Oriental Bund Hotel - Shanghai

Jeg har bodd på mange hotell rundt om i ShangHai, men dette var noe av det greieste stedet jeg har ligget. Om et hotell ligger sentralt, er avhengig av hva du skal og hva du forventer. Alltid under min besøk i ShangHai, besøker jeg på kveldstid og i helgene bl.a. Yu Yuan Garden med mange muligheter til handel og bespisning. Et typisk turist sted, men […] en fin opplevelse og ta med seg. Yu Yuan ligger 3 min å gå fra hotellet. Til tekstil markedet er det bare ne 15 min taxi tur og til Cheep Road 20 min taxi tur. Ingen store greier for en by som ShangHai. Avstanden til PuDong exhibition var også helt akseptabelt, en 30 til 45 min taxi tur avhengig av trafikken. I utgangspunktet var det litt overraskende med resepsjonen i 8 etasje og hotellet i etasjene over. Men hadde ingen praktisk betydning. Frokosten var veldig kurrant, en blanding av flere kulturer - bl.a. europeisk og kinesisk. Foretrekker selv kinesisk i Kina og hadde derfor satt pris på en større lokalt innsalg. Les mer

location is good.very clean.but the carpet is old.smoking everywhere not good. a lot of food downstair .to eat. bed is firm .i love it.

Definitely an interesting establishment but one worth considering. Upsides, really relate to price value and location to one of the ,ore interesting areas of the city. Downsides for those who expect luxury would be size of room, necessity to walk some distance to train system, restaurant in hotel and most importantly the almost total failure of staff […] to understand/speak English (this includes check-in) Having mentioned the above it is an hotel which serves its purpose of providing a comfortable bed and somewhere to freshen up --- so for those who intend to only use the hotel for limited times during the day it is one that should be looked at. The hotel location is great, next door to Yuyuan Garden and walking distance to Nanjing Road. Hotel breakfast was great and yummy, and had a variety of options.

I couldn't have asked for a better room for the price. The bed was clean and comfortable, but the shower was a little small. When the internet wouldn't work, the staff gave us a wireless router for our stay. Nearly everyone at the front desk was prompt and more than helpful. The hotel is close (5-10 minutes walk) to the subway station and the Bund, and is also nearby the Yu Garden. Though the hotel entrance is at a side street rather than in the main road, and that the first few floors of the building the hotel is located are for retail/wholesale of the garment-accessories, the place is quite decent. Hotel lobby is on 8/F, […] and rooms are on floors above it. The room I was in was comfortable, though only Chinese tea-bags were provided in the room. This hotel is across the street from the Yu Yuan Shopping area and garden, and within working distance to many restaurants. The hotel is accessed from a small street off the main Renming Rd, and the hotel lobby is on the 8th floor. The bell hop in the lobby will help order a cab for you but will cost additional 4 RMB in addition to the standard cab […] fare starting at 14 RMB. The hotel is about 30 mins cab ride from the Shanghai Train station, and right across the river from Pudong's large shopping area around the Pearl (think look out tower cross between John Hancock Bldg in Chicago and Seattle Needle). The breakfast included with our stay is good but usually cold. For some reason the hotel has a hard time keeping food hot in the warmers. Great coffee and tea and probably the only really hot liquid at breakfast! For first time visitors to Shanghai, the bund and this hotel is about a 45 min cab ride from the Pudong Airport without traffic and costs us 173 RMB. The other Shanghai airport in HongQiao is across town and about an hour away. Be prepared for terrible traffic in Shanghai. Les mer

For who want to be close to the famous venues of Shanghai, this hotel will be reasonable choice. However, better not to expect nice facilities, cozy atmosphere near the hotel, it's kind of tour sites; close to bund and yuyuan.

