This was probably a 5star hotel 40 years ago, but is for sure not any more. My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights over a weekend in Sept. together with friends. We got room #64 and were shocked by the smell that met us when opening the door - you know, that mixed smell of strong chemicals and old dirty wallToWall carpets that should have been pulled out at least 20 years ago.
I told them that my wife could not stay at that room due to the combo of dirty/old/carpets/chemicals and her allergy problems. The girl at the front desk said that unfortunately they were fully booked for the night, but maybe something would show up later. It didn't.
We tried to open the window to get fresh air, but there was way too much noise from the street all night, so -- we had to sleep in the chemicals. Also, the tiles at the bathroom floor were all loose. Basically it seems like our room was in the middle of a renovation. So, we paid the full price of a 5-star room and were put into a room that were under renovation.
Got a new room (old 3star quality) for the 2nd night, also an old outdated room with old dirty carpets, but way less smell of cleaning chemicals. My wife got sick from the night before, and we had to leave her at the room for the evening while the rest of us went to a scheduled Jazz event.
Breakfast was plain and boring, type of 3star.
I complained on 1st room at check-out and 3 times by email before I was answered that "you did not tell front desk about allergy problems".
