EL TORO MOTEL - San Luis Obispo

Staff very friendly. Don't request the smoking room: looks 3rd world. Very close to attractions. It was OK but the freeway traffic was annoying.

very basic, rusted rotting shower, broken coathanger jammed int he window to keep it shut, the door had been obviously broken into a number of times. I wouldn't feel safe leaving anything in the room here or taking a shower without flip flops on. But the location was pretty good. a bit too close to the freeway, we could hear it, but just a 10min walk […] to downtown SLO which is why we stayed here. It worked ok, but I was very happy to leave and wouldn't recommend it. Les mer

If you're looking for a place to sleep and don't care about appearances then this may be fine. If you plan to spend time relaxing in the room the. You may want to look elsewhere. The outside appearance of the hotel is unkept and looks run down. The room is clean but old and outdated. Floors were creaking and felt like it could break. Bathroom was aged […] and the window wouldn't lock. Tv signal was fuzy and not clear. Bed was comfortable and firm. Room had fridge and microwave. Hotel is five blocks from downtown so its a five minute walk, no taxi needed. The owner was nice but he came out in white undershirt and it appeared that I woke him up from his attached house. If they would spend a little time cleaning up the outside and updating the rooms then this place would have been fine. As it stands, I would be embarrassed to bring a date or wife here. It just has cheap written all it. I recommend it for those looking for a place to sleep only. I don't recommend it as a multi night place to stay if you frequently plan to be back and forth from your room and town with your date. If you have a date then spend the extra 20-40 bucks for something better. Les mer

I didn't know what to expect from this place but I was pleasantly surprised. The room could've been cleaner but I mainly found dirt in the corners of the room. The staff was nice and everything worked in the room. I would stay here again.

I would not stay there again. It's old and run down, nice area but very poor condition. No coffee in room, I thought that was standard in hotels.

very convenient to Cal Poly. Overall appearance - rundown. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was bare bones and needed renovation. Housekeeping forgot our room so beds were not made and towels were not replaced. However, owner/manager did bring towels over when we told him. For the price in the area, this hotel should have had a bit more attention to the basics. The bed was clean and comfy, the room had good fresh air access through a high bathroom window, there was plenty of room and lighting, the fridge and microwave were nice, as was the wide screen tv. But...the low and high areas were thick with dust, the internet […] code was not offered up until asked for on day 2, the towels were due to be replaced, a hook or towel rack was needed for wet things or a robe etc. The shower faucet handles leaked like a sieve, and the sink and faucet were either dirty or so aged that they looked dirty. There is a lot of potential for vintage charm at this place, but it is lost to defferred maintenance. Les mer

The sole purpose for our trip to San Luis was for apartment hunting for school this fall. Being on a tight budget, this motel was right where I needed it to be both in location and price. The accommodations were: basic but the room was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and walking distance (.5mi) to downtown Higuera St. one way or a park/gas station/Jack […] in the Box the other direction. The staff asked while I was passing by if we needed our bed made/fresh towels, but since we were only staying 1 more night, I didn't feel it necessary to waste time/energy to do all that, so I happily decline the maid service (I did not see a "do not disturb" sign in our room). The location is RIGHT NEXT to HWY 101, but from inside the room it wasn't noisy at all. Although, because the street it's on is the outlet for an offramp, be on the lookout for fast moving vehicles coming off the highway when your entering/exiting the motel parking lot. Les mer
