Nanford Guest House - Oxford

Hotellet var i meget dårlig forfatning. Fikk et rom som var nyoppusset, men det bar ikke preg av dette. I halve taket var det fortsatt umalt grovmur. I den andre halvdelen hang gammel maling og dinglet. Håndkledet var fillete og med flere hull. Hull i gardinene var det også. Når andre brukte toalettet/dusjen på sine rom, ble det mye støy på rommet der […] jeg bodde. Kunne ikke høre TV-en da. Første kveld kom det veldig kloakklukt på rommet hver gang noen dusjet. Tappet vann i dusjen. Sannsynligvis var vannlåsen gått tørr. Fikk renhold første dag, men ikke etterpå. Madrassen var veldig hard og fjærene stakk i kroppen. Beliggenheten var ok. Hotellet hadde inkl. frokost. Tv på rommet og eget bad, men standarden var veldig dårlig. Måtte le av det hele. Vil ikke anbefale dette til noen andre. Man får det en betaler for. Les mer

Draught in the room given. Much attention should be on maintance

The hostel is a bit old and you need to check in before 10pm. The carpark will be locked if u come back late! Breakfast finsihed at 9am but the helper was very good and still serve us even we late. The hostel in convenience as the next week with supermarket and restaurant. But you still need to walk around 20 mins to the oxford city center.

it was conveniently located close to the centre of town and was cheap - but i have been to other places that were central and cheaper. i would not book this hotel ever again. upon entering the hotel, one is greeted with the strong stench of the carpet (food and grease), coupled with the unwelcoming staff. the "reception" area is a sub-basement, dark […] and dusty room. the floors were creaky, rooms tiny, paint peeling, compact bathroom. we didn't eat breakfast there. walls were paper-thing with conversations, footsteps and other 'activities' echoing throughout the building. Only stayed here as it was cheap and convenient. The room felt like student halls. There was a strong smell of cooking and grease in the main buiding, luckily we were placed in an adjacent building, but it put us off having breakfast so we left early.

Bit of a doss house.

I give this 4 stars because it's a good location and so cheap!! Great value for money. It is pretty run down but that didn't bother us for one night, everything was clean and functional. Efficient service but the breakfast let it down. Maybe do toast and cook more to order.

The room had paper-thin walls, where you could hear just a normal conversation from any other, ditto anyone walking up and down the very noisy stairs! The design of the bathroom was dreadful... how anyone could comfortably sit on that toilet seat (with the wall right in front of the toilet) was beyond me... very badly done. The shower was antiquated […] and involved pure guesswork in finding any remotely-decent temperature. Also, when I came back from town in the evening, one of the other 'guests' opened their door and the stench of weed floated out. And she was absolutely stoned. Then, from about 1pm there was some hullabaloo outside in the corridor, some bloke stomping up and down the stairs for what seemed like 30minutes jangling keys. And then someone actually tried to unlock the door of the bedroom, thinking it was 'empty'. A ridiculous price for an absolute dump of a sty, places like this should be shut down. No peace or quiet possible for even 2 minutes due to the wafer-thin walls. Just awful. Les mer

I hate to be critical but i really don't see why this guest house gets 3 stars. It was smelly, appeared dirty and we didn't risk having breakfast. On a positive note the staff we pleasant and helpful, it is well located and whilst the rooms were sub standard they were warm and tidied every day.....

Great location near centre of Oxford.Clean room friendly staff great breakfast.Good value for money.Building just needs some tlc.

Small but satisfactory for a shower and sleep. Could've stayed more than one night, no longer than 2. Still a little out of central. Good advantage a bus stop was outside the front.

The hotel was a short walk from rhe city centre and was cheap.Breakfast was good and included in the price. The staff were friendly and sheets and towels clean. But the shower was too dirty to use due to the room needing repainting/ repairing Had the shower been up to standard we would have rcommended the B and B

The Guest House is very convinient to local shops, pubs and resturants I found it a great place to be in Oxford. The maintinance to the room I stayed in is tearable, leaking shower, drafty window can hear every sound outside but for the price it will do.

My stay at the Nanford - two nights - was satisfactory. I wanted a bed and a breakfast near to Oxford centre, and this was provided at a reasonable rate. Comfortable and accessible.

Your have to have lots of humour, if you want to stay there, otherwise you risk to rise your stresslevel dangerously.

