The tsunami claimed the lives of many people. What made the difference between life and death was quick decision-making and immediate evacuation.

The only building left standing in the area where an entire town was destroyed is now open to the public free of charge as a memorial site. Instead of watching news footage, you can actually see the damage in vivid, real-life detail.
