"My room smelled of pee ...."
Had to keep the aircon on full blast. Staggered out of the room in the morning and drove as far and fast as I could! Paid for my 'cheapest hotel stay search' I guess

"Comfortably deceiving"
Great location and close to all amenities. The hotel staff was courteous and quick to respond to any of our needs.
"Spend a little more and stay somewhere restful"
I stayed here on the way to key west. The hotel was not the only historic thing... the mattresses were antiques as well. I think Washington slept on mine. I got no sleep. There was tremendous highway noise. However the cafe next door was great. LOVED their patio and the most flaky croissant I have ever tasted. Do yourself a favor, stop for the coffee […] but skip the hotel. There's a really good reason it is cheaper than everything else. Les mer

The room was clean. The bed was comfortable- small room and bathroom. It is not a luxurious place but overall not bad. I would stay there again* good location nice place to eat near by

"The Tavernier hotel - first stop on the Keys"
Description of historic is appropriate; good place next door for breakfast and snacks. Good value for money. Opportunity to meet others at the patio. Negative comment re the loudness of the air con unit, but we did manage to get some sleep!! It would have been good if they could have been more helpful on how to get to places of interest in the area […] . Les mer
"Historic flavor"
Very nice hotel if you are looking for that historic atmosphere and not looking for the equivalent of a new, modern hotel. Small, Monroe County park just a short walk away with access to sitting benches along the water. Great little French restaurant next door for breakfast and lunch.
"Okay for price"
Not enough parking, no staff on duty except 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.. If needed anything, no one to help... did not know where to park 7 spaces for 10 - 15 rooms. No electrical plugs in bathroom. If you are okay with clean minimial room with no staff, will work.
Felt and smelled dirty probably due to the age of the facility. Moldy; buggy; wife would not sleep tahere, slept in the car !!

We liked the room, although one towel was dirty at arrival. It must have been à mistake, everything else was nice and clean. Small but comfy room, and really nice coffe-shop. Beds were never made and room never cleaned during our three day stay, but we didnt mind much. Would have been great to have the trash emptied though. "Clean hotel"
We stayed on our way to Key west and were surprised at first as to how small and old the hotel was. We never met the staff but they left the key and we had a good meal nearby and slept well. For te age of the hotel and price it was quite good.
"Tavernier Inn Hotel in the Keys"
Being the cheapest on the Internet guided us to book into this hotel. It occupies an 'historic' building so it is not going to be like a modern motel. The rooms are on the small side with a large double bed so there was not a lot of space. A chair would have been useful, as it was, we had to watch the TV, lying on the bed. Also missing was a 'brew up' […] facility, so no cups of tea or coffee in the room. A room had been set aside to provide a few basic necessities such as a washing machine, a fridge, a coffee percolator and a microwave but no running water so you had to take your own! No daily service to your room, so it was DIY for bed making, changing towels and emptying the trash bins. Next to the hotel was a comfortable coffee shop which also sold pastries. Even better was the Cafe Cubano (and mini supermarket) a few yards further on, which sold wholesome Cuban fare from 5.00am to 9.00pm with a specially good line in coffee. Little English spoken though. Both of these a good place to have breakfast. In summary, the Tavernier Hotel is just about OK for a one night stop but not recommended for an extended stay. Les mer

What a great place to start and end my bicycle trip of the Keys! The accomodations were a throwback to simpler times, the staff couldn't have been nicer, and there's an excellent coffee shop/bakery adjoining.

"Historic Tavernier Hotel"
The is a very Old Motel from like back in the 20's. If you are just looking for an overnight stay this is a good motel right on the main drag thru town. I would not recommend it as a family get away hotel. There is no pool!!!! and the courtyard is gravel. The rooms are mainly for 2 people not a family. They are clean and have nice beds but the bathroom […] are very small. And make sure you are there before 5pm they close then. Overall I would give this hotel a 2 1/2 start rating. There are alot of hotels around the area so if you are looking for something modern then shop around. Les mer

Hotel is right for the price. Facility not modern but you have to keep in mind that it is a historical building. Handy to have laundry facilities and fridge available. It would be nice if some cups could be provided to make coffee or tea. Cafe Moka next door has excellent coffee and pastries.
"Key life , the way it should be"
We really stayed here 2 times in two weeks! A couple of 5 day stretches. Quaint building , nice staff and central location made it a perfect place for us to stay. We liked it alot , and would like to go back !

The pics on hotels.com was nothing like the actual hotel. I was concerned about the location/security of the location. although I had no problems. The shower i wouldn't use. The bed was very good. I wouldn't stay there again would rather pay more for a better peice of mind.

