Iberostar Bavaro All Inclusive - Punta Cana

Stayed for a week end of April 2013. I have stayed at the Iberostar in Jamaica and Cuba, but this was my first visit to Dom Rep. I could not fault the resort, most of the staff were excellent and resort had excellent facilities. Rooms were adequate size and kept clean daily. Apart from the usual beach and pool activity, we played tennis at the onsite […] courts a few times, made use of the bookable restaurants a few nights and loved walking around the well kept resort. Buffet food was excellent. Tips: - Learn some basic spanish as some staff (even at reception and guest services) seen to struggle with English. This is more my fault than theirs as spanish is the main language here so not a criticism. - The saturday evening 'Romantic night' restaurant we booked was well worth it and surprised me as to the quality of the food and setting. - Please tip the staff. I always take one dollar bills (can break down larger notes at reception) and tip the waiters and cleaners. A little goes a long way for these workers and the smile on their faces says it all. First time in the Dominican Republic and couldn't have asked for a better vacation for our family-kids aged 11-17. The reception and housekeeping staff were extremely courteous, always smiling, and fulfilled any request we had. They even took note of the drinks we liked from the mini bar and refilled them without being asked. The resort is very well […] maintained, the staff is very freindly and the grounds are clean and beautiful. The food was better than we anticipated, with the exception of the Japanese restaurant, which was terribly salty and far from authentic Japanese cuisine. The pool was clean and we generally had no problems findng chairs. And there were always activities to entertain the kids. One negative, we found the dinner reservation process a bit suspect, as the restaurants were never full in spite of being told that reservations were not available, and one evening a small tip to the hostess gained us entrance. And the travel rep (James) seemed irritated by the fact that we had booked our excursions online prior to arriving at the hotel. All in all, a great place to stay. Les mer

This was our very first time in the Dominican Republic and also at an all inclusive resort. We were amazed at the beauty of the resort and you will not find more hard working, friendly staff anywhere! This resort had everything we could have ever dreamed. Beautiful - all around. We were next to the pool area and you would think it was noisy - it was not. The beach was clean, the water was chrystal clear and warm (but not bathtub warm), plenty of shade or sun if needed. The buffet was always there when needed and very typical #lots of fruits, vegetables and vegetable salads, breads of all kinds, eggs made the way you'd like, and delicious desserts, but we highly suggest making reservations to the specialty restaurants, it's definately worth it. Great hotel with very nice beaches you can walk for miles. Staff was great. The bartenders at the lobby bar are great & a lot of fun. Would definitely go back. Went for my friend's 60th birthday - girls trip. A la Carte restaurants were very good for an all inclusive.

The hotel could use some additional maintanence. A few things in our room were broken. The TV quit working for a day but was fixed. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms which is a little diappointing. The food was very good. The service at the buffet was very good. For some reason the serivce as some of the "fine dining" resturants was terrible, especially […] the Japanese theme resturant. The drinks were good. However, I did witness that the beach bar only rinsed off their glasses (no real washing) before refilling them and giving that glass back to another customer. Family of 4. Two suites. They are placed in groups of 4 suites. Ours were next door each other with absolute independence between them. Clean and neat, a place that invites you to stay after beach time, or to take a nap or even read a book in that perfect and partially hidden balcony. Very well attended with people with positive and excellence in their […] attitude. There is a magic trick that you should always practice on this places, the first one is to treat people by their names, considering that your stay will depend on their behavior, let them know that you are not "another more customer", and always tip. We went with spirit of having a relax time, and we have it. Recommended for families with little kids also, its very well prepared as far as we saw. Food is fresh and with lot of different offerings in the buffet and specialty restaurants. The beach is clean, always a beach chair at your needs. Sport activities are good and with a big menu of them. An advise: if taking an adventure trip (scuba, sailing, visiting sahona island, etc.,) do this trips with the hotel-team, they are prepared, well priced, and got the equipment and capabilities to do so. We did one with an external agent and was not good experience as the one we did lather with the hotel. It was our first time and was an excellent experience. We were here for 7 days December 19 - 26. Christmas day was a very special day for us. The Iberostar Bavaro went out of their way to make the occasion special in many ways. The Christmas Eve buffet was a real treat with every kind of food anyone would want. We were especially impressed with the the caliber of all the employees of the Iberostar. We really liked the Iberostar Bavaro resort. All rooms are in small, separate buildings of 8 units rather than one large hotel, so it is much quieter. And the rooms were huge and had a nice view. The grounds are beautiful - gardens, flamingos, fountains, and the tallest palm trees I've ever seen. The beach was gorgeous - turquoise water, rows of tiki […] huts, plenty of lounge chairs, clean sand. All the staff people we encountered were smiling and friendly. The food and drink was great -there were a half-dozen different restaurants and maybe a dozen bars scattered around. There was a nice mix of Europeans, Americans and others there - added an exotic touch to our vacation. We went the first week of December, so there were very few children. Mainly adults from 30-70 (more older than younger.) Our fellow guests seemed happy and pleasant; even with the unlimited booze, we didn't see anyone falling-down-drunk or obnoxious. One minor gripe: They charged us $40 for WIFI internet that only worked in the lobby. I had expected that to be free. And I had to re-enter a long login and password every time I used it, which got annoying. And we could only use it on 1 of our 2 phones. The only other gripe is that for one evening (Friday) the resort allowed local vendors to set up tables all along the main walkways where they enthusiastically but respectfully tried to sell you things. I understand the motivation, but it got old having to turn down 10 sales pitches walking to dinner. Les mer

