6/10 – Bra

Comfortable, faded 80s elegance, poor food quality
This is a very decent hotel, but I suspect the 5* are allocated (and kept) based on the range of services offered and not necessarily the style or quality. The hotel itself starts to show a faded elegance, which you would expect within the 5* hotel category, after probably being top of its game when opening in the 1980s. It is certainly comfortable, voluminous and offers a grand and impressive lobby. The room are clean and quite spacious, but as mentioned, bathrooms are clearly 1990s style at their best and also rather small. The room service food I had was VERY disappointing. When you stay at a 5*, or 4* hotel for that matter, you expect the food quality to be similar to a restaurant at the higher end of the scale. The meat I had tasted heated up frozen portioned food and absolutely no taste or seasoning, and the pizza suffered the same issues and also very gooey. If I had received this food even at a normal university canteen I would have been quite disappointed, so let's us see how serious management at this hotel is about their guests' concerns - will they actually check and compare their food with "lesser" restaurants. I had a much better, crispier oven-baked pizza in a normal pub in South-Perth (Windsor Hotel, pub entrance from Mends Street) and a MUCH better, proper Asian tasting Beef Rendang at the Old Shanghai food-court and steak sandwich in a sports-pub(!) in Brass Monkey in William Street - both in Northbridge. And they are charging much less!
