"Gangavstand fra Broadway"Anmeldt av en hotels.com-gjest den mai 7, 2012
Svært fornøyd med oppholdet på hotellet , meget serviceminded personell , god frokost , mulig litt støy i spisesalen , men helt grei mat. Svært hyggelige og imøtekommende personell , både i skranken , og butikken eller han som satte vekk bagasjen. Lett å få tidlig innsjekking og sen utsjekking . Alt i alt , meget bra. Savnet minibar på rommet eller i alle fall et kjøleskap , men ellers var det ismaskin i gangen. Selv i New York var det mulig å få et stille rom.
"På Time Square nær alt"Anmeldt av en hotels.com-gjest den mai 7, 2012
Familie med to tenåringsdøtre. Fantastisk beliggenhet, flott service og komfortable rom. Suite Prestige med to dobble senger.
Veldig bra opphold over 4 dager. Frokosten var grei nok. Vår datter på 15 var veldig fornøyd. Veldig god service i resepsjonen. Egen turistinformasjon som kunne gi mange tips til aktiviteter. Vi kommer gjerne igjen.

Flott!
"Desmond Tutu - great affordable place to stay"
The hotel is a beautiful old building, the rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. The hotel is on 10th ave so its quiet and accesible. The concierge was so nice and friendly and i love the neighborhood. I was shocked this place was so nice for such an affordable price. I plan to stay here all the time.
"Desmond Tutu Center - Worth it!"
Pricey, but what isn't in NYC? The Center is in a beautiful building in a nice neighborhood. We had our largest room yet in a New York hotel, and the staff was extremely courteous and helpful. An excellent choice.
"The Desmond Tutu Center in Chelsea, NYC"
We were delighted with everything about the place. The room was newer, and in perfect condition. The price was very reasonable, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It is not a typical NYC hotel experience. It is in the meat packing district, which is a little off the beaten path. But it served our needs on this trip to the city. The […] building itself is only five floors high, and there seemed to be very few rooms, which made for a quiet, inn-like experience. There is no valet parking, but it was not necessary, as there is a public garage directly across the street. The overnight parking rate was $31.00. We're used to paying $45 - $55 in Manhattan. Overall, a very nice experience, and we are looking forward to staying there again. Les mer

"No Housekeeping"
Disappointed with the service that I received from the hotel. Stayed for two nights but housekeeping never came to make beds or replace linens. Contacted front desk when returned to room for second night and they stated that they would send up housekeeping -- housekeeping never showed up. When leaving later that night for dinner, I once again told the […] front desk that housekeeping had not come and they immediately asked me if I left the do not distrub sign on the door, which I did not. However, when I did return from dinner, there were towels in a bag on the door. When I checked out, I once again stated that housekeeping never came and the woman write down my name and room number for the manager. I am very disappointed that management did not make any accomodations or contact me. Les mer
"Desmond Tutu Hotel"
Great place to stay in Chealsea. 1 block from the High Line, 1 block from Chealsea market. The staff was very friendly and even though we were on the first floor it was very quiet. The room furnishings (bedding etc...) were very comfortable, although the carpet and wall were showing their age with scuffs and marks. Would deff stay here again.
"Excellent!"
the staff was wonderful, our room was terrific. I will stay there again and again!!!
"Beautiful hotel, great Sunday price!"