The hotel rooms were private, clean and close to the beach and pool. I loved that we had our own private "little home". Also my boyfriend and I went in the second week of November. Perfect time! Even though it thunder stormed on and off the sun was amazing. And the beach and pool were not crowded at all!

Its a great resort... big and nice rooms. Great food and staff. Amazing beach with lots of palm trees and snorkling with fish and coral reef just a few meters from the shore. Really all you have to hope for is great weather. We went and got a forecast of rain every single day, but it was still great cuz during the day it was sunny and hot only around […] 7pm each night it would rain for an hour like crazy. On the last day some clouds rolled in during the day... which did make the beach look a lot less impressive... so I hope for your sake you get lucky with the weather. If you got sun you'll love it! The hotel experience was wonderful. The accommodations exceeded our expectations and the staff was very courteous and professional at all times. We have traveled to many places and our stay here at the lberostar Bavaro All Inclusive was one of the top places on our list. Clean and spacious suites. Only once did we have an issue with housekeeping forgetting to replace our towels, but new ones were brought to us right away along with some bonus chocolates. There were a few surly staff members, but the vast majority were super friendly and clearly working very hard to serve, entertain, and make the whole experience enjoyable. […] The food was just fine, but the enthusiastic service and overall atmosphere more than made up for any mediocre buffet selections. We really liked La Coupule, the gourmet restaurant on site, which had great food and a romantic setting. The neighboring La Marimba seafood place was just okay. The rooms are so-so. In fact, the rooms have a step to go from where the bed is to the living room - terrible idea if you have kids who may not see the step. Rooms are small as well, or at least give that impression due to the layout. However, when you are there, you spend very little time in the room. The hotel was very nice looking and looked clean. The rooms are also spacious it was only me and my girlfriend but it was plenty of room with the layout. The food was very good as well a few people we were with got sick but i think it was from eating too much or they have sensitive stomachs. The resort is relaxing with plenty of activities for everyone. I went with my family and everyone seemed entertained. If you are considering scuba diving-- do it! The trainers are very helpful and the reefs are gorgeous! As a vegetarian, I was not completely satisfied with the vegetarian selection; however, the language barrier did not help. Nonetheless, […] the options I did have were good and there were plenty of fruits. We did have trouble with AC in one of our rooms-- we ended up sharing a room for one night since it was too hot to sleep in the room without AC. The staff was diligent to get it fixed, but it took almost a day to fix the problem. In general, I was quite pleased with my experience. The beaches and pools were well maintained, and it was quite easy to find a spot on the beach. I would recommend this resort to family and friends with the suggestion for vegetarians to eat at the buffets (vs. specialty restaurants) and learn basic Spanish. Les mer

