good if you don't have a car. The hotel shuttle to Sorrento is great, but plan your trip ahead and book it the day before. We read a lot about the great service and room views but upon arrival were given the room with a view to absolutely nothing, even though we booked 4 months ahead the trip. The explanation was "I got […] your booking yesterday". However, upon complaining we were given the room with a side view, on the higher floor. Rooms are dissapointedly furnished, TVs are old and small, there's not enough light in the evening (4 bulbs x 20W I would say) - don't bother trying to read. But the bathroom is great! No problems with the room cleanliness. Breakfast is included and is pretty good, there's something for everyone. Great view from the restaurant and pool area. If you need a room safe, note that there is a fee for that (which we were not told upon giving us the key to the safe). Would not recommend staying at Villa Romita, it's dark and scary at night. Must go to the Da Mimi's Restaurant in the St Agatha; the city is a few minutes walk up the hill, past Villa Romita. Not quite sure if we would stay at this hotel again...but it is getting a questionable recommendation from us. Les mer

The Hermitage Hotel was what I expected, but I was disappointed to find we weren't staying there, but in an old villa some 5 minutes walk up hill. We were on the second floor with stair only access, so it was hard going. However, once over the initial disappointment and having to walk backwards and forwards to access the restaurant and hotel facilities, […] the good food and fantastic views compensated for the distance we had to walk. The hotel was in a pretty spot, but it was a good 15 minutes bus ride from the centre and the courtesy bus ran at random times during the day, making day trips difficult and time consuming. It would be beneficial to manage the travellers expectations and make them aware of what accommodation they were getting before they arrive. I didn't see any pictures of the accommodation in the villa and therefore expected to be in the main hotel depicted by the photographs advertised. I was told this was much more expensive, but there should be a clear distinction of the two different types of accommodation and the prices, to offer a choice. Just back from Grand Heritage S'Agata Sorrento, It is the perfect base to explore the area,At first i wasnt sure about not being in the center of Sorrento but i am so glad we were just outside as the traffic noise in Sorrento is very loud with all the mopeds ,The hotel runs a shuttle service into Sorrento and back all day so it is no problem getting […] around ,From Sorrento all areas can be reached ,Trains to Pompei,Herculaneum ,Naples and Boats to Capri ,Lots of buses going down the amalfi coast both public and private excursions.The hotel is beauiful with 4*service .They cant do enough for you.Orders were taken quickly in the restaurant and we never waited long for food.The menu offers for all tastes authentic Italien or steak , fries salald etc. You dont pay for anything till the end of the week so no need to keep your purse with you. The only problem we encountered was that because we were traveling in March, which is off-season, transportation into town was very difficult. The staff at the hotel were great; incredibly helpful, and they went out of their way to help us. The food was also good, and we happily ate there on two evenings. The only downside was the distance from the centre of Sorrento to the hotel. We jumped a taxi when we got to Sorrento, but were shocked when it cost us over 40 Euro to drive the 7km up the […] hill. Beautiful hotel with amazing views across the Bay of Naples. Booked on line - no problem. Paid with Visa card. The Villa is 2 minutes walk and is very comfortable with a sun terrace. The pool area was lovely - never a problem getting a sun lounger and we were there in August. Restaurant was lovely - ate on the terrace every evening - lovely to dress […] up a bit and food was excellent. Set menus and buffet hors 'd'oeuvres were great. Staff extremely polite and friendly - very helpful and spoke enough English. Family room was large with TV. Shuttle bus into Sorrento runs frequently and is free. Les mer

Lovely Hotel and good price, situiated in the hills above Sorrento about 10Kms away. Great vistas Hotel serves meals in evening for those that want it. Nice clean rooms, beds a bit hard. Difficult to get beds by the pool in high season as usually nabbed in the morning, so recommend you get your towels down Mostly Belgian, few French and a few German […] and English/Irish. Staff friendly and you have a tab run for meals pool bar snacks drinks etc and can settle by credit card. Nice pool on smallish side. Rooms have TV and wi fi is 5 euro for an hour. Free Carparking and we drove to St Agata village to eat and buy drinks. Could walk but roads are narrow. There is a hotel bus to Sorrento for a fee and picks up although only 10Kms away twisty hilside roads so takes time to get down Would recommend especially if you have a car Les mer