"Fantastic stay at the Desmond Tutu Center"
What a find! I would have never thought to stay here but for finding it on this website and all the great reviews. The inside has been completely renovated. Rooms are large and new. Plus, it's in a great location -- safe and close to the happening restaurant and bar areas.
"Great hotel"
Very friendly & helpful staff. Nice quiet hotel. Good location although its about a 10 minute walk to the closest subway. Even after I checked out they still looked after my bags for the day. Highline is across the street. Definitely recommend.
"Suprised"
I was skeptical about going to an off name Hotel. However I was very pleased with the whole experience and they even upgraded my room at no extra cost. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
"Desmond Tutu- my new favorite"
Loved this place! The rooms are a bit small if you're used to airport hotels, but was perfect for my needs which was to visit the city, not lounge in my room for my whole vacation. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious and clean and the charm of this hotel was outstanding. Located ont he grounds of a seminary, it provided the calmness […] sought after a day of sight-seeing. The High Line park is right across the street and is mere blocks from the subway stations and the Chelsea we've all come to love Les mer
"Desmund tutu"
It was a great location and very comfortable. Would definately stay there again
"Great Midtown Manhattan Hotel"
Comfortable walk to 111 8th datacenter, quiet location, and close to some great restuarants. Staff was very helpful, and professional. I did enjoy this hotel because it is an oasis of tranquility in the bustling city. Definite future stays and recommendations to anyone who (like myself) wanted a hotel as a refuge after work.
"Tutu Center"
Having lived in the NY-NJ_CO area for 7 years, I returned this labor day to NYC for the first time as a tourist and staying at the Tutu center was a real pleasure. They had ax excellent location, wlkable to Chelsea Market and Chelsea Piers and Metro was not to far away. They had large rooms and fantastic toiletries. The front desk staff was the friendliest. The […] only downside would be that the bath-tub is not what you would get in a hotel of this price. The beautiful buildings are old and charming and they did not have jacuzzi tubs then! But overall extremely satisfied and will stay there again if I visit NYC! Les mer
"A real gem in New York"
Previously accomodations of General Theological Seminary, the Tutu Center is a real gem of a hotel. The room was huge -- particularly by Manhattan standards. Our room had a beautiful original fireplace mantel. The add-ons were excellent, particularly the inclusion of bathrobes. And the hotel comes with access to the lovely tranquil courtyard of the […] Seminary, an escape from frenetic New York. Highly recommended. Les mer

"An excellent place to stay near Chelsea & Highline"
This is a conference center/hotel and very very nice. Lovely rooms in a refurbished older 5story building, very quiet and comfortable, nice patio/garden sitting area in back and close to galleries and restaurants in Chelsea and across the street from the beautifully created promenade on the old Highline train tracks.
"Small room, but everything else was great"
Clean, cool, quiet...friendly service! My only complaint was the size of my room. From the pictures they look spacious, but not all rooms are the same size. My room was advertised as a single queen bed. We got one full bed (no big deal) but the room was barely big enough to fit a bed and some furniture without bumping into everything as you try to walk […] around. I had to put the desk chair in the enormous-by-comparison bathroom and put my suitcase on that so I wouldn't trip over it! I wouldn't even have thought much about it, being in NYC, and all rooms are small-ish...but I reserved 4 additional rooms for a family gathering and all the other rooms were what I was expecting for size. Their rooms were great, and we didn't do anything in our room except sleep, so not really a big deal. It was worth it for the location, cleanliness and service. Les mer
"Unusual setup but I liked it"
It feels like you are going to a convent or conference center, but the rooms are quite nice and normal, the neighborhood is now a good one.

Great, comfortable, quiet hotel. I loved the location (very convenient for transportation) and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The rooms were very spacious for the value and I would definitely stay there again.
"Perfect location on Westside"
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Although the room was a bit small (but not unusual for NYC) it was very clean and most comfortable. The new Highline walking path and access to the westside park and development are just outside the door! We travel a lot and stay at 4 star resorts but this stay was one of our most enjoyable.
"Desmond Tutu Center Hotel in Chelsea, New York"
I was drawn to the hotel because of it's eco-friendliness but I fell in love with the beauty of the room and the location. I was greated very warmly upon my arrival. Check in was quick and I was given a room upgrade without even asking. While checking in I was offered a lovely cup of mint (fresh mint leaves) flavored cold water. Did I mention I was […] visiting the weekend of July 23rd (NY heat wave). Everyone was friendly and helpful, making sure I had water with me when I went out on my morning runs and a fresh clean wash cloth to mop of my sweat when I went out shopping in the afternoon heat. The location is awesome. The hotel is just 1 block from the Highline Park and 2 blocks from the Hudson River Waterfront Park. It's also close to many shops and a few subway stops from 34th Street with Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and Macy's. So you can enjoy easy access to the sites and still have the quiet, peace and green landscape near the hotel. Les mer
"A Special Fourth"
The Center was an excellent oasis of quiet during the Fourth of July celebration at The Hudson. A clean, well appointed room with a fabulous bed with comfortable linens. A great shower with warm water and great "green" lotions and soaps. A friendly and smiling staff who actually seem to like people. I would stay here in a heartbeat again as the center […] is great and the surrounding area is very interesting. Next time we will stay longer. We will come back again for sure Les mer