Old doesn't equal rundown or dirty at this inn. Good value. Very pleasant stay. Forget the 60" TV or fancy amenities. Shared fridge & micro? No problem - clean and you are more apt to find a prior guest leaving behind their unused laundry detergent for your use than finding your beer missing. Make friends in the lobby while surfing local tourist websites. […] Coral reef park minutes away. Great pastry and coffee shop abutting a shared courtyard. Real deal Cuban food steps away - no frills but clean and the best Cuban food around at inexpensive prices. Highly recommend if this sounds like your kind of quaint place to hang for few days. "Traverneir Inn"
My only complaint was at ~ 4:30 pm when we arrived our room was not ready! And we were asked to come back later... However when it was ready, all was well especially puppy Taz in the front office!
What an adventure!! Several passes were made down the road before finding the place and then with no one at any "desk" found our name and a number to call on the outside door. A room key was found in a lock box and we managed to wedge our car into the back parking lot...hoping no one would hit it on their way out. We "dropped" into the room - an unexpected […] step down as we entered the bedroom. It had a king-size bed which was really very comfortable. We discovered a second adjoining bedroom with two double beds and were relieved to see that it was locked from the inside. The bath was incredibly small and very crude though realitively clean. The toilet had been wedged in...and was best sat on sideways! The shower showed a long history of repairs. The towels were actually very nice...and we enjoyed the small flat-screen television in the bedroom. After meeting others who had also booked on-line only to arrive and find out they had no room, we were thankful to have had a clean, comfortable bed but would spend some careful time with advance planning to stay elsewhere in the future. "Historic Tavernier Hotel in Key Largo - so-so."
Overpriced for what you get--amenities consist of a common room with a microwave, a fridge and a soda machine. No phone in the room, no housekeeping during your stay, no chair (in my room at least), a cute little closet painted shut; window painted shut.

"Florida Keys historic site"
We really enjoyed our time at the Historic Tavernier Inn Hotel . The room was super comfy , the staff was very friendly . It is only about an 90 minute drive to ether end of the Keys , so we got to enjoy all the the Keys had to offer! The hotel is very quaint and charming . Next door is a Cuban diner & market (very good food) and attached to the hotel […] is a cafe that has the best coffee and scones you will ever have! I will be staying there again! Les mer
"Nice Bed and Breakfast style room"
Our room at the Historic Tavernier Inn was very nice and very clean. After reading the reviews I went ahead with my reservation based on our price wants and location needs. I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable for a 2-3 night stay. There was no phone in the room, but who uses hotel phones any longer? There was […] free wifi in the rooms and a nice little tv mounted on the wall. There wasn't much closet or luggage space so I think I would want something larger for any stay longer than a weekend. The hotel staff were very friendly and even allowed us an early check in which made it MUCH easier to get to our friend's wedding without having to rush! I would absolutely stay here again and would recomend it to others. Les mer
"Quaint and Cute!"
This hotel has the old charm of the historic building with new upgrades in the bathroom, fixtures, and bed. It wasn't the biggest room, but who goes down to the Keys to stay in their room? It was clean and had a fantastic French Bakery right next door. The food and coffee were awesome. Let them know you are staying next door and receive 20% off!
The hotel is great if you are looking for a clean place to stay for cheap and I would recommend it. Our room was on the highway side and was very loud however. Also there really is nothing around to do unless you want to drive 10- 15 minutes in either directions.

We stayed here 2 nights while going to a wedding nearby. Check in was easy, room was quaint and bed was very comfortable.

As long as you know you are not going to a 5 star hotel, evidenced by the very affordable rates, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the room you get for the price and location. We truly enjoyed our stay, but next time if we have a little more money will might upgrade to a bigger room. We had the smallest room available.

The room booked was to have two queen size beds, but alas they were only s d ouble size. From front of toilet to wall was so short knees touched. Beds were never made. Clean towels were provided daily, but dirty towels not removed from room and piled up in corner. No kitchenet as indicated in line brochure. Will never stay nor recomend again.

"Clean"
This is very old hotel with historic value so the rooms are small. The bed was huge! Booked a queen and got a king. There was enough room to walk around the bed and the bathroom was also very small. We arrived late so the office was closed but they were accommodating with a lock box. FYI the streets roll up at night in this town. We were just passing […] through but wish McDonalds would have been open. Yes even McDonalds is not open. Plan ahaed for food if you get there after 10:00. Oh and the parking lot is not trailer friendly. It even says "no trailers" which would have been a surprise if we had our boat. But VERY CLEAN and it worked great for what we needed. Les mer

Though the room was only used for sleeping purposes I found it odd, and frankly disconcerting, that there was no daily maid service to clean up the room every morning. This is why I gave this hotel a rating of 2 for 'quality of service'. This establishment is not run like a real hotel.

They do not allow you to park any boat, trailler or anything other than your vehicle, they will call a towing truck on you !
hotel is very close to s hospital that i go to. This is the reason i stay there.