Would stay in a superior room as the have windows out to the city instead of the indoor courtyard. Large spacious room with a small desk for work, only draw back was that the shower was over a bath. Breakfast is not much for a westerner so I did not bother with it even thou i had it included. Location is a bit off unless you like the temple tourist […] trap. Still close to everything and taxi is so cheap. Word of advise between 17:30 - 19:00 taxis is a rare unless you are happy to pay premium. Would definitely stay again! Les mer

The hotel is an annex to a rather old commercial complex but once inside it's much better than expected. Location is convenience (<10min walk to subway) and breakfast is good for this price range.

The location of hotel is good as it close to most of MUST SEE sights. However, if you wish to have like hotel staffs treatment especially in the restaurant, then you got to accept the fact that very low standard of service is provided! You have to take yr own fork & spoon, breakfast hardly fill up when finish; got to eat whatever left there; no need […] to angry over what you have paid for hotel & it services! That's China and Shanghai local hotel standard! Which my family felt so bad that the standard is way behind 4 Stars! For sure we will not choose such a hotel again or recommend to anyone who want to feel comfortable when staying in a hotel. Les mer

price to location is worth it...

Oriental Bund is a 4.5 star hotel, and it certainly feels like so. The rooms and service are of a high standard. However, the location is too far from the Metro, and the only place of interest it is near is Yu Garden and Cheng Huang Temple. Although it is located on the bund, it is actually located on the farther side of the Bund. A walk to the nearest […] Metro (Yu Yuan) is about 10 mins. Not very convenient. Les mer

The hotel is in an absolutely fantastic location. It is within 4-5 blocks of the Bund and literally right across the street from Yuyuan Garden market area. Yuyuan Garden is an area full of traditional Chinese looking shops, as well as some "famous" restuarants (if you define famous as a place where Bill & Hillary Clinton, Fidel Castro and other world […] leaders have eaten). You can get all of your souvenir shopping done in this market area, or most will be able to. Further, it also has Starbucks, DQ, KFC and McDonalds if you need an American-style junk food fix. This is a nice, modern hotel which is located 20 minutes walk from the center of the tourist area. If you are fine with saving some money and having an off center location this hotel is a good option.

This was a great Hotel in great location. It is across the street from the Yuyuan Garden shopping and dining area and only a few blocks from the Bund boardwalk. I would strongly recomment this hotel for both english speaking and other foreign travelers. Buffet breakfast was good. The hotel staff does not speak English. There is no communication between any departments in the hotel. So if you are expecting on receiving a letter or parcel do not reply on the hotel letting you know it arrived. It is very disorganization. The rooms are not cleaned thoroughly, even though they are decent rooms you can see piles of dust accumulated […] on the carpet corners and there are bugs in the hotel. Very professional Staff, helpfull business desk that help us with tours and train tickets, one of the best breakfast buffet at shangai and beijing. Definetly i will recomend this hotel. The only recomendation its to have all your adresses write in chinesse before take any taxi.

Outside of it being tricky to find...Great bang for the dollar..breakfast could be a little better from the western side but it was acceptable....Looking for a bargain...this is your place !

A difficult hotel to find if driving - the hotel car park has no signs for foreigners so you don't know where the reception is. Hotels,com provided free breakfast - but hotel staff did not believe me - I had to show the original email from Hotels,com Biggest problem is the 24 hour operation of a construction site next door - jackhammers, pipes dropping, […] hammers, men shouting, machinery operating - not a good nights sleep. This is a good hotel and the location is very good. It is right in the centre of Shanghai. Very good breakfast.

A wonderful location with a fair size room. Great breakfast buffet, which also functions as a restaurant for lunch and evening. We ordered the room for 2 adults and 2 kids, which was a little crowded - there were 2 double beds in the room. Overall we were very happy with the service, upkeep and location of the hotel.

The Hotel is just average Hotel.service is quite pool, specially morning check out it takes long time. same breakfast buffer is pool service. also smoking almost everywhere. I would not stay there again.

very convenient for yuyuan gardens, but most taxi drivers dont know where the hotel is, or only know it by its chinese name, which would have been helpful to have prior to checkin. facilities fine, but you will sleep on a very firm/ hard bed!