"walking distance to Chelsea Pier for conference"
Truly had an enjoyable experience this past weekend. Rooms were spacious, staff was extremely courteous. Just an FYI: parking garage is directly across the street- very reasonable by NYC standards. Amazing restaurants and cafes within blocks. Will definitely return.
"The Desmond TuTu Center"
This is a great hotel in a fabulous location in Manhattan. There is plenty to do and to see. Loved the environment. Nice big rooms! A rarity in Manhattan for a reasonable price.
"pleasant surprise-desmond tutu center, new york"
When i first saw the name and the picture of the center i had no idea what to think. It's location in chelsea is what I wanted and the usual place I stay at was booked for the Saturday night in June. So I took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. The Center is part of an old seminary that has a beautiful courtyard and church attached to it. I actually […] took a little nap in this green haven. The room itself was updated and clean, although the ac was not the coldest. we were lucky it was cool that day in new york. It was a little stuffy in the room but i was able to open a window to get some fresh air. It took a little long to get some ice from the front desk but overall i would stay there again. Les mer
"Excellent"
My wife and I live in the City. However, to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, I wanted to treat my wife to a night out (while the grandparents stayed home to watch our one year old twins). The hotel was perfectly situated near top restaurants, good bars, as well as right across the street from the High Line. Upon arriving, we were upgraded to a […] junior suite overlooking the courtyard. The room was extremely clean and very large -- it had two walk-in closets (not that we needed them). Even without the upgrade, the hotel is an unbelievable value. The only negative was the drain-stop in the bathroom sink was stuck, so it filled with water. All in all, the hotel was excellent, and I would definitely recommend it. Les mer
"The Desmond Tutu Centre in New York - a find."
We have just returned from our visit to New York, having stayed at the Desmond Tutu Centre. The accommodation was simple, but excellent. The guest rooms are part of an old seminary. While it does not offer any catering it is a comfortable and gracious hotel. The staff were very pleasant and obliging. Most of all it provided very clean and comfortable […] accommodation. In the context of New York, our room was spacious - large enough to feel at ease, and to regard the hotel as a restful haven after a busy day exploring New York. Les mer
"Very nice place"
We spent one night and were extremely satisfied. There is no cafe or restaurant, however there is plenty of nice places to eat out around
"Very nice hotel--just a bit out of the way"
Great room (large by NYC standards), good bathroom, pleasant service. Only drawback is that 10th Avenue is off the beaten path. Two long blocks to the 8th Avenue subway. Fine if the weather cooperates and you're a good walker. Otherwise, might be happier in a more central location. But the area around the hotel has restaurants, Chelsea Market, High […] Line--so there are things to do nearby. Les mer
"Unexpected gem"
This hotel is a recently refurbished housing for a seminary. Large rooms, vaulted ceilings, modern furnishing with Victoriana fittings. Not much of a lobby. Free wireless. Good value for money.
"Off the beaten path"
Definitely not the most convenient location but what the hotel lacks in location, it makes up in comfort, size and price. Personally I liked the location... it's on the edge of Chelsea in a very quiet neighborhood. I just don't think it's ideal for most people. My room was large (much larger than most NY hotel rooms) and I even had a huge walk-in closet. […] It is also across the street from the hi line which is a very nice touch. I will definitely stay here again when in town for business. Les mer

