Basically we had a good stay and experience at the hotel.
Speaking of the room/hotel first: The room was good and clean, a family room with a double bed and a single bed. The only very minor minus was that the room was a corner room where the bathroom had a L-shaped outer wall covered with windows. A great view that we never used as we always had the curtain drawn for privacy reasons as the neighboring building had a view straight into the bathroom. The sink was facing the windows with the mirror behind your back, a bit to the right. This setup made shaving a bit awkward. The bathtub was OK but a shower might have been a better option as the bathroom was narrow. This is just specific to our room. Again, this was a minor downside to an otherwise good stay.
When it comes to the hotel's location it was about 10-12 minutes from Dam Square by taxi practically.
However, If you use google maps it will say about 25-ish minutes depending on traffic and time of day. But the trick is to take a taxi a couple of minutes from Dam Square asnd walk the last few meters. We took the Uber to Paleisstraat 105 which is the next block away from Dam Square. From there there was a 2 min walk to Dam Square.
The reason for this is the layout of Amsterdam with lots of bridges and one-way streets.
