Grand Port Royal Hotel is not as grand as its name. With it's beautiful location and the fantastic view from the dockside bar, it could be a great place. Unfortunately, the hotel does not live up to expectations. The room was not ready at the stipulated check in time. The room has a fancy TV and plenty of chanels, but no fridge. There was shampoo and shower gel, but no hand soap. The balcony had a lovely view, but cheap plastic chairs and no table. We kept finding ants in our room. The breakfast was simply pitiful, with little choice and overcooked vegetables. Dinner at the restaurant was OK, but you are much better off eating at the famous Gloria's five minutes from the hotel, perhaps Jamaica's best fish restaurant. You can see the docile fishing village of Port Royal in about an hour, and it's quite a drive from Port Royal into Kingston, so the place is perhaps better suited for a day trip than a longer stay. A very professional and helpful receptionist did her best to improve our impression of the hotel, but it's hard to give this place a good rating.
