Saxony Motel - Chatham

This has very clean and recently redone rooms. They have not yet re-painted the exterior. The staff were very respectful and helpful. It seems to be a unique "family run" business in the world of hotel chains. Breakfast was included. We recommend that you support a small business and stay at Saxony Motel.

This motel looks a little ancient and run down from the outside. But the rooms have been newly renovated and are comfortable and clean. Staff was very friendly. Continental breakfast provided but not used since there is an excellent breakfast place right next door and a Tim Horton's across the street.

We were stuck getting a hotel and my wife and I ended up staying here with our 2 kids. Wouldn't do it again. Drunk people next door kept us up a good portion of the night, tried to get in our room. Not the kind of environment I want my family to be in. If your a man looking for a cheap room then this will do, but that's about it.

This is an older motel that is undergoing renovations. While the outside still looks a little drab and dated, I stayed in one of the updated rooms and was pleasantly surprised. The room was spotless, the bathroom completely updated, all new carpets and furnishings (except for the TV, which was an older CRT style, but worked OK with lots of channels). […] The A/C heater unit was new, but a bit noisy. All in all, quite satisfactory considering the price... good value for the money. Comes equipped with a mini fridge and microwave. No separate kettle or coffee maker, but there is a modest continental breakfast served in the office (coffee, tea, oatmeal, toast, bagels, muffins, juice, fruit), and there's a Timmy's across the street. Free wi-fi, but I was in a room at the far end from the office and the signal was very weak. If you need internet access, ask for a room closer to the router. While the bath and toilet are in a separate room, the bathroom vanity is open to the sleeping area, so this may not be an ideal setup for a family or two or more people where someone is a light sleeper. But for a single person or business traveller on a budget, the Saxony is good value for the money. Les mer

The washcloths were very stained, we would not use them on our face. Three sets of towels for four women.. The outside was deplorable looking. The room was newly done but lacked some finishing. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the bedding was clean and new except for a big stain on a blanket at the foot of the bed.

Kind of run down looking on the outside, but walked into a freshly renovated room. Comfy beds, fresh clean linens. Room was cold when we walked in, but easily warmed up with the window heater. Doors automatically lock when closed, but no dead bolt or other lock on the inside. I booked a weekend online through hotels.com !! The pictures of the rooms i based my accessment and on the online surveys!! When i pulled in the outside through me as it is in disrepair but you can see they are working on renos!!! I also was prepared as other online reviews stated such!!! I called into the office as i arrived early and the staff accommodated […] me and let me check in an hour early and upgraded my suite to kingsize bed!!! I was more than thrilled with the room!! Newly renovated and soaker tub!!! So clean and fresh!!! Just beautiful!!! I have not been anywhere that is better for the price!!! I will always book there when i stay in chatham!!!! This motel is very nice as far as nightly lodging goes. They are currently renovating and the rooms are amazing. I have stayed in hotels that werent this nice and cost twice as much. Once the renovations are done, I'm sure this motel will compete with the best hotels in Chatham. They even offer a decent continental breakfast and the employees are very […] nice. They are still doing renovations to the units. Worker started early. My room wasn't complet, little things to do like, dead lock or chain, paint, bible... Some dust from the sanding

The room was more then perfect 4 us but the outside had alot to be done. I get height sick and the stairs were in great need of repair so I thought OMG what a motel, but then we opened the door to a beautiful, perfect room. If the stairs were replaced, I woulod stay there anytime I am in that area!

The rooms have been tastefully redone inside and are very clean. Beds are extremely comfortable. We let the staff know that the only downside was the carpet which we were told is being replaced. Overall, very nice inside. Outside needs work. Would stay again.

The owners are currently updating the hotel. Looks like the room renovations are half way done. The exterior needs major updating. For the price however, it may be the best value for your dollar in Chatham, Ontario. Anyone cost conscious should keep this hotel as an option.

They are in the process of remodeling. I imagine once they are done it will look great. The restaurant next door was excellent. Close t o shopping & Tim Hortons across the street.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom and the furniture were upgraded and very pleasant. The property itself was scary. I understand that they are looking to upgrade in the area that customers will use, however, the exterior of the property needs major restoration as well. We were really worried until we entered the room.

