Falmouth

What you need to know before you go

Falmouth is a port town on Cornwall’s east coast that’s famed for its natural harbour and scenic beaches as well as museums, galleries, historic sites and natural gardens. Falmouth Harbour offers a marina with recreational docks, a boat park and plenty of scenic ocean views, and you can also take a cruise to get out on the waters. The region is home to several historic castles, including the waterfront fortress of St Mawes Castle and Henry VIII’s Pendennis Castle. Art connoisseurs will enjoy the exhibition spaces at Falmouth Art Gallery, which also offers a shop and library. The town is also home to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

If you’re looking to get away from it all and get back to nature, Falmouth offers Glendurgan Garden and Trelissick Garden, both maintained by the National Trust. Enys Gardens offers not only green space but an art gallery and cafe with cream teas. At Trebah Garden, you’ll get to walk subtropical tended gardens and enjoy a secluded beach. Other recreational beaches include Maenporth Beach, Towan Beach, Castle Beach and Swanpool Beach. Each offers its own amenities and entertainment opportunities.
