Horrible hotel.....scammers
I am an Indian citizen who travelled with my wife (Norwegian citizen) and 2 children (Norwegian citizens) to Kochi, Kerala recently. We were initially staying at a hotel in Thiruvalla (Club 7) which while booking us into the hotel asked only for the front pages of our passports for police verification purposes. We were in Kochi to attend a ceremony at my brothers house and wanted to stay one night in Kochi. We booked The Dunes Hotel from Hotels.com and when we went to check into the hotel, the person at the front desk would not let us check in because he wanted not just the front pages of our passport but also entry stamping on our passports. We did not have the original passports with us but had copies of the passport which I was glad to email them to the hotel immediately. He informed us that this was a special instruction by the police. I booked a room immediately with Vivanta by Taj - Malabar, Cochin and asked them if they needed the same documents. They informed us that, all they needed was the front pages of the passport and there was no rules by the police regarding taking copies of entry stamping from passports of foreign nationals. We send the copies to them and got to stay there that night. The management did not provide us with any written document from the police when asked. I called the Kochi police and they have said that it is not mandatory for hotels to take the entry stamp but copied of the passport are compulsory. This hotel is just scamming people.
