"inexpensive...an odd smell."
Our recent stay was a standard experience on an economy room. The room was sufficiently clean and comfortable but there was an odd smell that made you ask "what is that?" but it wasn't so offensive that we couldn't be in the room. The floors squeaked which was audible from the neighboring rooms. Conversations were easily heard through the walls as were […] the constant shutting of car doors and traffic. For an economy room with a few friends, I would stay here again but if I were on business or on a romantic getaway, I would go elsewhere. Les mer

Excellent service. The weather had turned cold and we requested that the furnace to be lite and they were right there to light it. Decent continental breakfast.

This motel is older. It has outside entrances to all units. The units are kind of small but the rooms are very clean and have been remodeled. The owners and staff are very pleasant and helpful. It isn't the "Ritz" but the price is right. I would stay there again.

The negative reviews i read about this place all said the same things: It lacked extras. This is one of the most affordable places to stay anywhere near Bozeman, it is conveniently located well within walking distance of downtown, and it is rated as a two star. This is exactly what you get. You get a spotless room, that is always cleaned on time, helpful […] staff, a quiet nights sleep, and lots of great attractions and food very very close. If you are looking for a 5 star suit in the penthouse, you are looking in the wrong place. If you want a comfortable, no frills, night or weekend in a great, affordable place of lodging, this is one of the best and the price can't be beat. Les mer

"Just OK"
Bathroom was dated. Room was cold. Bed was OK. TV was old and the remote did not work. I got what I paid for. a bed and a shower.
Room was worth the price, but there are nicer rooms in the area at similar rates. We booked late.

We arrived at the hotel after a 10 hour day of driving. We were beat! We had book our room through Hotels.com; we were traveling with two dogs so a pet friendly hotel was a must. When we got there the lady at the counter was very rude to my wife, "You didn't call to tell us about the pets?! Our site says you have to call!" After she huffed and puffed […] she got us a room. I felt bad since we didn't make the call. Then I looked up their website. No where on there does it say you must call to announce a pet when booking a room. The3 lady was clearly having a bad day and didnt need to take it out on us. As far as the rooms go, if you dont mind the people who rent rooms a week at a time and pull the curtains back to watch you walk by, then you should be good! Les mer

The hotel manager, Frank, was extremely helpful and went out of his way to accomodate my extra requests. Was refreshing to see hot coffee and juice, milk and donuts. A two star rating is way below what should be bumped up. Will recommend this hotel and I will be staying there again.

The room stunk. We were going to stay for a few nights but had trouble sleeping because of the smell. So we changed loctions.
Wife and I were driving from Portland to Fond Du Lac, WI and this was our stop for the night. The owner/manager was on site and was VERY friendly and talkative. "Very basic, but good enough."
Seriously, about the most basic hotel setting I've seen. The room was small but I only needed a spot to crash overnight. This is an old-school motel with rooms that open to the outside of the building, though that doesn't seem to be an issue in Bozeman. My only issue was that the room lacked an iron & ironing board--fortunately I had ironed the clothes […] needing such before I travled to Bozeman and the wrinkles were few enough to live with for a day. "Nice stay"
Motel is nice and clean. I was just staying for a night while passing through, so I didn't need the room to be any bigger. Mattress was firm, but that's my preference. Fulfilled all of my expectations.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Rainbow motel. It's obviously not a Hilton so don't go in expecting one but the rooms are clean, the guy at the front desk is courteous and friendly, and they provide coffee, fruit and pastries for breakfast. They also have things like shampoo, razors, toothpaste etc. at the front desk if you need any of that. And the […] price is inexpensive too. That is really all I need from a motel. the Rainbow motel in bozeman was a nice place to stay. room was very clean, well lit, the room had a good wireless internet connection. TV worked good, and there were no sign of bugs. although the motel and pool were next to a semi-major road, there was no traffic noise inside the room. the air cond. worked great cooling the place. The outdoor pool […] was heated, and very nice and clean. Hotel staff (maybe the owner) was VERY nice. his morning free contintal breakfast was also OK, with a nice spread of donuts,coffee, juice (apple/orange) and milk and cearal, and lots of fresh fruit. the only downfall was that they did not provide shampoo in the room. Although they do have a large basket in the lobey with free items, rasors, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, and some free packs of shampoo.. so all in all the shampoo worked out. I would rate this a Nice 1.5 to 2 star hotel. again Very clean, and very frendly staff. I would not give it a second thought about staying here again. Les mer

