At the heart of Hsinchu’s nightlife are the night markets, and especially the Chenghuang Temple Night Market. It’s a great place to find low-cost Taiwanese snacks and a few bargains on souvenirs. Be sure to have a chat with the stallholders, some of whom have been selling the same tasty treats for decades.
The market makes a good warm-up for an evening of enjoying the city’s pub scene. You won’t find the high-energy nightclubs and high-end cocktail lounges you get in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Instead, expect to find easy-going lounges, often with a retro style and music selection. If your idea of a fun night out is a few casual drinks and a chat with your friends, the nightlife in Hsinchu is ideal for you.
