The Palmyra, a Solis Resort & Spa - Montego Bay

My concerns were put to rest once I pulled up to the property...it was beautiful. Previous problems cited about A/C and hot water must have been resolved because we didn't have a problem. Guest elevator and poolside hot tub were still out of order, but that didn't dampen the experience. We used service elevator and enjoyed the beautiful sea....simply […] wonderful. Pool was empty everyday...few guests made for a relaxing stay. Women should feel safe to travel here alone. Those needing peace and quiet should book immediately. We used the kitchen daily, so I can't comment on the hotel food. One day we got sandwiches for lunch from the cafe, they were acceptable but nothing great (very little meat on them). We were able to secure a blender to make frozen drinks, but I wouldn't count on that being available. You have to request almost everthing you want in the room (dish liquid, pots and pans, laundry detergent), but we were accommodated quickly. The hotel had difficulty making change, so make sure you bring your own small bills. Tipping goes a long way here!...the staff were very appreciative. Bed was very comfortable. Flat screens in living room and bedroom. Music (not sure if it was a live band or not but is sounded like it) could be heard from my balcony and it sounded great....instrumental contemporary jazz! I love this resort, had breakfast and dinner, FOOD was excellent... Going back SOON!!!

We were aware that at the time of booking (special rates were available) we would also benefit from an upgrade. On arrival to the upgraded suite we got a beach view we got a two bedroom with guest bathroom, lovely living room/dining/kitchen area. Absolutely fantastic. Will definately go back again.

we stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel is pretty great views and our room was great.. we had 3 problems though during our stay. NO AC, NO HOT WATER so freezing showers, no baths, no hot water in hot tub outside, and the whole hotel didnt have ac or hot water it wasnt just our room it was the whole place. 3rd issue was that i called two weeks in advance […] for a blender to be put in our room since there was a kitchen and we wanted to make drinks. called again a few days before coming to verify everything and told blender was taken care of.. we get there no blender in room and didnt receive one until the 2nd night of stay after calling at least 10 times.. told ac and water would be working again and it never did. i almost got sick one night at dinner from being so over heated. since no ac we had to keep windows open and all the bugs kept coming in so it wasnt a win win situation at all.. we would come back if ac and hot water were fixed but since there are so many stories and lies being told when asked these questions i wouldnt be 100% if it was truly fixed or not :(... hopefully they fix it and we might come back Les mer

My room was very nice. It had an excellent ocean view and was very modern and spacious. However it is completely unacceptable for a hotel that advertises "luxury" or any hotel in this day and age, to not have AC and hot water for four days. I think that they are having financial difficulty and they are trying to save on operational expenses. The lack […] of these amenities and the weak excuses that the staff were given to tell the guests contributed to ruining my four day experience. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone until they get their financial and maintenance act together. Les mer

Great potential but a lot to be desired. Air conditioning was down most of our six days, no hot water for 3 days. electricity was sometimes off for short period of time. Restaurant food overpriced, for example french fries were $6.00. But extremely beautiful place with lovely beach, not too crowded, and lovely rooms with high end fixtures and appliances: […] luxurious towels, comfortable beds, Even though there was much to be desired, the staff was very responsive and kind. The operations manager, Sophia, was very helpful. This could be a really wonderful place to stay if they got the maintenance issues solved. Les mer

This is a wonderful property with a friendly efficient staff.

Hotel is beautiful. We got a great deal and an upgrade to a one bedroom suite so it was fantastic value. The restaurants are expensive on site and the menus are not very extensive but there are a number of restaurants nearby. Taxis are Approx $30 for a 15/20 minute journey which discourages venturing too far most nights... Be wary of the guys driving […] the complementary bus on site as we got ripped off by one of them called 'Ron'. All in all a quiet hotel right on the beach perfect for a few days of total relaxation. This resort was very nice but VERY isolated from the outside world. Don't stay here unless you plan on getting a rental car so you can escape from time to time. Also, grocery shopping before hand is recommended...as selection of food/restaurants is limited and coffee/sandwich/convenience store is only open from 9-5...so early morning coffee can't be […] found. That said...very luxurious rooms, very friendly staff, very private beach and very relaxing in general. Just not a lot to do...and without a rental car, you'll feel trapped. While staying here, I felt like I was in a Caribbean version of Stephen King's "The Shining"...without full access to the kitchen and garden maze. Les mer
