Peristyle Square (known locally as Peristil) is the central square in the Old Town of Split. It’s found in the Diocletian Palace, with the faux Roman architecture lining the square.

A popular place for taking photos is under the white marble columns that line the square. Try to get here in the early morning as the whole area becomes very busy as the day wears on.

The vestibule is a grand old room with a towering open dome above it, which was the formal entrance to the living quarters in Diocletian’s Palace. The sunlight plays with this architectural feature as it moves along the stone walls throughout the day with a bright patch of blue sky overhead.

For a cool IG story, make use of the fabulous acoustics by singing a song and enjoying the reverb.

With the ocean breezes billowing and a catamaran cutting its way through the Adriatic, a photo aboard a boat heading out of the Split harbour is a classic summer picture.

An island-hopping boat trip is one of the most fun things to do in Split, thanks to the amount of amazing sandy coves and fantastic coastline found just a few miles out from Split. You can find many companies offering a range of boat trips along the promenade.

One of the best things to do in Split, especially on first visits, is paying a visit to the famous Pjaca Square, home to the Town Hall. Here, you can admire the stunning architecture from the Venetian era. The Old Town has many cute restaurants and cafes where you can unwind with a drink or 2.

If you want to mingle with the locals, head for the Fish Market – it occupies a Secession-style building, which makes for impressive photos.