Regret to say we cannot recommend this guest house. We provisionally booked for two nights. When we arrived, we had only a short time before we were due at a function, so although we were immensely depressed by the dilapidation of the rooms we were shown, we paid for one night, as we felt we were unlikely to find another room at such short notice. Hotel was run down but clean and comfortable. Our family room was good, but some of the other rooms were small and poky. Breakfast was ok and the service was polite and helpful. We had a big room (no 7) at the top front. The street was noisy at night but the room was good. The bathroom was small and pretty run down, but clean and good shower. The downstairs […] reception area and back yard was grubby and dirty, but the public guest areas were fine. It's close to the centre of town, and Cowley street with shops and cafes -it's cheap-I've stayed in much better for the price, but the location is good and It had rooms when everywhere else was booked. The hotel is very run down, staff extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. Cleanliness is OK, but standard of equipment is appaling. If you can help it, find somewhere else

Not comfortable

As a tradesman I work all over the country and have stayed in some not very nice hotels, but this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival we were told that our room as in the 'other house'.The room was disgusting with plaster falling of the walls above the 'ensuite' which in itself was unbelievable. It was so bad that my workmate and […] I would not use the shower. One that I would never stay in again and actually contemplated reporting it to the local council health inspector. Would not even go in as it was really tatty outside with lots of stray cats rummaging through bins . Don't bother it's awful

12 to 15 minutes' walk from central Oxford and 8 to frequent bus to city, so convenient location. Facilities fairly basic, and whoel house needs redecorating and some maintenance. Breakfast adequate, table service pleasant and efficient. Proprietor a man of few words, but not rude. Strong cat-smell in basement reception/office, but remainder of house […] OK. If you are prepared to slum it, this place is fantastically located near central Oxford. Warning - Don't eat breakfast we didn't even attempt it, feral cats all over the place and in the kitchen and its really grotty. Outside as well as the feral cats, are discarded washing machines, window panes and general junk it does resemble a tip It has obviously […] never been refurbished or maintained, the decor and furnishings are like a 1960's bedsit - so if you're expecting 1-2 star forget it! To be fair the towels, although threadbare, and the bed linen, all mismatched probably from a jumble sale, were extremely clean. The bathroom was also clean but not very appealing, ripped lino on the floors, stained sagging ceiling and generally old and in need of updating. If all you need is a cheap bed for the night and don't want to spend any time in your room it's ideal, cheaper than a hostel. But if you want a place to relax and enjoy breakfast this is not the place for you. I went with a friend and she was horrified at the state of the place, so I think I've been generous considering! I choose this guest house because of its location to the city centre and it provided free parking. I knew it would be a bit of a dump before I booked but I proceeded anyway. My room was better tahn expected. The bed was fine and clean. The ensuite was pretty basic. The common areas are pretty dingy and the reception area smelt of urine. The breakfast […] was very good and so were the breakfast staff. The guy that I paid had no personality what so ever. The car park is basically a dirty yard but it can take maybe 10 cars at most. Holes in walls, tears in curtains/bed lining, dirty grime in shower, cat licking food on kitchen work area. It is fair to say this is cheap & convinient place to stay though I would have rather camped!!!!!

Although not the most flash place to stay the Nanford was an easy 5 minute walk into central Oxford and all the sights. Rooms were clean and ok for a short stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. No problems staying there again.

I have never reviewed a stay before now, I hope people reading this will make the decison to look elsewhere. From the moment I stepped into the reception I had a bad feeling. The smell of Cat Urine was so strong and right next to the Kitchen. The place was filthy and looked so unhygenic. I thought to my self, no way i'll be having Breakfast in the morning! […] Made payment and was led out of the building to a house 2 doors down, it was really badly decorated and dirty! Room basic with a small ikea bed barely off the floor with an old TV that only had a few working buttons! Shower en suite didn't have a door which meant the room wasn't dark as the window had no blind to block the light out. Had a shocking night's sleep as the bloke in the next house was playing his music all night and shouting and making a racket. At about 4 in the morning someone outside was shouting and swearing for about ten minutes. This was the worst night I have ever spent and the place is an absolute disgrace! Quite a reasonable place for the price but starting to show signs of getting run down. Proprietor could do with a personality upgrade.

