Was refused access
Hotel rooms are too small for suitcases. Staff members are generally great, but we had a serious problem: We had to sleep one night in another hotel, at a premium rate, because my girlfriend was not allowed into the Visual Praia Hotel. Rude receptionist. I had paid for a deluxe room for up to 4 people, but the receptionist was not willing to negotiate or to resolve the problem, and we were left on the street at night, having to call a taxi and find another hotel. Another receptionist the next day fixed the problem, but we had to pay an extra 99 BRL per night. Hotels.com Gold member service refunded this, and refunded the night we could not get into the room. For a tiny, dark room at the bottom of a staircase it is way overpriced. Arriving directly from holidays in Europe where inexpensive, hyper clean design hotels are the norm, getting a reminder of the low quality/value ratio of many Brazilian hotels was simply depressing. Also to see how Brazilians treat other Brazilians has no place in the hospitality industry. My girlfriend is never badly treated in Europe, but in her home country she is suspicious because she is with a Brazilian resident of European origin. Not cool, guys. Not cool.
