This hotel appears to be an old college dorm which has been somewhat updated to be a hotel (or maybe it was built at the same time as dorms in the style of dorms?). Hotel is clean and modern. Quiet. Rooms are small but comfortable. Breakfast is poor - no protein, it used to be much better. Have to pay for parking ($8.00/day)

This hotel was a lovely surprise! I wasn't sure what to expect but the hotel and staff were helpful and super friendly. The room itself was very nice. Very good location if you are looking to spend time around the University area. Regular rooms are quite small but have everything you need. Would have liked to have a suite case table instead of having to put it in the closet. Parking cost an extra $8.00/day. Breakfast is included, worked for us.

very convenient location if you want to be close to University of Calgary.

Good location and helpful staff. Room was rather small and the dinner served at the attached resturant was poor. The breakfast was fine.

Average Hotel with tiny rooms. Cont. breakfast was minimal.

Had a meeting on campus so the location of the hotel is ideal. Biggest complaint I have was a lot of hallway noise between 2-3 AM as students returned to their rooms. I was on the 6th floor and I guess students reside in the hotel too. This is a big drawback.

This was a very nice, modern hotel. It was during the school year, but it was still quiet and peaceful. The only thing I would say is to not stay there when it's cold. You have to pay for parking (and you aren't even downtown!), and the parking is not very close, you have to walk for a bit to get back to the hotel.

Perfect hotel when you have errand at University. Nice hotel and staff

I would only recommend this hotel if you are staying on U of C campus. Although "Europified", it still has a very '60s dorm feel to it.

We were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly pleased with our experience with this hotel which we had no previous contact with. Would recommend to anyone.

This is a great hotel! Located on the U of C campus it is somewhat under utilized in the summer, but what a great find. The hotel room was on the small side but that matches the "Euro" label. It has everything you need and the quality is excellent. The breakfast, which is included, is excellent and offers an assortment of breads, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, […] etc This is excellent value. Great hotel on University of Calgary campus.

I probably wasn't the typical guest that stays at the Hotel Alma at the University of Calgary because most of the stuff I wanted to do was in the downtown core - and the location is a bit out of the way, but I chose it because of the good value for the price point. Overall I was really happy with my stay. During the summer months the campus is a bit […] deserted and walking to find the LRT station was a bit of a hassle if you're not familiar with the campus, not to mention a bit of a safety concern if you're walking back through the campus in the evening (but they do have a Safewalk service on site). The hotel is a bit out of the way if your intention is to visit downtown, but as I mentioned, the University LRT (C-Train) station is near campus and getting around Calgary that way is easy. My only complaint with the hotel itself was that the bed was way too firm (for my tastes) and the large size of the desk and desk chair makes the room dimensions feel much more cramped than they are. The Eurostyle room with a queen bed is perfect for one person, and would be fine for two people who plan on spending most of their time out and about in the city. On the upside, the hotel offers long distance and high speed internet with the room which was great and the in-room coffee was tasty and much appreciated by this coffee lover. If you are going to University of Calgary - this is an ideal spot to stay. Very Euro-style hotel. Pretty decent breakfast. Small but well appointed rooms. I was very pleased and would stay again.

While this hotel isn't nestled in the heart of downtown Calgary, you certainly get your money's worth (and more) with Hotel Alma. The rooms were newly furnished, and included all of the amenities (LCD flatscreen TV, microwave, fridge, coffee-maker, iron/ironing board). The free wi-fi and long-distance calls was a HUGE bonus, as you'll often find that […] high-end hotels will charge you a significant fee for these privileges. My floor (5th floor) even had a laundry room...pretty handy for a long-term traveller. The free continental breakfast was basic, but hey, it's FREE, and it was filling. All of the staff (including the cleaning staff) were extremely friendly and helpful. If you are coming to Calgary for an event or lecture at the University (or even if you're not) I would highly recommend this hotel. For the amount I paid, I most definitely got my money's worth + some. I would stay here again, for sure. Les mer

was very convenient as we were involved in an activity on campus. They held our baggage for us for the day. Everyone very helpful and friendly. Felt very European. Only draw backs parking a long ways away and found the hallways very noisy.

Small rooms, parking about 200m walk from outside of hotel, pool/gym in separate building. Otherwise excellent hotel - nice, modern, clean safe, great value.

My wife and I enjoyed our brief stay at the hotel very much. We liked the modern design and decoration, the upscale feel as well as the amenities offered. The free breakfast was better than we were expecting, offering good choices of food in a nice dining area. One criticism would be the parking. We were put off by the charge, most hotels offer free […] parking, and the fact that the parking area was off site. Too far if it's cold or raining out. This disappointment was offset by the hotel offering free internet as well as free local and long distance calling. This was much appreciated. Overall, our experience was better than expected and we would definitely stay there again. We would also recommend it to friends and family. Les mer

The hotel is very new and convenient if you are meeting at Univ of Calgary, which I was. The location and parking are difficult to find. Because the hotel is also a dorm facility, the rooms are very, very small. You have to walk sideways to get between the bed and armoire. The bathroom and bathtub/shower are also very small, and instead of puttting […] in curved curtain rods, they put in straight ones, and you can not shower without the curtain sticking to you. The heating and cooling are controlled more for the entire floor. My room was 25 C when I arrived, and I turned the a/c on all night and only got the room down to 24C. The radiator was heating the room all nite. I forgot a couple items in my room when I checked out and when I arrived home and noticed I forgot those things, I called the hotel and they would not look for them and suggested I call back in 2 days to see if anyone from houskeeping had turned them in. Overall, the staff were friendly to my face, but would never go out of their way to serve me. Les mer

the hotel is modern looking, new and clean. we loved our stay there. like the design of the room, reception and restaurant a lot. well thought out to the last detail, from tea bags to toilet paper...one of the nicest place we been so far. excellent overall!!

Hotel Alma has an attractive modern retro feel. Its an excellent hotel and it offers a complimentary breakfast that is very good. Very clean, comfortable and modern accomodations. Beds are premium and room is equipped with everything I need. Free breakfast was a nice touch. Like the bistro, convenient and tastey! I travel more than 180 days a year, Hotel Alma was one of the best stays so far. Small but very well furnished. Fridge, Microwave, Flat screen cable, blazing fast internet, and everything clean and new. I do not need more than that. Extremely good breakfast with many many fresh choices in a very stylish setting. My 3 night stay was overall excellent!! The complimenmtary breakfast was not continental it was what one would expect at a Five Star Hotel but without the cost. Whenever I needed anything for my room ie extra coffee ande sugar the night staff immediately supplied with me what I needed even though it was a trip for them to the 7th floor and then delivery […] to my room. I enjoyed my breakfast conversation with the staff who were there and they also attended to any needs I may have had. Excellent service. I am planning another 3 day business trip to Calgary early September and will definitely be going back to the ALMA. I suggested to the staff that they should franchiuse their hotel and provide similar alternate accomodation at other Universities in Canada. Being on campus returned to my earlier days bat Trent U and Ottawa U where a hotel of this nature is sorely needed. Les mer

The location, with it's proximity to Foothills Hospital in Calgary was ideal. Our only issue was with the front desk. We had to move because there was no heat control in the first room, this required > 6 calls to the front desk and took most of one day. On moving it required another 4 calls to receive some toiletries left behind.
