I recently stayed at Truss NYC, which promotes itself as a boutique hotel—but from the moment I walked in, the experience was far from boutique. The lobby was anything but inviting, with a cheap plastic leaf wall and a check-in desk that was basically plywood painted black. It felt thrown together and uninspired, setting the tone for the rest of my stay.
My room was in clear need of repair, with the bathroom especially in desperate need of attention. There was also a disturbing stain on the curtains that made me not even want to get close enough to take a photo. Overall, the decor felt like a few trendy Scandinavian-inspired pieces were added in an attempt to pass off the space as upscale, but the reality was nowhere near the price point I paid.
The only redeeming factor was the staff. Everyone I interacted with was polite, professional, and helpful. But nice staff can’t make up for a property that feels like it’s pretending to be something it’s not. Considering the premium rate, I left highly disappointed and will not be booking here again.
