An alright hostel to spend some budget nigths at
FIRST. Guidecca Haven Hostel is an alright hostel. 24H reception service, staff fluent in English, rooms are OK.
BUT - when I first opened the door to my room I first saw a small pile of long hairs in the middle of the floor of the main room - and when I went into the bathroom I was met with hardened toothpaste on the floor and the toilet bowl was decorated with long skid marks. Not a good first impression and for me it seemed like the cleaners just had removed the garbage and folded new sheets on the bed from the last visitor.
Also there's just two sheets and a blanket (which was not fresh and clean either so I tried having it away from my face when sleeping). And no towels. The A/C didn't work and that was a problem because the temperature was fairly high (25 degrees celsius) when I visited and in absence of a functioning A/C I had to open a window and let the hungry Venice mosquitos fly in. I am not joking when I say that I actually have 63 mosquito bites from a week in Venice (and I wore covering clothes except from when sleeping). And I'm glad I'm a heavy sleeper, because I could literally hear every single thing the people around me did and said. For you other guests probably hearing my snoring: I deeply apologize.
