St Albans

What you need to know before you go

St. Albans is a city north of London that is marked by its centuries-old cathedral with wall paintings from the medieval period, plus its parks, museums and ancient ruins. Verulamium Park offers the remains of the ancient Roman wall that once surrounded the city, as well as ornamental lakes and rolling fields. The Verulamium Museum displays artefacts from the Roman history of the region, including the famed Sandridge Hoard and ancient mosaics. Nearby, visitors can explore the Roman Theatre of Verulamium, an archaeological site dating to the 2nd century CE.

Family fun at the Willows Activity Farm gives kids the opportunity to see a working farm park with a petting zoo and falconry exhibits. The Clock Tower medieval belfry offers a viewing platform, while Heartwood Forest offers a planned woodland crisscrossed with hiking trails. The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban is an architectural dream including Norman, Romanesque, Gothic and Victorian elements. At the de Havilland Aircraft Museum, aircraft from the entire history of the company are on display and visitors can walk right up to them.
