The hotel is hard to access because the medieval town of Vezelay sits in a hill with one road through it up to the Basilica. Another one way street leads down. The host needs to get the road barrier in front of the hotel to lift and give you directions a few blocks away to a dirt parking lot that you pay for.
You can drop your luggage first.
The hotel is lovely, a 1700’s building, with a man historic 200 year old wisteria (glycine) tree in front. The staff is lovely, helpful and they speak English. Not sure if all rooms are like ours (small hotel) but the wood beams across the ceiling prevented my 6’3” husband from standing up in half the room. The room was small but adequate for our two night stay. Excellent restaurant across the road in front of the basilica where we ate both nights; host offered to make res.
On Sunday/Monday not much
is open, but a small grocery shop and boulangerie were nice.
Quiet and calm hotel, village.
