I see a lot of complaining in other reviews - but after having stayed there 20 days for business, here are my thoughts; For this price, this is naturally not a five-star brand new hotel. If that´s what you seek, stop complaining, pay 10 times more, and stay at Kempinski. But The Magnificent International is a very decent hotel that does the job. Staff speaks enough English, room is clean and nice, although a bit outdated, wifi is good for China (separate router in each room), breakfast good and offers both Western and traditional Chinese style food. And most importantly, the neighbourhood is ideal, with walking distance to everything: People´s Square, the Old Town, the Bund, etc. A real gem of a food-street can be found just one minute walk away from the hotel. Make sure to also explore the animal market just down the road.
In short, if you seek a brand new, state-of-the-art luxurious hotel, this is not it. But if you seek an affordable, clean and good hotel close to everything worth seeing, this hotel can safely be recommended!
