The Robert Burns Hotel - Edinburgh

On entry into the hotel you are met by the smell, it smells like an ashtray. And I am sure I will also smell when I leave, even though this is a ‘non-smoking’ hotel! The reception is scruffy with piles of rubbish piled high. The room is small with no chair or deck to work so nowhere to put your PC, you get free WiFi. The tea spoons and drinking glasses […] were dirty. The TV had to be retuned; it only had 2 channels programmed. The tea tasted really strange, I guess it was the UHT milk but it did not taste as it should. Iron burns on a dirty stitched together carpet. Dirty finger marks on the door. There are dressing gowns hanging on the door but I would not wear it, you never know who wore it last. I never saw the onsite parking; there is no car park although there is street parking. Booked breakfast for 08:00, it never came, gave up and left. Hotel amenities - Zero. I wish I had read the reviews before booking I don't know how anybody could give this hotel a good review, it's very poor. I made the mistake of booking in haste, I only booked it because the hotel I where I normally stay (Best western just down the road) was full, that has a real bar, restaurant and gym and is cheaper. If Hotels.com had not taken payment when booking I would not have stayed there, I would have walked away. As for the 3 star rating, who accredits hotels these days? Do yourself a favour, stay clear of this hotel. Les mer

Stayed here with a partner, would definitely recommend it to anyone else! Our room was recently renovated and although the aesthetics aren't too modern, it was comfy and very clean. The en-suite bathroom facilities were great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. With a bus stop right outside that goes straight to the heart of Edinburgh, you can't […] go wrong! Les mer

We were comfortable enough, but the carpeting in our room was in desperate need of replacement, the toilet didn't flush properly, the shower was barely warm enough and we could not get the TV working. The continental breakfast was lacking and there was nobody in the reception area when we were ready to check out in the morning.

Stayed here for 1 night, host was super friendly and very hospitable. Some way out of the city, but the bus drops you off right outside. Place was very reasonably priced and was a comfortable stay

I stayed at this hotel over the New Years holiday because of the good price I found on the Internet. The hotel is easily accessible by the bus system from the airport (airlink 100 to route 26). When I arrived, I was greeted by a huge German Shepherd wandering around in the front yard and was informed that he belonged to a guest, not to the hotel (the […] hotel is pet friendly.). I arrived 4 hours prior to the posted check in time and my room was not ready but the 2 ladies running the hotel allowed me to leave my bags so I could take a walk along the boardwalk. When I returned, the room was ready. I was escorted to a single room to find that the "private" bathroom that had been advertised was not located in the room; it was one floor down. Not a deal breaker but it was not what I had expected. Since there was no lock on the bathroom, it was used by other guests as well. The room smelled like smoke just like the rest of the hotel. There was visible dog hair on the carpet. The bed sheets looked clean, though. Room size was adequate. I did find moldy water (didn't know that was possible) in the hot water maker. Stayed for 3 nights and had breakfast twice. I only ate packaged items (yougurt, granola bar) due to concern for cleanliness of the kitchen. Overall, staff was friendly, it was a place to sleep during the busy New Years holiday, and it was bearable enough for the price. Would not recommend if you have other options, though. Les mer

We visited Edinburgh the weekends before Christmas and stayed at this hotel. The room was spacious but floor, toilet, curtains and blankets were really dirty and little stinky, too. There were a pair of jeans and a jacket left on the chair, probably by previous boarder, which the hotel management didn't remove from the room. We took this hotel only […] because of it's location near to Portobello beach. The worst thing is one of the windows was broken and we suffered the winter night. Moreover, when I booked the hotel the full English/Scottish breakfast was included. But during our check in the attendant told us that it's only continental breakfast included and we would have to top up if we would like full Scottish breakfast. Les mer

The hotel was good. It was clean and the staff was very kind and helpful. The room I had was small, but worked well for my needs. It was economical, which was important. The hotel is within walking distance of a few good restaurants if you don't want to ride the bus or drive down town. The bus stop is right outside the entrance to the hotel so is very […] convenient. The 26 bus takes you downtown to Princess street directly, so if that is your destination, it works well. They had WiFi service for free and a decent continental breakfast. we felt like at home perfect. The ladies were very very kind. More cleanliness in the room and bathrroom. I liked very mache the decoration and the garden.

The hotel is very convenient for getting in to the centre of Edinburgh - the bus stops right outside the front door and 25 minutes later you are on Princes Street. It's about 200 metres to the beach with a lovely promenade and a few shops and restaurants. Staff were extremely accommodating despite us arriving close to midnight, very helpful, friendly and breakfast the morning afterwards was plentiful. Hotel was easy to find and well maintained.

for the price we paid it was more than pleasing, i have read reviews that complained about having to phone to have the door opened and if i'd have arrived at night i would expect that as it is a B&B it is not part of a big chain. we were given keys to let ourselves in if we were out late. the staff couldn't have been friendlier, our room was HUGE it […] felt more like an apartment so we were very comfortable. bathroom newly refurbished and spotless, OK the rooms are a bit tired like genteel poverty but i loved it and will definitely go back Les mer

Un intérieur un peu décevant par rapport à l'extérieur de l'hôtel qui laisse imaginer autre chose, de plus typique... Néanmoins, c'est vivable pour les deux nuits que nous avons passé.

la chambre était très propre mais très veille en déco , elle mériterait tout de meme un bon coup de fraicheur. Par contre le responsable qui parle très bien le Français a été extrèmement sympathique, nous le remercions pour son excellent accueil et son aide pour visiter Edimbourg

Portobello è una zona stupenda, tranquilla, con posti auto nei dintorni se siete in macchina (come noi). L'hotel è tranquillo, pulito, il personale cordialissimo e disponibile, sia all'accoglienza che per la colazione. L'autobus per il centro è proprio all'uscita del cancellino dell'hotel, e se volete farvi una bella scampagnata a piedi in meno di due […] ore sarete nel centro di Edimburgo. La Scottish Breakfast è a pagamento (mi pare di ricordare poco più di 6£), l'alternativa è una colazione continentale con una vasta gamma di cibo (prosciutto, formaggio, marmellate, formaggini, succo, caffé, tè and so on....) Diciamo che ne uscireste in ogni caso con la pancia ben piena! Consigliato assolutamente! (ps, se siete amanti del minimalista new style, e odiate l'ambiente un po' retrò e la moquette forse non è il luogo adatto per voi. Se odiate la moquette direi che l'intera GB non è posto per voi, ma questo è un altro discorso XD) Les mer

Ein wirklich sehr nettes kleines Hotel mit sehr freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Inhabern. Schön wäre, wenn einem überall so viel Freundlichkeit als Tourist entgegengebracht würde. da das Hotel schon sehr alt ist hat man alles so gut wie möglich instand gehalten. 4 Sterne würde ich dem Hotel zwar nicht geben, da die Teppiche zu alt und nicht so ganz in […] Ordnung sind, die Bäder sind halt alt, jedoch würde ich diese außergewöhnliche Freundlichkeit in jedem 4 Sterne haus begrüßen. B&B trés calme. Personnel trés accueillant et disponible faisant oublier l'aspect un peu douteux des chambres!!! Sauf les draps qui sont plus blancs que blancs! La plage est au bout de la rue, et les restos dans les environs proches, accessibles à pied. Petit déj. continental copieux, local payant.

Venlig og hjælpsom ejer. Lidt slidt hotel der trænger til en kærlig hånd, men kan sagtens anbefales alligevel. Tæt på strand.
