Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall

Oppholdet var veldig bra, av ypperst klasse! det eneste jeg ikke var fornøyd med var en feil av personalet når jeg skulle sjekke ut. Ønsket betale cash men de klarte dra kortet. Bortsett fra det, var det topp klasse av personalet og en av de beste dry cleaning service jeg vært borti mot.

A luxurious and large hotel next to one of the canals in the city centre of Hamburg. 5 min walk and you are right next to the "Rathaus" (Town Hall) in the centre of Hamburg. The rooms very nice and clean, with excellent beds and large size of both rooms and bathroom. Breakfast was large and had everthing we needed and lots more. Spa and gym area was superb. All in all an excellent hotel for a weekend trip to Hamburg. For the price we paid there is really no downside that we could see to this hotel.

The hotel itself was very sleek and modern; the lobby especially had a great ambience. The concierge staff was also extremely helpful and well-informed about the region. Breakfast was good quality, but could have had more variety for the amount charged per person. The spa also had a lovely mood, and the steam room and sauna were very relaxing; the only thing missing was a hot tub as the pool was only somewhat warm. However, the rooms themselves were less than impressive. The rooms have absolutely zero personality (not even a single photograph or painting on the wall). We immediately noticed that the room we were given reeked of smoke, so much so that breathing felt a bit stifling. After mentioning it to the front desk, we were given a different room, which was unfortunately a downgrade from the original room. The right bedside table was broken, dangerously tilted and barely hanging onto the wall. The mattress topper on the bed was unbelievably lumpy, especially on the top, where it poofed up directly (and uncomfortably) underneath the pillows. To make matters worse, the bedsheets had multiple stains and should never have passed housekeeping inspection. At that point, it was late, and we were too tired to switch rooms yet again. Overall, the hotel's outside look and feel doesn't match its room, which were underwhelming and disappointing.

The check in was awful as they kept us waiting for room whilst others arriving after us were given rooms. They were busy and could not cope. Had to wait 20 mins at breakfast for a table. The hotel rooms are small but clean and good condition. Location is convenient and quiet.