I'm giving this hotel a 4 because overall I had a lovely time. However, we traveled with a large group, if it were to have just been my husband and I, the rating might have been a 3. We did not have hot water in our shower for the entire stay, but this was easily remedied by heading over to a family member's room across the way. Obviously this would […] have been a bigger problem if they weren't there. The air conditioner was not as powerful as we would have liked. The worst part of our trip was that quite a few members of our party got food poisoning. We're not exactly sure what it could have been, but it happened around the same time. Luckily, it was the last day of our trip. I have a feeling it was the pitchers of juice they leave out for the majority of the day, but I'm not sure. We only tried one of the themed restaurants, the Japanese. Eh! It's not what I call Japanese in any way. It's a mission to get reservations, and it wasn't worth it at all. :/ sad. I was really looking forward to sushi. Oh well. Other than that, the staff was TRULY lovely. We made friends with a lot of them. They remember you, and treat you very well. We loved the swim up bar. The hotel was very nice. The only problem is that there's always the language barrier and only some of the staff speak English. There was not always an answer when you called the front desk. The only part […] that tourists might not like as much was that almost all of the dining was in an exterior environment, so you do not eat in any air conditioning. There are guides at the hotel everyday that can arrange excursions. Visitors will have a good time there, just being aware of the heat. We drank the water that we were served and I never had any GI issues (they always say don't drink the native water). June 1 2012- June 7 2012 This is my second stay at the hotel. Just returned from a 7 day getaway with the wife and two children (2&3). Overall I would recommend the hotel however there are a few changes required to make me want to return. 1) DVD players installed in each rooms or perhaps have a few on hand which guest can borrow 2) the aircon in the […] room had but 1 setting-high, an additional setting would have helped, medium or low? 3) the kids menu could be improved or at least the staff more accommodating of our wants. As for the pool and beach no complaint and two thumbs up to the kids water play pool! Great addition/idea! As for the food- it is an all inclusive resort, I'll leave it at that. The Steak house was by far the best along with the main Buffet hall by the lobby. The staff and chefs where attentative particularly a staff memeber by the name of "Apolinar"- you single handedly made a notable difference to our stay. Our daughter, Valentina called the gentleman "a nice guy". The Japanes resturante was weak - perhaps they should look to hire a true Japanes chef to teach them some techniques and how best use the abondante seafood to their advantage. This was a super fun hotel. It was huge with several different sites - the Bavaro got you access to everything but the Grand Bavaro (which I heard was just a bit quieter). The staff was great. The drinks were flowing, the sun was shining, and it was all good. They didn't nickel and dime you... It was, for the most part, all inclusive. Drinks, food, […] lots of activities, etc. I brought $500 spending cash and only spent about $150 at the hotel (most of which was for tipping the staff - 50 pesos ~ $1.25 definitely put a smile on their face). The only thing that was way too expensive was WiFi ($13 a day) and some of the offsite activities. I have been to several different all-inclusive places in Mexico and the Bavaro stacks up very well. Like most all-inclusive places, the food is a bit bland and generic, but not too bad. There is a good variety, so you'll find something you like. I went with a group of about 22 people for a wedding and they did that well too. There was also an eclectic mix of people from all around the world. Hit the Casino, Nightclub and Karaoke if you get a chance. Les mer

The rooms were ok, but they are due for updating, at least plumbing and mechanically speaking. The A/C and hot water were hit and miss, one day you'd have it, the next not so much. The staff was very friendly and they did not try to push all sorts of excursions on you like I had expected. The food was decent and lots to choose from at several buffets. […] We tried the Steakhouse one night, and it was ok, but we preferred the buffets. The water from the bars, buffets and restuarants IS safe to drink, just do NOT drink the water in your room from the tap. There are even signs on the sink stating that it is non-potable, but ok to bath in? The pool and beach were amazing, lots of activities if you like them, quiet spots if you don't. If you are an American like myself, make sure you take cash. We took travelers checks thinking we could cash them at the front desk. Oh, they'll cash them, but into Dominican Pesos and you will lose money. All in all, this was a nice place to spend our vacation. Les mer

