I stayed two nights at Barcelo Santiago in April 2013, and was overall very happy with my stay and the hotel.
I got a rather large room on the eighth floor, with excellent views from the terrace to Los Gigantes. It was spotlessly clean, and the room seemed modern and quite fancy for a resort hotel. However, the minibar was about 15 degrees – but according to the technician “in perfect order”.
The pool area was very nice (and like everything else, clean and inviting).
The breakfast was great. It was both plentiful and seemed to have high quality.
I debated giving the hotel 4-stars here because of some small hick-ups, but compared to other hotels in Tenerife, Santiago Barcelo really is great. But I’ll mentioned the things that kept this stay from being perfect. You have to pay to get Internet access in your room. Well, that I can live with – but I have never experienced that they do not offer unlimited use of Internet in the Reception area (only 30 minutes, and painfully slow). Some of the receptionists were very welcoming and helpful, while others were downright unpleasant and seemed to think that the guests were there only to bother them. Unfortunately, the bar “Road 66” right across the street, had live (and extremely loud) entertainment until midnight. It might not have bothered me so much if the guy could sing – but I swear, his version of “Skyfall” will haunt me. I highly recommend asking for a room facing the pool area instead.
