Brittany

What you need to know before you go

Brittany lies in the northwest of France, with a rugged coastline bordering the English Channel to the north, and the Celtic Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The region is one of the more popular seaside holiday destinations in France – it has more than 2,860 km of coastline, as well as 800 islands and islets. You can find a variety of coastal towns and villages in the region, from the medieval half-timbered houses of Rennes to the imposing walled city of St Malo.

Away from the shore, Brittany boasts a hilly landscape with several ancient woodlands, including the famous Arthurian Broceliande Forest. There’s also a strong Celtic heritage in Brittany, which you can experience through folk music, Celtic festivals, and prehistoric landmarks across the French region.