This was a beautiful property on an amazing stretch of beach. The staff was friendly and fun and the food was good. Even though my wife and I travelled alone, thay had a super nice water park for the kids if we want to bring them next time. This property has 4 resorts that stretch across a single property: the Punta Cana, Donimicano, Bavaro and Grand […] priced lowest to highest. We stayed at the Bavaro and we would certainly suggest spending the few extra bucks. We strolled over to the other resorts (Punta Cana and Dominicano) and saw that the pools/ restaurants werent nearly as polished as the Bavaro, and it was extremely crowded, where the Bavaro was more comfortable. Went to this hotel ten years ago and it was wonderful. Very disappointed this year on the second trip. Management was awful. I fell in a puddle at the pool and "guest services" showed no concern. We had a wonderful family vacation at the Iberostar Bravaro, an all inclusive resort. Our rooms were spacious, clean and provided with towels twice daily. Our room had a king sized bed, a separate living room area and full bath( with tub and separate shower). A nice outdoor patio rounded out the comfortable accomodations. The staff on all levels were […] polite and although many did not speak English, communication was manageable. This resort has daily buffets for breakfast and lunch with ample supplies of various foods. Dinner can be either in a themed restaurant or also at a buffet. Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect though was the lovely beaches and clear water. At times there can be quite a breeze off the ocean but not enough to deter enjoying the beach. The pool was big enough for the many people there but most of our time was spent at the beach. We did take one excursion off the resort for Zip Lining, but there was no where to walk to outside of the resort. Evening entertainment was perhaps the only downside to our stay. The level of shows by husband compared to the movie Dirty Dancing. Overall a great time and I would do it again. Les mer

I have been vacationing in Punta Cana for almost 14 years and I must say that this was my most pleasant experience by far! I never stayed at the Iberostar Group of Resorts but I can honestly recommend this resort to any couple or family looking for relaxation, good food and good entertainment. I've read many "reviews" complaining about this and that. […] Mostly about the food --- not enough variety. I don't know what these people are expecting for the price of this trip, a five star restaurant??? This is not New York, Chicago, or Paris...If you're looking to feel the sand between your toes, swim in the cleanest ocean I've ever seen and eat (at least) 3X a day then this is THE place to be. If you feel "stressed" after this trip, well, visit your family doctor for some medication---you need it. The staff is friendly and helpful. I was up walking the beach every morning by 7:00. I watched as the staff was raking the seaweed from the edge of the beach!! The grounds are immaculate and you can literally eat off the floor. The only negative aspect was leaving for home. Many hotels have a high rating, but this one has one great feature: guests live in separate two-floor cottages for 8 rooms each, spread out on the huge territory, That creates comfortable atmosphere, and there is no guest crowds. Next time I will be definitely stay there.

This was my first all inclusive experience. The resort met all my expectations. Clean, well appointed rooms, good variety and availabilty of food and drink. There are a variety of activities and excursions to choose from or just enjoy the beach with a good book. You make the choice. Overall, very nice family resort. Food was excellent and drinks were not watered down. They have a nice kids club and babysitting available so parents can get a few hours out at the disco, dinner or casino at the Dominicana Iberostar next door. Haven't figured out why the Dominicana is cheaper than this hotel, it seems to have the same amenities. Negatives […] of this place include horrible mattress, outdated and poorly designed rooms, specialty restaurants were quite poor, buffets much better. The Japanese restaurant was aweful and not even close to Japanese food! Service remained excellent all over the resort. The pool was large, but water was cold in the afternoons and the jacuzzi water in the middle of the pool also was cold! There is a nice kids pool with small slides, etc. They did have nice activites during the days for kids and adults as well pretty good evening shows. The resort was well kept and had nice grounds with ducks, flamingos, fish, incl turtles etc for kids to see. We have been to Punta Cana before, and if returned probably would not go back here, we went to Melia Caribe and had a better overall experience there, food much better, pools better, etc. But it is a bit more expensive. resort was great. beautiful pool and easy access to beach and ocean. wide variety of food, most of which was wonderful. my only "problem" was i thought the food was inconsistant. (i.e. one day the steak was great, the next day it was tough). overall i would go back to this resort without any problem.
