Can't commend staff enough. We arrived from LA early in the morning sleep deprived and with a cold coming on. They had our room with a comfortable bed, ensuite and air conditioning ready by around 8.30am. We slept on and off the whole day and were human enough to have dinner and watch to kava ceremony that evening.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Smuggler's for eight days for our anniversary. We stayed in an Ocean View Window apartment, located within the newer of two buildings, and though we could only see a sliver of the beach over another hotel, the sunrise was amazing. The room was comfortable, and daily cleaning form room service kept it presentable. The staff […] were very friendly, and gladly helped me surprise my girlfriend on our anniversary day by decking our room out in flowers. I wanted to stay near the beach, and Wailaulau did not disappoint. The beach has black sand, which seemed exotic to the golden beaches of Australia. The bay is extremely calm, and shallow meaning you can walk a hundred meters into the water and still be able to stand. This was perfect for less confident swimmers like my girlfriend. The food was spectacular and the drink was superb, with well made yet cheap cocktails and even cheaper beer. The service was good, albeit at "Fiji Time". "Fiji Time" is a nation wide event where service is slower than normal, there is no escaping it. At first I had difficulty adapting to it, but after a few days I really started to enjoy the more laid back lifestyle. The package breakfasts consisted of toast, cereal and orange juice, which was perfect for a quick bite as we headed to our early morning tour pick ups. We booked all our tours at the tour desk, and the staff there were really helpful. Pro tip: ask for to be put in the 'newer' building. We would definitely go again! Les mer

We stayed a family of 2 kids and 2 adults, staff are happy and helpful, room air conditioners are very good, had fridge/freezer, safe, own bathroom ensuite, microwave and cooking utensils. Restaurant had yummy food and well prepared.

I stayed for a few nights at this hotel. I was a bit disappointed with my room as I had requested a room in the new building (at the suggestion of an earlier reviewer) but was not given one. When I asked to be switched there were no alternatives available. The view from my room was right into the window of a new room and they looked quite nice, particularly […] the bedding. My room was fine, just not great. The rest of the place is really lovely though. I really liked the vibe of the outdoor space (patio leading to the beach) and the restaurant. The food was pretty good and I watched a fire show one night which was really great. I had a massage at the spa which was really lovely. This place seems best suited to backpackers and I would definitely go back again but would be sure to follow up to confirm a room in the new building. Les mer

This was the third time I've stayed here but there were special circumstances as we were experiencing a cyclone (Evan) by the end of it so this doesn't seem fair to include what happened then. I stayed in November 2011 and April 2012 but this trip in Dec 2012 there were certain changes for the worse (even before the cyclone). People would come round […] in the early hours with a clip board checking people were in the right beds. People were charged if they put their bags on other beds (even momentarily) and sometimes A/C was turned off at 5am, 6am, 7am and even 8am when we paid to be in air conditioned rooms and the check out is 10am (it's off all day in any case). When questioned they said it was because I was on my own (when people checked out early to go to the islands). The fact that 5 people had paid but left early seemed not to be a factor. The food was the other area of contention. It's always been very expensive for a backpacker and most of us go across the road to Bamboo for 1/3 to 1/2 the price food. Even Travellers and Aquarius is half the price of Smugglers. This time I sent back a pizza which was soggy and cold and had a raw onion on it (no apologies from cooks) and heard at least 10 other pizza stories the same over the course of 12 days. I also sent back a tuna sandwich (2 bits of stale bread, only tuna with no mayonnaise/salad, and the amount of tuna in each section was less than a teaspoon) At bamboo I'd received 6 toasties for same price. I had a great time at smuggler. It is clean and the staffs are friendly and funny. not only that, for those people who need activities and restaurants advices can relay on smuggler. Stayed her for two week and LOVED it!! the rooms are a good size, they have tvs', fridge and kettel. the bathr room was also to a high standare, howevwr on some mornings there was only cold water. Was good connections between the port and the hotel. Except there was only two buses a day. One at 12 one at 6. If you took your time getting your luggage from the boat, then you'd be waiting around. The hotel was quite vibrant, lots of young back packer types. Our room was adequate, except for a ghastly smell when we first entered. The fridge was […] also not on, which we discovered when we put a bottle of water in at night. You're not told when you book, you have to pay a $20 deposit. Unsure if it'll affect anyone on a tight budget. The food was average and quite expensive for what you got. Breakfast is woeful at best. You get the basics, toast, cereal, tea. A far cry from the 'continental' as advertised when I booked. If you order something for breakfast, it takes an age to get it! Dinner staff were friendly! They charge for internet, which is a joke, especially as most of their customers are backpackers. $4 for half hour. Across the road, at Bamboo Bar, internet is free, their food is cheaper and much nicer. We found ourselves there more than at the hotel. They make an effort to entertain those who're less willing to leave the premises.... Cava night was fun, especially as the musicians they'd brought in were quite good. Don't believe a word the 24 taxi rank people say. If you're waiting to be picked up, talk to reception. Not them. They'll tell you it'd left! If you have to stay in Nadi for a night, this could be the place. But I doubt it'd return to be honest. Les mer

