Stay away from this hotel!
A few days after arriving at the hotel I got very sick, with strong stomach pains, diarrhea and fever. I was transported to the hospital in an ambulance, where I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection most likely stemming from food or water. In the end, my son also got infected and ended up in hospital. None of us were outside the hotel during our stay or drinking/brushing teeth in tap water. Hence, the source of contamination has to come from the food or drink served at the restaurants or bars at the hotel. We also heard of other similar cases among the guests at the hotel.
We have reported the incident to the hotel management at Royalton Punta Cana several times. The management first tried to explain away the situation, saying that I perhaps had been eating too much, etc. After the laboratory results from the hospital were sent to the hotel, the management said that every person is different when it comes to bacteria resistance, that it takes more than one infected person to make a case out of the situation, etc., etc.
We paid a lot of money for this holiday, which is completely wasted. The only form of compensation we have been offered from the hotel management is some extra days of free stay. Never again at this hotel! The hotel even made us pay the $9.98 bill outstanding for two movie rentals. The case will be reported to the Dominican Health Authorities and Tourist Board, along with the relevant documentation.
