Disappointed... it could have been great!
We, two couples, arrived at this hotel to stay three nights before doing the Inca Trail, and had booked 2 nights after. To allow ourselves some luxury, we upgraded the standard rooms to superior rooms for the 2 last nights.
When we came back late in the evening after the Inca Trail, the rooms we were offered were to our dismay the exact same type as the ones we had had earlier. Our friends, however, were given a much smaller room! When asking the receptionists about this, the female receptionist explained that this was because we had had problems with cold showers with our prior stay...!
None of the receptionists were very eager to fix the problem, but told us they could set us up with a new room the next day. Only when threatening to have our money back, were our friends put in a bigger room. This was apparently the Inca Suite, the nicest type of room they offer. Good.
We also found at then that for our first 3 nights, we had - without being told - been given Superior Rooms instead of Standard Rooms. Our disappointment come from not being informed, as we were expecting better rooms for our last 2 nights.
Basically, service at the hotel is lousy. Our stay could have been so much more positive if the staff was friendlier. We could not help feel we were in the way somehow, or had done something wrong. When complaining about cold showers, or a bathroom light that was constantly flashing or even about the mix-up of rooms, we were only met with a less-than-postive attitude. The night porter was more friendly, but seemed to lack the authority to get things fixed, and had to call his boss for confirmation. Too bad.
Breakfast is good, though! But do yourself a favour and find a different hotel in this price range.