It was a very nice hotel however it was quite out of the way. It was definitely for travels with who had hired a car. I also found the staff to be quite snobby and as it was myself and a friend of mine (both two young 21 year old girls), the staff did not treat us as well as the other older customers. As part of a 2 and ½ week vacation of Austria and Italy, we had only a short stay, July 7/10 to July10/10 at the Grand Hotel Hermitage. We thoroughly enjoyed the quaintness of this hotel that is centrally located between Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. We had a lovely sea view room (a few Euros more but worth it) that was air conditioned and quite comfortable […] in the July heat. The twin beds were somewhat firmer than we were used to but we made do. A word of warning though, the hair dryers that were supplied in the two hotels where we stayed in Italy were much different than we're used to in North America. I would suggest you bring your own if possible. The buffet breakfast was included in our room rate and it had a good variety to satisfy just about anyone. As well, we had the option to eat indoors or outside on the patio by the pool. The pool had a marvellous view overlooking the city of Sorrento. The village of Sant' Agata sui due Golfi is just a short walking distance from this hotel and had some good shopping spots, especially for shoes. Many of the shops close during the afternoon so make sure you're out and about earlier in the day for shopping. We dined at the hotel one night and enjoyed two dinners in one of the local restaurants in Sant' Agata and walked to and from our hotel each night. The most notable part of our stay at the Grand Hotel Hermitage however is the quality of the staff. They were very accommodating and friendly. A special mention to the hotel manager, William, who went out of his way to help us with a difficult situation regarding our rental car. We had a mechanical problem and found ourselves stranded with no vehicle and he was instrumental in arranging a replacement and transportation to the Naples airport to pick up another rental car. We do not speak any Italian and without his help our ordeal would have been much worse. We would highly recommend this hotel to visitors to the Sorrento area and I’m sure they will enjoy their stay. The hotel was located high above the ocean with spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. The location has its pros and cons. It was very difficult to find, but well worth it after we arrived. The room was very nice and clean, but the beds were hard as a rock! I would return to the hotel, but without children.

Hotel very nice but you need to be fit and able to do the hill walking required especially if you are not in the main hotel but allocated to the separate villa. There are no lifts and after a long day you may well struggle if elderly or slightly infirm.

Comfortable place to stay. Was a bit difficult to find, as hotel is marked on wrong place in Navtec maps, both in tripadvisor and navigator. I would recommend to check. The private path (or more or less well lit road) to St.Agata was good. Shuttle to Sorrento worked also well, parking by hotel was available. Television very small and outdated, even […] if many channels available. A/C not quite powerful enough for +35 degrees temperatures. Internet not available in rooms, only in lobby and one corner of balcony. Breakfast could use some variation during full week. For example fresh fruit would be available at low cost for fruit salads instead of tinned, naturally needing a bit of work in kitchen. Still all in all we enjoyed or stay because of very helpful and friendly staff, location, nice room and views. Enough sunbeds, even if many guests reserve them with towels hours before they come to pool. Hotel could consider removing towels from empty chairs, if no-one comes in many hours. Dinner food not best price/quality ratio, but easy to get in St Agata to eat. Les mer

Villa Romita is via een steile weg te bereiken vanaf grand hotel Hermitage. De wandeling is hooguit 5 minuten. Villa is netjes, kamers zijn voldoende groot en schoon. Bedden zijn te hard. Mooi balkon en prachtig uitzicht. Ontbijt standaard en erg eenzijdig. Zwembad gelegen bij het grand hotel. Voldoende omvang en genoeg ligbedden waarvan sommige wel […] aan vervanging toe zijn. Afstand tot Sorrento 20 minuten, Napels 1 uur 15. Vanuit het hotel kun je in 5 minuten naar St Agatha lopen waar voldoende restaurants zijn (inclusief 2* Don Alfonso) Les mer

Jättetrevlig personal, vackert beläget, underbar utsikt, idyllisk och fin miljö (trädgård med pool mm). Lite minus för de hårda sängarna på rummet och något små rum. Helt ok frukost. Borde också satsa mer på tillgången till Wifi (så att man kan använda den på rummen också). I övrigt anser jag att WiFi ska ingå i hotellets pris (här tog man extra be […] talt). Les mer