Don't let the idea that its a "motel" shy you away. We took the place strictly for the price and weren't expecting much but were very happy and surprised with our two day stay. I have stayed in far more expensive hotels and motels, yet no had the size or cleanliness of room as at this motel. The front counter staff were very pleasant and helpful. Recommendations to the motel owners: place individual light switches for the bathroom and vanity/sink areas.

Everyrhing was clean, service was great, employees were very kind! Our only concern was that our door didn't seem to close very firmly-- it looked as if there had been some previous damage to the door jamb-- but it still locked and we didn't have any other problems! Thank you! :)

The outside of this hotel is "run down" needs some TLC. However , the inside was surprisingly clean and accomodating. The staff was very help and was able to assist us with all of our needs.

We were quite happy with our stay there - the room was very spacious, the beds were comfortable, the location was good enough. Our only issue was that we'd requested a crib and we got a pack and play. But I should have clarified beforehand, because many people don't realize the difference. Our younger son doesn't fit in a pack and play, but he's too […] young for a bed, so getting him to sleep with me in the bed was a bit of a challenge. Door did not have a safety bolt. Anyone could have got into our room. Bathroom fan did not work. Lighting was poor and lamp stand had a short in it, so the light did not work. Did not like the washbasin outside of the bathroom area and the bathroom did not have it;s own light switch. If someone wanted to use the toilet at night without disturbing the […] person who is sleeping. The price was a little too much for the facilities available. Don't think we will return to this motel. I was staying at this hotel while attending a conference in the area. As a graduate student, the price is great. The inside of the hotel is VERY clean and the spacious. You can see that it has been newly renovated. I'm felt very comfortable in my room. However, you are surrounded with fellow guests who can make your stay uncomfortable. My neighbour […] to the right continued to talk to himself and me (in drunken slurs) anytime I was outside. I think it would be a good idea for the hotel to organize/plan the room better. I was sharing the room with a fellow conference attendee and felt safe enough because I wasn't alone. But as a young female, the quality of other guests would would have made me feel unsafe and there is NO dead bolt on the door. I think the hotel should better organize new guest and guest that have made the hotel their 'home'. The outside of the hotel was not pleasing to the eye, but this did not bother me. Seeing one hotel guest check to see if cars in the parking lot were left open really late at night did-- LOCK YOUR CARS! WARNING: here was NO form of business centre. I needed to print some work and was told that the nearest place to do that was approx. 30mins away. The hotel management said they could print it for me at .25 cents per page plus tax. I was shocked and they decided to forfeit the tax. So I had to pay $5 for 20 pages which I find pretty steep considering every other hotel I have ever been to has this service for FREE. Les mer

The room was clean and updated. There was a large clean fridge. I stayed alone on this trip for work, and felt a little uneasy about the exterior door with only a twist handle lock-no dead bolt/chain locks. Stayed in a newly renovated, nicely appointed room w/ microwave, big fridge, cable tv, free Wi-Fi, quiet A/C, etc. Motel outside could use a paint job, but inside room was great. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Really close to downtown Chatham (with a Timmy's right across the road!). All at a great price. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed may 19 2012 motel still being renovated quite good area if you have a dog lots of room to walk around. One comment I should make is that the doors entering the motel rooms should have been changed at the same time of the room renovation as they do not look sturdy and secure. This was my 2nd time staying in this motel. The first time the room was decent, good enough for the 1 night we stayed. This time we got a renovated room and it was very nice! Overall the motel is clean and comfortable and much better then what we expected for such a low price. We will with out a doubt stay here again.

We found the Saxony Motel to meet our needs for a reasonably-priced getaway. It is on the edge of Chatham, and was easy to get to anywhere in the city. The staff was busy preparing for the new season. They were all helpful, courteous, and pleasant. Fresh towels every day was a surprise. Everything was neat and totally acceptable.

Queen sized beds, microwave and fridge. Very clean. The room was as nice as any Disney Moderate priced hotel we have stayed. Motel staff was very friendly. Needs a more modern tv and outside of motel needs updating.

The motel looks a bit run down on the outside - ie paint peeling however it is in the process of being renovated. Once the rooms are finished with new bathroom fixtures etc. and new flooring it will be a very nice motel. The owner were very helpful and when we had trouble with the new air conditioner they came immediately and had it fixed in no time. […] The location was very convenient for us too.