from moment of arrival we felt uncomfortable guy answering door was surly and rude, the room was decrepit,, carpet was unhoovered, lino was just placed on top of whatver was underneath not fitted, wardrobe was fastened with wire coathanger, door was fitted with 2 locks but only 1 worked, furniture was old , damp and dirty looking, shower head was missing […] and water just dribbled out, complementary toiletries were supermarket value antibacterial soap, tea bags were open and who knows how long they had been there if there had been an alternative hotel we would have left immediately, did not eat or drink there .... absolutely disgusting. friendly helpful owner , nice staff. clean bedding but was blankets not and sheets not a quilt just different. The shower mixer was DIY job and it didnt work ie you could either have very hot or cold .. needs attention . The ariel of tv was broke but worked eventually. stopped two nights .Just thought it was a bit scruffy but ok if you are used to budget traveling. Got up second morning and my wife had over 50 bites all over her body. The doctor thought they were possibly bed bug bites and advised us to call environmental health. We complained to the hotel manager but he just ignored us

The facilities are basic and somewhat spartan but considering the cost and the location it is good value for money. Breakfast excellent.

Stayed the bank holiday weekend in Nanford Guest House in Oxford and I must say it was OK for the price. After I read some of the reviews and when I saw the reception I felt uneasy as the reception indeed looks very shabby and smelly, but when I was shown my room I felt relieved as it was cosy for the price and clean. Of course it's not a Sheraton or […] Hayatt but for the price for 1 or 2 nights... I had all the basics I needed, the bed was comfy and the shower worked, tea making facilities, and the TV had I believe 5 channels, not only one as somebody had written. Perhaps not all rooms are so good and I was just lucky. The breakfast area is also quite nice and the traditional full English was quite good too. I would recommend it to anyone who simply seeks a budget B&B. Within a walkable distance to the city centre too. Les mer

The hotel could definitely use a face lift. That said, it is actually in Oxford & they let us leave the car there the next day so we could walk around & explore. The room was clean enough, the breakfast was very nice. It is in a really old building & it is definitely run down.

The standard of the Nanford Guest House is the lowest standard I have ever witnessed. The room we had looked as it had not been cleaned properly for quite some time, it was like if they had just changed the bedlinen and left out some towels. The guest house was of a sub-standard condition. Although the bed linen was clean the overall standard of the room and the guest house was very poor indeed. Staff not pleasant. The only plus side that it was near enough to walk into Oxford so no need to use the car. Would not recommend it.

My best friend and I visited with my two kids. The owner was very rude to her on two separate occasions. As soon as we arrived, he insisted on payment. We barely had time to unpack before he knocked on the door, again asking for payment. We later discovered that this is because he is accustomed to patrons leaving immediately! No refund! The rooms were […] filfthy. I first noticed when I turned down the bed and there was something crusty and nasty on the sheets. The floors have not been vacumed in quite a while. There were several types of bugs crawling in my children's room. We left the next morning, even though we were reserved for another night. Even the cab drivers knew about this B&B and its reputation. I was hoping that this experience was going to be more like a B&B. However, it felt more like a spare room and bathroom you might find listed on Craigslist. It wasn't even really like a Hostel because I think I only saw one other guest. The location was okay. Note that the map we printed with our booking confirmation shows the location as being much […] closer to town. In actuality, it was just past James St. on Iffley Rd. There was a bus stop right in front of the place, which was convenient, but it was not a terrible walk to downtown. In fact, we were able to walk to most of the sights (Magdalen College, Christ Church, Oxford Museum, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford Castle, etc etc) and back to the guest house within 5 hours. Essentially, if all you need is a place to sleep, then by all means, it does the job. Just make sure you pack some disinfecting wipes--I cannot vouch for the sanitization of the place. They did offer breakfast and free unlimited WiFi, which is more than I can say for other (more expensive) places we stayed on our trip. If I could offer any advise to the management of the guest house: the place has a LOT of potential. A little paint and some Pine Sol would go a long way! Les mer

Terribly run down, furniture broken, mattress very uncomfortable, TV had one chanel, light in bathroom didn't work during the night. Breakfast room so bad we couldn't eat our breakfast there. Parking in back surrounded by junk.

