Hotel Excelsior

Good location. Comfortable bed. Breakfast could be better. Poor choice on tv channels and few things needed fixing in the room

Bathroom was very small. Shower stall doors were difficult to close. There was no soap dish in the shower. Bathroom door couldn't be fully opened because the night stand was in the way.

Near Sol station. So, very con enient for getting around. If you can make it through the crowds of tourists just outside its doors! It was decorated simply but tastefully and was very clean. The desk staff were basically neither warm nor helpful, sad to say. Finding breakfast was difficult. The room size was adequate as was the bed. I'd use them again.

This hotel is perfect for a city break - it is just over a mile and an easy walk to the Praca do Comércio (although it is all uphill on the way back!) and less than a mile to Rossio Square. Taxis are not expensive to save that walk back. Do venture off the main streets onto the side streets like the Rua da Portas da Santo Antao - there are lots and lots of little restaurants along the quieter parts - less touristy and without staff accosting and exhorting you to use their restaurant (& in one instance swearing violently at us when we politely declined). For a 3 star hotel it was a pleasant surprise - quiet, clean and comfortable (the pillows in particular were excellent - usually an area hotels get wrong). The only thing I would have liked to have seen was tea making facilities. The fridge in our room was too efficient for wintertime - freezing the beer, but probably perfect in the summer. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming - the desk is staffed 24 hours so our very late arrival and very early departure didn’t faze them at all. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Good hotel, good location, friendly staff and reasonably priced. What's not to like?