A great base for Turtle Airways seaplane - not luxurious but does the job well. We simply wanted a place within striking distance of our seaplane transfer to the remote island of Nacula in the Yasawas. The Wednesday night Fire dance demonstration was incredible. On the beach you may be approached by a man who strikes up a friendly conversation and before […] you know it you are sipping a coconut and need to find some money to pay for it! Still a cheap enough experience - about F$5, but free on the islands if you ask nicely. The beach is black sand and there is no snorkelling to write home about just off shore. I was here in November last year and loved it and the staff so much that I returned again as soon as I got the chance. The staff that were there last year all remembered me and my friends by name and all of the details of the previous trip - amazing. I was pleasantly impressed with the hotel as it was right on the beach. The water was a bit grey so would not swim in it, but they had a swimming pool which was small but lovely and a spa included.Unfortunately bad weather set in and we were stuck inside for a couple of days. An army truck took us to the airport where we had to stay for 2 nights waiting for a plane to get us out. This is a good hotel and location for relaxing and doing very little. It has a beach, a pool, a bar, and a restaurant - what more can you ask for on a travel budget? It is predominately used by young back-packing tourists in transit for other destinations. Had a great time. Room was nice. Free breakfast worth every penny--orange-colored water, instant coffee, white bread, and pre-sweetened porridge--didn't bother after the first morning. The restaurant and bar were overpriced, but there were several places within two minutes walk that were half the price. I was here just for 2 days and it was pouring rain the hotel and we couldn't even go to town due to the flooding, so all there was to do was hang at the resort, it was a ton of fun, the staff was amazing, so sweet and welcoming, they each remembered my name after 1 time, they invited me to drink kava with them after work. Staff very helpful. Showers were a bit dodgy - either no hot water or very little water coming out. Meal at restaurant was good and Wednesday night show is very good. My boyfriend and I stayed at Smugglers for a quick one night only before our flight back home. Location-wise it was about 15mins taxi ride from Nadi airport, and not very long into town. The service at reception was friendly and timely with no troubles with our booking. Our room and bathroom was clean and tidy. There was a little bit of smell from the […] toilet (even though it was white and spotless) but a slide of the bathroom door solved the problem. The double bed was also made up of two single beds pushed together but we didn't mind it at all. On with the other areas...Have to say the full body massage was AWESOME and great value! Nice relaxing beach area, happy with the free all-you-can-eat breakfast, a nice area to lie down on their seats along the beach. From this one-nighter we have decided to stay here again if we're in Nadi next time, compared to our expensive stay in the luxury resorts (where we can do the same thing but pay double as much). We stayed in an oceanview room for 5 nights, the room is clean and housekeep on a daily basis. There are staff constantly cleaning and tidying up around the property. Front of house staff are friendly and have a great sense of humour. Travel desk advisors are helpful, they went extra mile to ensure I get to do the things I wanted to do, gave very good […] advice and helped plan the rainy day activities. Restaurant services is is of high standard, delicious food, thou can be a bit pricy. Overall, their customer services is beyond my expectation, felt like a VIP. I will stay there again. The resort is on the beach and have dive shop, surf shop offer equipments, lessons and tours, so much in one place. I must mention they have in-house show twice a week, a must see event. At the hotel when I wanted to book the drop-off the staff was unfriendly and tolk me that they never provide this service. This place was exactly what my friends and I wanted when we stayed in Fiji. We didn't have a lot of time to explore so we just stayed in a cheap dorm style room, there are 34 beds and not a ton of privacy but it worked perfectly for us.