The Rainbow Motel is old and shabby. Although the owner is nice enough, this does not make up for the quality of the motel itself or the paltry breakfast offerings. The carpets are worn and frayed. The walls are unadorned concrete blocks. The air conditioner in the room was ancient. The pillows were paper thin. This motel should have been de-commissioned […] years ago. "Hotel Condition"
You can notice instantly that the owner doesn't want to spend a dime in maintaining the hotel. One of the rooms smelled gas and even that they knew it they don’t do anything about it. It doesn’t look or feel clean at all. The swimming pool is very small. Rates are also high compared to what you expect for the price.

It was a quaint hotel. The room was adequate with two queen size beds, just what we asked for along with a television (older model but it worked). No microwave and no refrigerator, just a place to sleep for the night. Had plenty of towels. The swimming pool was a bit small but then again, we only used it to cool off from the heat of the day. We were pleasantly surprised to find this inexpensive motel had been renovated. Even the walls were new. Only the bathtub is original. We had a comfortable overnight stay.

"Rainbow charges at an undeserved premium"
Conveniently located close to campus and reasonably close to downtown, but not the most comfortable of neighborhoods, yet the place charges rates as if it were downtown. Not all rooms have kitchenettes, mine didn't. I was charged over $20 extra for my kids, 13 months and 3 years, and my dog. ($7/child, and $10 for dog). The beds were not very comfortable […] and local police dropped off drunks at least twice during the night. I will avoid in the future. There are other modestly priced hotels of significantly higher quality (Western Heritage). In hindsight, I really wish I would have found a place for my dog and stayed at a different hotel. This is the kind of place where usually price is a redeeming quality, instead I got blindsided with fees. In the end, the place had no redeeming qualities. Les mer
"Stark, economical - a true value"
The Rainbow Motel is literally nestled in the heart of Bozeman. It is a reasonably good location, it is a short walk (less than 1/2 mile) to a grocery store and a little less than a mile to restaurants. Keep in mind Bozeman has one cab company. As for the hotel it is pretty bear bones, no amenities or special features - just a room, bed and bathroom. […] The staff, probably not the most friendly but helpful in a basic kind of way. The room was relatively clean, the bed cover was a bit warn and stained but the other linen was clean. The TV was a bit dated, almost nostalgic, (I remember when TV's used to be that small). In the end the Rainbow was a good buy, inexpensive and relatively clean. I could live without all the frills - I was only there one night it was what I needed. Les mer

"terrible nights sleep"
Please invest in some decent pillows. All of us slept terrible. The other guests were outside our room talking until 1 am keeping us all up. My suggestion....Pay a little more for a better nights sleep.
"Overpaid for location and condition"
We stayed at this motel on the last day of our trip. We wanted a location close to the Bozeman airport and the only available location within close range was this motel. there was no one at the reception desk when we arrived and had to wait 15 minutes before someone showed up. She was very nice, but hotel conditions were very poor but pretty clean. […] We traveled with another couple and on their door the listed price for the room was about half of what we actually paid. The motel was really noisy and we all had a very uncomfortable night. People occupying the room next to ours kept flushing their toilet and it sounded like a thunder in our room. Les mer
"Simple but comfortable"
Very clean! Not many amenities, although the wireless internet was great! No refrigerator or microwave No shampoo, conditioner, or lotion for the bathroom. Continental breakfast with coffee, donuts, and fruit. There were a few loud people in front of the hotel on the weekend, but not too bad. The staff were very nice. I would stay there again.

"Rainbow Motel, good value in convenient location"
Rooms are well maintained, definitely a cut above the average drive-up motel room. The experience could be improved significantly with the change of pillows (they were synthetic, large types that give some neck aches). Its location is very convenient, just 5 minutes from the town's lovely main strip.

The rainbow motel is an inexpensinve and decent place to stay. The rooms are clean and the owner is very friendly. I would book this place on a return trip.

Definitely a no frills. Very noisy if you stay on 1st story of 2 story section. For one night it would be fine but not for extended stay.
