Great service
I was planning on camping a couple of nights near Keswick, weather not looking good for a late arrival so decided to stay at Derwentwater Hotel... so glad I did! - At check in I was greeted in a really professional manner, in the bar the staff were super friendly! That was my opening night. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic, set me up fuel wise for my planned ascent of Skiddaw (walking past a farm I camped at 47 years ago on my first Scout Camp!!) My hike up Skiddaw, descending to Keswick and then back to hotel was great (nothing to do with hotel of course) BUT on return all staff I spoke to were interested in my day, to the extent that I was chatting to the hotel manager for over an hour!!!! This level of customer service and interest is rare and is really valued by me! Thank you to all at the Derwentwater Hotel for making my stay so enjoyable. If you want a pristine, brand new hotel - well, pay the price for it - but if you want great service, an amazing breakfast and the perfect location head to Portinscale!!

Comfortable stay, go for the dinner package!
We stayed 2 nights at the Derwentwater Hotel. It’s a bit of a quaint traditional English hotel. They seem to have a new and more modern wing and the original bits as we had 2 rooms and one looked a lot newer than the other. We would highly recommend getting the package with dinner as you get a 3-course dinner, which is great value and not to mention delicious. Breakfast is a full buffet spread which was great too! Sheets were clean and good water pressure for the shower. There’s also a nice little bar, and some board/card games in the conservatory. Parking at the back of the hotel is £5 per night though.

Needs work, a lot of work.
Disappointing. Unfortunately this hotel really does need a lot of work to be anywhere near as nice as other places we’ve stayed in Keswick. The saving grace of this hotel is the staff members as they were all polite and friendly. Cleanliness is a big issue, black mould next to the wardrobe, crumbs in the drawers, plates and glasses in the corridors. We booked this hotel from a point of it being a good location, walking distance to Keswick but other than that there really isn’t any other reason to stay here. It needs a lot of work, the sink in the bathroom had a huge crack in it, the bath panel had holes in it. We’re just lucky we were only staying for one night. The curtains weren’t long enough to cover the windows. We did all see the humour in it as we were on a trip with our friends but if you’re looking for something comfortable and relaxing I wouldn’t recommend it.

Very DIRTY, unpleasant, tired, old Hotel. Staff was kind and pleasant. So terribly disappointed in the condition of this hotel. Rooms were very dirty, dumpy, not well appointed and in dire need of repairs, paint, and attention. The only reason I did not give one star is because the hotel staff (Howard, Sue, and Paul) were delightful and gave wonderful custom service. The staff is doing the best they can with what they had to work with. Our bed was so uncomfortable and the sheets looked dirty. Housekeeping never changed our sheets, nor gave us toilet paper or towels. Just gross. We can say, the hotel courtyard garden is beautiful, but everything else wasn’t good. Breakfast and cleanliness in dining area was even questionable. We got free breakfast cause the hotel had “boiler issues”, but I don’t recommend the breakfast either. It has parking which is hard to come by in Lake District I’ve been told, but parking is not worth staying at an old dirty hotel. Sadly, its past its prime.

Disappointing
We booked a superior room and they gave us a classic (downgrade) we were too tired to make a fuss the night we arrived. Complained in the morning to be fair they refunded us the difference. The man on reception was a brilliant lovely man polite and helpful. The lady who was looking after breakfast did an amazing job in difficult circumstances. Some of the breakfast was missing as theyd been locked out of the store cupboard. It wasnt a particularly nice breakfast. The hotel was very run down. Which was a shame as lovely building lovely gardens. The grout in the bathroom was black round the taps were slimy. Carpets werent nice. Walls were plastered in places and not painted. The doors were chipped. Not good. I understand that covid knocked the hotel trade but the hotel was nothing like advertised. Felt sorry for the staff who were great

We cancelled our reservation upon arrival. The furniture is old and filthy. The bed was broken. The room felt cold and institutional. Property is old and not very well kept. Photos are very misleading.

Though we came pretty late to the property, we had staff to take care of our check in etc. And also morning breakfast was very good, and the staff were very nice and friendly. Overnight my friend had to work in lobby area for his work, and staff made sure that he was comfortable there.

Nice gardens and communal areas (bar, reception hall etc) were fine but my room was very dated and on a slant. The shower was difficult to work and made a very loud noise when on. Everything creeks and wallpaper peeling, hole in ceiling, most of the tv channels didn’t work. However, bed and towels were clean and I had a good stay for a no frills accommodation. Could be a beautiful hotel with some investment.

Location was ideal and grounds were lovely with good views from the garden, however the building was very dated and poorly maintained. The interior was old and in need of decoration. My room was just about adequate but once again needs updating and decorating. The bathroom needs modernising, floor tiles were cracked, tiling around the toilet was cracking. Mattress was poor and not very comfortable. The door furniture needs updating. Generally the room and the parts of the hotel I viewed looked unmaintained. The staff on duty were ok.

When we arrived we were taken to the apartments over the road although we had booked a room within the hotel. We found this apartment to be shabby and well in need of a refurbish.there was a hole in the bathroom door both settee/sofa beds appeared very dirty no tea coffee milk etc although there was a kitchen area and this was an upgrade we were told. When we complained staff were helpful in finding a room within the hotel which was also in need of a refurbishment

You cancelled my booking less than 48 hours before arrival because of a water issue. Despite that, I continued to receive emails regarding my stay, asking if I wanted to upgrade my stay, check in experience and now this… I was unable to find alternative accommodation in the Keswick area at such short notice and continuing to receive emails from yourselves (presumably automated and not checked?) were not helpful. I suggest you modify your automated reply system.