I did exspect a lot more, because i thought that it also gonna be like a hotel and not just a hostel. But the staff didn't even care about us, they forgot orders or didn't take them, they couldn't help with problems and were just unfriendly all the time! I chose Smugglers Cove for its convenience - shuttle from the airport 15 mins - and its cheapness. My wife's heart sank when we arrived and she could have cried when the lack of apparent privacy of a dorm struck her. but it was perfectly fine and there were no problems. She was impressed that the staff were constantly keeping the whole place clean all […] the time. The staff were always helpful - we had a 10pm flight out of Fiji but had lock up luggage facilities and availability to the showers even though we had to be out of the dorm at 10am and stayed the rest of the day there. We in fact stayed twice, once on the way from LAX to Australia and on the way back. a google search shows it not near the beach it is in fact right on the beach. Slight warning about the sea there can be tiny lice creatures that bite in the sea. but the chlorine in the pool all though not noticable kills these creatures. Les mer

The reception services were good. The Continental breakfast was boring as everyday was the same. The room I booked was not suitable and had to downgrade to another room. The room was next the the canteen exhaust and was very noisy. We were bitten by "bed Bugs" the first two nights before being moved to another room. Overall I could only rate the hotel […] at the low end of the satisfaction as I have not had experience with other hotels in the locale with similar rates. Compare the rates and quality with an Australian hotel / motel, this one has a lot of work to do. May be it only suits some younger persons who only like the beach, yet the beach was not clean. Transport was ok as there were always taxi waiting outside, however the fixed rate of travel to locale short distance away compared to the "meter" rate offered in Suva is not compatible. Les mer

We had 4 nights in Savusavu on the next largest island and then back to Nadi to Smugglers for 4 nights. Rohit is the manager and he was extremely pleased to see us back again and made sure that we were looked after. They were there to meet us when we got off the plane and took us by their small bus to the hotel. It is a popular place for young ones […] (backpackers) and they are all well behaved. Our accommodation was upstairs and had private facilities, air con, TV, balcony, fridge etc. It is right on the water and there are activities to do each day which is run by the hotel staff. There are many island tours and day trips to do which can be organised at the excursion desk. We enjoyed dining at the various restaurants located within each surrounding resort, the food at Smugglers is of very high quality and comes with a great choice. You can get the local bus for about $!.20 (fiji) into the township if you want to shop, there is a small shop within the resort and a small supermarket within walking distance from the hotel. All in all a lovely relaxing place to stay with a light breakfast included in the tariff. We really feel at home there, hence our intention to return again next year. With the Australian dollar so strong, this is a very affordable holiday and only 4 hours away by plane. Les mer

Booked at this location for convience,close to Nadi and Lotoka wanted something central.It was a nice spot right on the beach which we were after. Just OK. On the beach but water is murky, location is convenient for the airport so fine if you have to overnight. Since the shuttle from the airport never showed up, you can get a taxi for $10 FJ, they offered the shuttle back to airport but that did not work out either and they eventually sent me in a taxi. A budget hotel.

Smugglers was awesome. The staff were absolutely wonderful and friendly and made sure you were always smiling and enjoying your stay. The food was quite good too though a little bit on the pricey side, but, definitely enjoyable all the same! The hotel staff were very helpful in setting up sightseeing trips to the other islands and were definitely […] well advised when helping us choose the perfect day trip! We only had a minor issue one evening with a sleepwalker who urinated all over the floor and it took the night time staff over an hour to clean it up. Definitely stay at Smugglers! The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. It is RIGHT on the beach. This seems like a good place to go for college kids or backpackers looking for a cheap night sleep. It is right next to a few other backpacker hotels and there were lots of young kids hanging out when we arrived. I stayed in a "junior suite" and it honestly reminded […] me of a Mexican prison cell. There were bars on the windows and the view was of the front driveway, with people constantly coming in and out. The doors to the room and bathroom were SWING DOORS (the kind you see in industrial kitchens!) and I was afraid to go into the bathroom without flip flops on. The room basically had a bed, tv, and sink with the bathroom just a swing door away. Although it was a little dark and dingy looking, it seemed clean. The next day, however, as I was packing up to leave a giant cockroach crawled out from under the bed. GIANT. I was horrified. I peeked into the dorm room and it actually seemed to be nicer than my "junior suite". The dorms had ikea style modern furniture. I might have had a better night's sleep in there! I hung out on the back patio the rest of the time I was there. The food was okay (bowling alley style pizza) and they had good prices on beer. The staff seemed nice enough, although they sent us to a restaurant that was a complete nightmare and horrible recommendation. I don't know. I wouldn't want anyone I cared about staying here! I'm glad I was only there for one night, I couldn't get out of there fast enough! Les mer

Everything was great, no complaints except one night there was a sleep walker in the dorm who urinated on the floor and it took about 45 minutes before a staff member finally cleaned it up (after we had asked twice).