This is a very nice hotel, with decent-sized and pleasantly decorated rooms, very good breakfast buffet and helpful staff. And all that for a very VERY decent price. The location of Oriental Bund is also very good and convenient: literally few dozens of metres from the beautiful Yuyuan garden and the market, and a five-minute walk from the Yuyuan Gardens […] subway station. The Bund and the beautiful Shanghai skyline are a ten-minute walk away, too. I would totally recommend this hotel. Les mer

Strange hotel. Checked in, was told I had an upgrade to a river view room. The room actually had a view of the large construction site that ran 6am-11pm with heavy machinery. The Oriental Bund Hotel is a perfect three star hotel. It had the right price in a great location (near a subway stop between the Bund and Yuwuan Garden), it had a great Chinese and Western breakfast, and it provided a comfortable, well-kept room.

Very clean Hotel and centrally located to Yu Yuan Gardens. The garden area great for shopping. Bargaining is fun. Also, the traditional Architectural buildings are beautiful. English speaking is difficult sometimes, but hotel staff will write in Chinise, where you want to go and you give it to taxi driver.. Clean rooms but I wouldn't call it 4 star, good location and good staff.

Excellent location near to very important sites, nice and comfortable rooms and acceptable breakfast that is included in the fare. The only negative aspect is the annoying smell of cigarette smoke everywhere.

Wonderful hotel; clean, large rooms, very convenient to the Bund and old town, great value. Recommend highly for anyone.

Really impressed with this place. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds, large desk with cable internet, wall mounted TV's, and awesome bathrooms. Room service is cheap by western standards, so I recommend treating yourself once. The location can't be beat, you can literally see the hotel from the Bund. Honestly, it's the best way to find this place. […] If you approach it from any other angle it's super difficult to find. Little far from transit for my comfort, but you can still get the East Nanjing Road stop (that's a major one) in about 10-15 minutes walking. I think this place has changed names like three times, which is the only frustrating thing. The name on the hotel that you see from the Bund is actually "Xingyu Hotel," and I also saw some stuff with "Donglai Hotel" on it. Les mer

Toilet blocked one nite, reception not very fluent, very rude housekeeping man that refused to give me towels. He barged in and started poking his face in my luggage as if to say i stole the towels! Plus- near shopping district, Shanghai tower ferry within wlaking distance. Staff courteus and helpful but have a hard time with English. Rooms are big and clean. Minus- food vendors and market stalls right outside of hotel. Bfast more to oriental taste and samo-samo everyday. Big Minus-hotel advertise for free wifi but the signal was very weak, it […] was impossible to use the net. Les mer

Quite satisfied with this hotel. Comfortable room. Very good service. Excellent compare to the price I paid. I would have appreciate that the staff speaks better English but this wasn't a major concern anyway. Just one thing, if you wish to eat at the hotel restaurant in case you want to get some rest one day, well, most of the menu wasn't available. […] Same for the wine. Only the most expensive was... Good location, clean comfortable rooms, friendly staff. I enjoyed my stay at the Oriental Bund Hotel very much. Walking distance to The Bund , Yuyuan Gardens and the old city. Would recommend as a good value accommodation option.

although this hotel is at a corner of the street, i would say that it's quite near to the famous attraction Yu Yuan. It's just about 10-15mins walk if you walk through all the small alleys and you can see how the Shanghainese live. it's also about 15-20mins walk to Yu Yuan MTR station. just about another 10mins walk, you arrive at the famous 外滩 (The […] Bund) where you can take the Huangpu River Cruise to Pudong and also see the Oriental Pearl. If given a chance I would return to this hotel for my next SHA trip. Les mer

The hotel's location is superb, right on the Bund and next to the Jade Garden. The room I had was much smaller than I expected and the air conditioner was loud. But the room was clean. The staff were helpful but I wouldn't say warm. I don't think it is a 4 star hotel (in the Chinese standard), max 3 star.

If you are on a budget this hotel is ok... The best thing the hotel has to offer is the breakfast. Rooms are ok but only just, staff are not so well trained and you have to push a little to be understood. Overall probably a 3 star hotel by european standards
