Could have been a great stay…. But….
When I went looking at all the places to stay in the Black Hills we had wanted a property that had a restaurant onsite. This one does, with outdoor seating and beautiful views. PERFECT, I thought. Until I get there to check in and find out the restaurant is not open yet. I looked all over on Hotels.com and it does not say the restaurant is closed or even saying it is seasonal. So we had to load up and drive into town when we really had just wanted to stay on property for our stay. When I voiced my concerns the hostess just shrugged her shoulders and started naming pizza places in Keystone to try. If I had known the restaurant was not open I would have stayed at a different lodge. Yes they did have a continental breakfast that was average.
The location is beautiful. I wish they had a little more walking trails around to soak it up.
Parking out front of the main lobby is a bit sparse. We had to park at the top and walking down the driveway I did slip and fall. Luckily I have a fat butt so it was more of an inconvenience wiping the snow off myself. It was about 10:00 pm at night and the front doors would not open so we had to sneak off to the side and use that door. I was surprised that while it was snowing the front doors would not work.
They did have a fire pit area right by the restaurant that was going every night. That would have been great to sit by with a snack and a drink from the restaurant. Anyhow would I stay there again? Yes, but only if the restaurant is open.
