Overall a very nice hotel. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, close to town, close to beaches. The building itself is like a stately Mexican mansion, lots of brick and wood. We had a room with a glorious view of the bay. The infinity pool is very beautiful. The food at the restaurant was good, although […] slightly more expensive then similar food at other local restaurants. Definitely an excellent hotel, especially considering the cost. A great value. The biggest downside was that the bed was rather hard. Also, they could do a little more with some maintenance, for example I had to have the maintenance guy come by to fix the sliding glass door, but even then, it continued to stick. The hotel was great. The rooms were pretty basic, however because we did not spend much time in the hotel room it was all that we needed. Great views, the food was good, and the pools were great. Close to the main beach too.

We had a great time! The location right above the beach with beautiful sunsets is great. The hotel staff is awesome with a definite yes we can attitude. Loved being offered the use of a courtesy room to shower after a day in the sun before our late night departure. We stayed from Feb 27 - March 5, 2013. Overall, a very good experience. Hotel is very picturesque and staff was nice & helpful. There is a large hill to walk up if you're coming from town but not that bad & taxi's are cheap. Quite a few older and retired visitors here. Not much partying around the pool. We are on a car trip around Mexico and spent a day / night at the Hotel Irma. Difficult to find until I had a taxi lead us to the property. Nothing bad to say at all. Breakfast was included and it was anything on the menu. The infinity pool and view of the bay is incredible

This is our 3rd stay at Irma, and would definitely stay there again. One thing I would like to see is a mini fridge and coffee pot in the room, even though they have complimentary coffee between 7:30 and 8 AM, which doesn't do us early risers any good. We were vacationing in Troncones and circumstances required an extra night in zihuatinejo. A quick look on hotels.com and we booked the hotel Irma, with breakfast included. Location was great, with an incredible view of the bay. Our room was a little spartan with a shared balcony, but it was perfect for a quick overnight in zihua.

Pros: Beautiful location, great vistas, great lounging ares, wonderful pools, ease of getting around walking or via taxi, attentive staff, surprisingly quiet, good price. Cons: Uninspired food, uncomfortable beds, lousy pillows.

Excellent location and ambiance with great views over Zihuatanejo bay. Easy walk to town with lots of restaurant options in town and along the walk. We recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a 'local' experience to avoid the Ixtapa 'anywhere' vacation experience.

Just returned from our 10 day stay at the Irma. We had an excellent stay and really enjoyed the hotel. The location is by far the best part of this hotel. Located next to everything you need and or want. The view and the pool area are great as well. The pictures on the internet or the hotels webpage don't do it any justice. Older hotel that has been maintained well. First the negatives, the beds are rock hard and the poolside drinks are expensive and mixed with low quality non-brandname booze. The positives are the views, centralized location, restaurant, pools and very helpful staff. The hotel is cute as a button. Downtown area is a 15 minute walk downhill and flat mostly, […] where there are 40+ restaurants to chose dinner from. Directly on the LaRopa bus route(6 peso) or 20+ minute walk. I had a colorful room and view of the bay. The hotel is on a nice street near restaurants and stores. Close to town for an easy walk. Housekeeping gave me an ice chest while I was there so I could keep a beverage and some food on ice. Also every day in my room I had sculptures made with towels and flowers.

Staff are extremely friendly and a lot of fun, particularly if you speak Spanish.Two nice swimming pools, one the "infinity" type with a spectacular view of the bayfront. Included in our rate was a substantial "American" breakfast with Mexican touches and inclusive of either fresh juice or fresh sliced fruit. My one dinner off the menu (chicken) was […] a little disappointing, but another night they cooked the fish we caught for $20 and served it nicely. Happy hour's a good deal here--two for one margs, etc. Prices are low for food and drink even outside of happy hour. Our room was basic: average size, small bayview balcony, small TV with CNN. Bathroom featured a door that was open at the top--a little weird, but easy for your wife to hand you your cellphone! Typical Mexican "firm" beds-- are they designed for penitent monks? (Please explain to me this Mexican fetish with cement mattresses). Staff not very English proficient, so I ended up speaking Spanish almost exclusively. Easy 10 minute walk into town (downhill) but a bit more arduous on the way back (uphill). Short but extremely steep walk up to the road above the hotel that leads to some nearby fine restaurants (including the one at La Casa Que Canta). But taxis are cheap here; we just hailed them when we were beat . Warning to the elderly or unfit; upper floor rooms involve many stairs and no elevator. Also a long stairway to beach below. Good choice if you're not seeking pricey luxury but unwilling to rough it either. Les mer

The rooms at Hotel Irma are okay, not great, but the view is spectacular, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. They could do better with maintaining things, such as changing burned out light bulbs, keeping things faucets from dripping, etc. The hotel is beautifully situated with a fantastic view of the Bahia Zihuatanejo. We loved Hotel Irma. The rooms have beautiful views and the staff are responsive to all requests. We did, however, travel during Christmas week when there were lots of families. We will return to the hotel, but during a different time of the year without the screaming kids in the pools and in the restaurant.

Excellent choice when in Zhihua. Beautiful, classical Mexican hotel overlooking the bay. Beware the hotel sits at the top of a very steep hill which is doable one step at a time :-) No elevator, so you'll get a great workout with the many steps. Will stay at Irma every time I'm in Zhihua.

