The family stayed here for two periods in December 2015. We had booked the family suite, superior with kitchenette on both occasions. Both bookings featured two clean connected large bedrooms, one with a big double bed and the other with two single beds - all of them comfortable. Very spacious, more like a flat, with a "living room" area in the master bedroom, a small kitchen area and a bathroom which wasn't cramped either.
Out first room had a washing machine and as we were travelling for 5+ weeks we planned to do some clothes washing during our second stay at Grand U. Sadly, on our second stay we didn't have a washing machine. When we them about this and asked for options, they offered to wash our clothes for free. This is the only hotel in the world that we have experienced a gesture like this.
As we had a list of restaurant that we wanted to check out in Yangoon, we didn't eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. However, the breakfast was very good and in line with more expensive hotels in Myanmar.
The hotel/bar café is OK for a snack and makes a quite good cup of coffee. The hotel and/or the café could have benefited from a larger selection of snacks, as there are no marts in the immediate surroundings. We didn't find one at least and we also asked the reception.
You have to plan taxi rides, because the hotel is slightly isolated. Everything else, including the price level, makes up for that though - and then some.
