My partner and I booked 5 nights at Sandyport--the hotel had good reviews and looked like it was off the beaten path and not right in the middle of where all the cruise ships dock. The location is great for this, and we liked the property a lot--very quiet and low key.
Unfortunately, we had a bunch of problems with our room--the internet was inconsistent and didn't work at all the first night. The toilet was broken (would constantly run, was difficult to flush, and clogged easily--and was dirty), the bathroom was run down (cabinet doors were broken, grout and drain were rusted), the coffee machine was the wrong size for the coffee provided (and no instructions were given), maid service was only offered 2x per week, and the sheets were worn and pilled.
The thing that pushed us over the edge was that ran into the guest in the room upstairs, who told us that he was originally put in our room but, after having the same problems and complaining, was moved to a different room. It made the whole thing feel like a scam--they knew the toilet was broken and put us in there anyway.
We switched hotels and had a stressful (but ultimately successful) time getting a refund from Sandyport/Expedia. Expedia lists Sandyport as a 4-star hotel, and it's definitely not that--it has a nice pool, beach access, and is in a quiet area, but the rooms are run down and the resort doesn't have the basic amenities you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express.