Planned to snorkel but some condition at sea caused 2 species of fish to die and wash up on shore. The beaches were cleaned but they kept floating in. We also forgot our cell phone in our room when we checked out, it was charging while we packed then went to lunch and forgot it. We have emailed Irma but have not heard from them. A friend recommended Hotel Irma. We will recommend it our friends now! This is a beautiful location / QUIET / close enough to downtown to walk anytime we wish / very good service throughout the hotel / perfect views of Zihau bay. Pool was always clean. Our room A/C was cold cold cold. Huge shelf / storage spaces for our junk. We have (3) in our rooom […] and not crowded. Although we used the restaurant only for breakfast and poolside snacks it was good food and attentive service each time. Beer was icy cold. Try a Paloma. There is no entertainment, which we liked. Town was 10 minutes away to party. But the entire hotel quieted down after 10:00, which sometimes you want. There are steps to the beach / handy in the daytime to get around or walk out for dinner. We tried nearbye dining -- all great! They lock the stair gates after dark for security BUT it contributes to making this place so quiet and SAFE. The ocean view room is worth the upcharge. I recommend that as well. We visited at Thanksgiving. Surprisingly, that is still 3 weeks before the busy season and the hotel was only 50% full. We had the (two pools) almost to ourselves and no hassle to get lounge chairs or service. Great timing! You are on a steep hill. Be prepared for that. We were lazy so we would walk downhill to the downtown, then cab back. The cab fare was a whopping 25 pesos. No problem! We will go back. Especially in the slow season! Les mer

We had just spent 8 days in a 5 star resort with our kids and their partners. Our family left and we stayed our last 3 days at Irma. The rooms are simple but clean. Noise between rooms was a minor problem and not much hot water - although there wasn't hot water at the 5 star either. In the beautiful heat I didn't miss it but my husband did. The view […] was spectacular but not totally private from our room so we could not leave the drapes open. Some rooms were more private. The view is west so it is too hot to sit out on the balcony in the afternoon. However there are pools and a terrace with lounge chairs and shade umbrellas. No direct beach access from the hotel. A few minutes walk. It is very close to the town centre - so you can walk the boardwalk and beach into Zihaut or take the land route. Staff is very pleasant and breakfast was good. We didn't have lunch or dinner so can't comment. Huge selection of restaurants in Zhihat - many similar menus and prices. We had a fabulous time at Rufo's - just a corner BBQ place - good food and prices. Rufo even got out his electric guitar and played some Santana along with the young keyboard player. Just up the hill is Il Mare (Greek with a fabulous view and meals) , great chef at Zi's at Club Intrawest, esp dinner on the beach, and of course La Casa que Canta - rated 4th best restaurant in Mexico. The money we saved staying at Irma allowed us to enjoy some great dinners out. Les mer

The view was great and the pools and restaurant were delightful. The room was a little small with minimal space for luggage and clothes, but spotlessly clean. Drinking water was provided each day. The staff speak excellent English and are extremely helpful.

MORE PROS THAN CONS: This is a lovely and comfortable place to stay in Zihuatenejo. Perfect for rest and relaxation. Very comfortable king size bed. Great view from oceanside room. Staff are exceptionally accommodating and will go to great lengths to assist whenever possible. Staff assisted me in many ways, including renting car rental for one day from […] Thrifty (drove it directly to hotel from the airport!) CON: This is big issue: Hotel is situated on a steep incline, and there are many steps...When raining, cobble stones can be slippery. Either take cheap taxi, or walk along beach path to center of town (10 min?) Brings you directly to museum, fishermen, artisan's market and mercado (if you want to watch where real people shop for food.) Great shopping: You must stop into Alberto's for beautiful silver jewelry, and please say HOLA to Frank for me! Also, most authentic Mexican meals were at Tomales y Atoles Any (in center of town.) Rooms do need remodeling (some had weak A/C, or problem with hot water, but staff will move you if necessary.) Despite some drawbacks, would stay here again!! Met wonderful Mexican families and my Spanish improved! Les mer

Irma is one of the first hotels built in "Zihua" (the name the locals give Zihuatanejo). Nevertheless, it's in excellent condition. Their photos and website unfortunately do not do it justice. Irma is much better in person. Also, after getting familiarized with the lay of the land, we felt that Irma's location is best. We never took the cab to get around […] the city, there's really no need to. But if you don't enjoy walking or it's a physical issue, there's no lack of taxis, they're everywhere and affordable. Also, Irma is close to what the locals consider the best beach, we agree, Playa La Ropa, within a beautiful 15mins walk. There is a steep climb, however, but can be avoided if you take the longer route to the entrance on the far end of the beach. What made Zihua so charming was it's lack of western tourists of which we only saw a few. If you're looking for a Cancun, Zihua is definitely not your place. Still, there's plenty of good places to dine and spend money. There're many quality restaurants and hotels, even ones where supposedly Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie stayed. But the difference is that most establishments are own privately, unlike the mega corporation feel of Ixtapa (the town next door); which we went to for just a day and found it very dull and contrived. Unless you need a dose of western shopping and aesthetics, there's really no need to go to there. It was the authentic Mexican atmosphere of Zihua that made our trip so charming & such the perfect getaway. Les mer

Hotel Irma is a gorgeous Hotel in a well balanced location in Zihuatenajo. This is the hotel that well heeled vacationers from Mexico City stay at. It sits on the slope above the bay and faces out to the water. Stairs down to the beach lead to a pleasant waterfront walk to the main town. Beachside restaurants dot the walk to main town's restaurants, […] shops, and pier. A 5-10 minute walk in the opposite direction (up around the rocky point, then down to the beach) takes you to Playa La Ropa beach. Playa La Ropa is the broader sand beach further from town, but arguably nicer for swimming and sun bathing. Playa La Ropa is also a more "Americanized" experience with a more family friendly vibe, but less local flair. Hotel Irma is a great place if you want to see both sides of Zihua. And the food at the restaurant was great. Les mer

The Internet connection is good only in the lobby, the pools well kept, the A-C works, no elevator going up and down the stairs..to the beach is laborious. Staff spoke decent English, felt safe, NO courtesy coffee period. Prepare to pay $2.50 USD for a small cup in their restaurant.