"Loved it"
If you love Chelsea this is a great place. A little noisy on the 10th ave side. Next time I'll go for the courtyard.
"Very Pleasant, Relaxing Stay"
I enjoyed my stay at the Desmond Tutu Center. It's not too far from Midtown by cab. No typical amenities, like room service or a gym, but the highline (elevated park, very cool, check it out) is nearby for a run. Also, chelsea piers has plenty of athletic things you can do, and it's a 10 minute walk away. The room I had was very small and cozy, but […] also very pleasant. The hotel is peaceful. It's on the gorgeous grounds of the General Theological Seminary. I wandered through the garden in the morning before my meetings. It was a nice contrast from the hustle an bustle of NYC. I recommend this hotel as a quiet place to stay, but don't expect a lot of frills. Les mer
"Desmond Tutu Center - calm in Chelsea"
Who could not enjoy staying here - the service feels personal, the neighborhood is delightful and the garden an oasis of calm. Little touches make it feel like home: fruit, free wifi, iron and board, newspapers. Don't miss Murray's on 9th Avenue for great bagels and other deli treats!
"Desmon Tutu Center- a hidden gem"
Excellent staff and the room was better than other hotels more than twice the price. A little secret that will hopefully remain for my next visit. Great surrounding area, if you can ask for a room to the rear of the property away from the traffic noise!
"Another wonderful stay at The Desmond Tuto center"
We enjoyed another wonderful stay at the Desmond Tuto Center. We had an appointment across from the Chelsea Market, so this was quite convenient for us. Although it's a bit off the beaten path if you wish to see the popular sites of New York City, we walked 4 blocks to the subway and were two stops away from all the action. There are two parking facilities […] right across the street too which is VERY convenient. So although it's not right in the heart of things, I felt very safe and comfortable there. Upon check in we were upgraded to a bigger room. We were traveling with a 4 year old and the room we were originally booked in only had one bed. (my mistake) The room (#212) was beautiful with lots of room, a large bathroom, and two closets. The staff was wonderful, and went above and beyond to make us comfortable, or to give us directions or suggestions on restaurants. The last time we stayed here they had a fabulous breakfast in a spectacular hall and we were greatly looking forward to that again this time, however we learned that they no longer serve breakfast. We were disappointed to learn that and wish they would bring that back. Our beds were super comfy, but I still had a bit of trouble sleeping due to the street noise. They happened to be paving the street the night we were there so that was to blame. (I live at the end of a dead end in the sticks, so I usually notice ANY car that turns down my street...... so you have to take this with a grain of salt.) It is by no means a super busy street and there certainly isn't nightclubs with loud music or crowds of loud people running around. I certainly would stay here again. The staff was wonderful, our room was great, and the parking was easy and stress free. Les mer
"Great Hotel and location in Chelsea"
It was great!!!
Great hotel for a great price. Really nice room and comfortable bed - perfect in all ways except for one small thing - the front rooms that look out on 10th are a little loud with traffic. But still overall a great experience.

"Desmond Tutu Center: Who Knew?"
Great Location. Really nice room. Great bed, nice sheets, towels & bath robes. Would definitely stay again
"Fantastic Stay"
I thought this hotel was great, a nice, clean, friendly place to sleep after long days exploring the city. I have no complaints at all, and would not hesitate to stay there again. The service was very efficient and friendly, it's no-frills but who's hanging out in there hotel room while they're in New York? The area is great, really charming, lots of […] places to walk to. There are some great vegan options in the neighborhood, including Blossom, Blossom Du Jour, Cocoa V, Murray's bagels has some tofu cream cheese options and the best bagels ever...soy milk available for your coffee available there and most other places as well. Quick cab from Penn Station, about $6, and about $10 cab ride to Times Square depending on traffic. When the weather is nice, you can walk everywhere. Les mer