This hotel is quite adequate and comfortable for a short stay and provided all the facilities I needed. I did not use the Wifi or car parking but it is close to the city sights and can easily be accessed by car, or bus from the station. Breakfast was good and well presented. Room was small but adequate, with shower and comfortable bed, and was cosy […] when I returned on a cold wet night. Golvet lutade i rummet, det var kallt och fuktigt och omöjligt att mörklägga. Sängen saknade bäddmadrass och lät mycket högt om man rörde sig och under den låg en bräda med spikar som stack upp, det rörde sig om ett familjerum. Receptionen luktade illa och var rörig. l’hôtel est vétuste mais très bien situé. Petit déjeuner copieux, accueil du serveur très chaleureux, un bon séjour. Prix en rapport avec la qualité de l’hôtel. Cela va bien pour dormir.

Die Durchschnittsbewertung von 2,2 trifft ziemlich genau die Qualität des Hotels. Positiv zu sagen ist, dass das Frühstück gut war, man konnte zwischen English Breakfast, Toast, Cornflakes etc. wählen oder frei kombinieren. Das Hotel selbst ist nicht dreckig, auch die Zimmer sind sauber, ein Wasserkocher, Teetassen und Tee stehen zur Verfügung. Das […] Zentrum ist in 20 min. zu Fuß erreichbar. Es gibt auch kostenlos W-Lan. Negativ ist der Geruch nach Katzenklo im Hotel und auf den Gängen, in den Zimmern ist er erträglich. Für den deutschen Geschmack sind die Zimmer und vor allem das Bad extrem klein, wobei in England alle Häuser und Räume im Miniformat sind. Ebenfalls typisch englisch, aber für uns unangenehm, sind die getrennten Wasserhähne beim Waschbecken. Entweder man verbrüht sich mit fast kochendem Wasser, oder man spürt beim kalten Wasser seine Hände fast nicht mehr. Eine Mischtemperatur ist unmöglich. Gott sei Dank geht das bei der Dusche schon, wobei das Bad, die Toilette und der Fußboden im Zimmer nie geputzt wurden. Die Handtücher sind als und löchrig und anhand mancher Aufschriften wohl aus anderen Hotels zusammengeklaut. Gewechselt wurden sie auf Nachfrage. Allgemein ist alles im Hotel sehr alt und es gibt nie ein einheitliches Set. Die Bettwäsche ist für jedes Teil unterschiedlich, Tassen und Untertassen stammen aus verschiedenen Services, von den Handtüchern ganz zu schweigen. Aber das nur nebensächlich. Von vielen wird der günstige Preis gelobt. Wir fanden das für die Qualität nicht günstig, aber offenbar gibt es in England (Oxford als auch London) wirklich nicht viel preiswertere Alternativen. Letztendlich waren wir nur zum Schlafen und zum Frühstück im Hotel und konnten damit leben. Deswegen empfehlen wir es auch weiter. Ein Luxushotel ist es aber sicherlich nicht, soll ja auch keines darstellen. Einige Tage oder eine Woche ist jedenfalls darin auszuhalten. Les mer

Ett prisvärt hotell med bra läge (en kort promenad till Oxfords centrum). Receptionen är förvisso anskrämligt dammig och ineffektiv, men utöver det uppfyller själva rummen baskraven med egen toalett, dusch och TV. Något slitna handdukar och lakan, men i gengäld byttes de väldigt ofta. Det är inget lyxhotell och därmed inte ett val för de kräsna. För […] den som är prismedveten och nöjer sig med det enkla är det ett bra val. Nära till St Clements busshållplats, där bussarna till och från London och flygplatsen stannar. Stort plus för gratis WiFi, trevlig personal, ordentlig frukost. Har man särskilda önskemål om frukosten var det bara att säga till. Les mer

Vi fik tildelt et værelse, hvor ventilatoren i badeværelset ikke fungerede, og hvor loftet derfor skallede. Det var dog ikke det værste, en stor del af ydervæggen og hele vinduesrammen var jordslået, så hvis man f.eks. var astmatiker, ville dette værelse være en "dødsfælde". Der var 4 senge i værelset, og derfor kunne man ikke komme ind i garderobeskabet […] - den ene seng spærrede simpelthen for adgangen! Der er dog god internetforbindelse. Hôtel vraiment très modeste dans ses prestations, le lavabo est un lave-mains et la cuvette des WC barre le passage de la douche qui elle-même ne fonctionne pas... Tout cela justifiant sans doute son prix très modique.
